Blueblur Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 After supporting Chelsea for 14 years, i have never once gone to see them play. I'm going to the Chelsea V Stoke game this Saturday, i was just wondering if anyone can give me any tips/ dos and donts for my trip to the Bridge? I will be sitting in the West stand lower. Hoping for another 6-0 win!
c3blu Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Do start or join in with as many songs as you can. Dont sit there quietly. Other than that, do enjoy yourself.....come on you blues.
Blueblur Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 Thanks c3blu. Should i get drunk before-hand? It will get me more into the singing mood.
Zola Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Do get there early, have a few pints from the Heineken girls running around with back packs. Do buy a programme, its your first visit! Do visit the megastore after and buy some merch. Do shout and sing If a steward tells you to sit down during the match (dont ask), bite your tongue and do it. Have a great day :)
Blueblur Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 I like the sound of these Heineken girls, i'll definitely get on to that! Cheers for the advice Zola. I'll try not to start a fight with the Stewards
fester Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Do start or join in with as many songs as you can. Dont sit there quietly. Other than that, do enjoy yourself.....come on you blues. I thought you weren't allowed to sing if you're in the West Stand Lower . Not like the old benches!
Blueblur Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 I thought you weren't allowed to sing if you're in the West Stand Lower . Is the West stand lower actually a good place to sit? I considered the West upper but then decided i wanted to be closer to the pitch, so changed my mind.
Zola Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Where are you sitting? I like the Shed end obviously, but the Matthew Harding is also very good.
Blueblur Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 Where are you sitting?I like the Shed end obviously, but the Matthew Harding is also very good. I'm sitting West Stand Lower, row 36 can't remember the seat number, but its in the 40s or 50s i think.
c3blu Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I was going to say do stand, do smoke, do get extremely drunk, do swear and do chuck celery and most important do stand your ground. Dont run. But then i remembered its not 1985. I would'nt do any off the above these days, have a good few beers to get you more in the mood by all means but in general i'd stick by my first post.
fester Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I'm sitting West Stand Lower, row 36 can't remember the seat number, but its in the 40s or 50s i think. You'll have a good view, close to the action. I prefer the Shed or MH Upper myself (and I have sat just about everywhere at the Bridge - avoid the East Upper if you have any concerns about heights!), I like being higher up as you can take in the whole pitch and get to appreciate the movement better. The only time I remember being in the West Lower was when we beat ManUre 5-0, what a day that was!!
Zola Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 What do you think about the Matthew Harding Lower? I've got tickets there but never sat in it before. I'm in row G seats 300

Well i'm glad i will be getting a good view, that was all i was worried about really, thanks fester.
ethicalstrategy Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 West Lower is fine. It's not as noisy as the MH end but much better than the East stand and the West Upper. Make sure you get in to the ground a bit early, otherwise you run the risk of being caught in the rush as everyone exits the pubs at 2.59 and tries to get in for 3. If that happens you'll miss the first 15 mins as the turnstile system is pants.
CHD Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Don't persistently stand and do as the stewards say. They are c**ts and will kick you out. They have a ''shhhhh let the players concentrate'' attitude. Gimps.
Blueblur Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 Don't take the bus to get to the ground. There is no way i'm taking the bus, i'm gonna walk from West Brompton tube station. Looks like i need to be at the ground for around 2.45 then, i don't want to clash with the fans leaving the pubs.
Threepw00d Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 take a stadium tour (one day before or after).
Blueblur Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 take a stadium tour (one day before or after). How much are they?

I'd aim to get there for between 2:15 and 2:30 then you'll get in to see the warms ups and take in your surroundings. There are bars in the stands, so you don't have to miss out on beer - just good beer!

Looks like i need to be at the ground for around 2.45 then, i don't want to clash with the fans leaving the pubs. 2.45 is too late - the 'new' entry system is crap - you can easily wait 30mins to get into the WS Which fans leaving the pubs are you worried about!? In either case don't worry Sounds like you are at the Shed end of the WS - singing tends to spill over from the Shed there - better than being in the middle of the WS If I were you I would buy beer before you get there - the sh*te lager they sell is overpriced weak piss - if you are legless when you get to the ground you wont get in If you have any trouble just say your name is Gordon from the Shed End
coco Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Go mental when we score, when I say mental, I mean jump up and down untill you end up about 2 rows away from your seat hugging a complete total stranger. If we score 6 goals you'll have 6 attempts to find a nice bird to hug, but watch out, you may have to hug the boyfriend as well.

Don't get caught in a rush from the pubs. If your in early you can watch the players warm up, and take it all in. (I'm 36 years old and just seeing the green of the pitch is still special evertime I go to the bridge!) keep an eye on you fav player or the shooting practice, their so much better than on the TV, and join in a few pre-match songs!!! Make sure your in the ground for when they enter the pitch, you'll be able to chant ''Champions, Champions, Champions '' along with the rest of us!!! - THAT IS A MUST! The beer in ground in Singha, (MH upper anyway) if you've ever drunk Nat's piss from a plastic cup you'll get the idea. Singha should only be enjoyed from a glass washing down a curry - fact! Oh and if the MH Lower OR Shed request a song from the West-stand, make sure you're the 1st one standing, arms apart shouting 'CAREFREE WHEREVER YOU MAYBE.........' Strip stark-bollock naked and run onto the pitch at half-time weaving in and out of stewards an policemen - not really sound advise but we'll be able to see what you look like an I'd find it rather amusing. scroll down *The last line was a joke BTW!* Enjoy watching the game
Tea Bar Boy Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Don't get off the tube at Seven Sisters and ask where Stamford Bridge is ...... Don't buy a big f*ckin hat from the club shop ...... Other than that enjoy your day !!
