Back then I'd say that Clapham and Stockwell were majority Chelsea supporting as much as places like Battersea and Wandsworth, and it pretty much stretched all the way out to the sticks where London meets Surrey where I grew up. Strange really, as Palace were closer by a short distance, maybe it's a SW as opposed to SE London thing. I’m working in Clapham at the moment. Like pretty much all of London the demographics have changed massively since the 80s; not too much white working class remaining. Agree it would have been a Chelsea manor, though not too easy to get to the Bridge unless there’s a sneaky bus route I’m unaware of. I see they’ve been running repeats of 70s drama Fox, set in Clapham, starring the bloke who played Harry Grout on Porridge and a young Ray Winstone. Edit: Streatham up the road was mostly Chelsea with pockets of Palace- very easy to get the rattler to Selhurst from there. Edited June 3, 20206 yr by Ewell CFC

Number 45, from Clapham Common station to the south side of Albert Bridge, 15 minute walk from there.

Really nice place too and probably worth a fortune today. They moved away when my uncle retired and they moved out to Norfolk of all places.

June 5, 20206 yr 'Reg Saves' 1'st October 1960: Chelsea goalkeeper, Reg Matthews, saving a penalty taken by the Everton player, J Collins'. (Photo by William Vanderson/Fox Photos/Getty Images) Original photo caption. However, the roof at the very front of the small stand ine the background of this picture, looks very unsafe ! That's what caught my eye. Incidentally the game fiinished as a 3-3draw. So the crowd of 31,457 got their money's worth that day. Edited June 5, 20206 yr by erskblue
