February 24, 201214 yr Author > Verona skins young & old in an English bar I bet I know the pub you mean in Rimini. It would be the Rose and Crown, with Ian, the Charlton barman who has worked there for 30 years. I live in Rimini two-three months a year looking after cyclists. (I work as a Cycling guide out of a Rimimi hotel). http://www.roseandcrown.it/ The pub was tear-gased during World Cup 90. Here. Note that Colin Moynihan the (4th Baron Moynihan PC) was Sports Minister at the time and he had chartered a plane for 246 people three days before the trouble in Rimini. The Italian police nicked 246 people, how fitting! Moynihan was full of hatred for football and the working classes. He was a PR disaster. Yep thats the pub mate, we were there so often we had a few lock in's thanks to the bar staff we got to know.

February 24, 201214 yr > Yep thats the pub mate, we were there so often we had a few lock in's thanks to the bar staff we got to know. Already a Chelsea vintage pub for me. I saw the 8-0 home victory when we won the league there in the pub and also the cup final win the same year. Pam still works there, blond Londoner, she's been there donkey's years, Ian's just finished his 30 year stint there.

Great stuff, i cant remember anyones names as it was a long time ago now & we always ended up smashed in there lol, we've still got two pint glasses that were given to us on our last night there, we're hoping to take our kids back there one day, lovely place Rimini.
February 25, 201214 yr Bolton away 1977 2-2 draw report from manchester evening paper,Went with my dad to this and a couple of his friends and as chelsea took the bolton end,all the chelsea at the other end charged across the pitch to join them with bolton fans coming the other way.Can remember finding my mate asleep on a railway bridge after doing a bottle of whiskey and carried him into ground where he slept on the terrace the entire game, and a police horse standing on my dads foot and him nearly getting nicked after having a go at the copper, and being gutted that i coundnt charge across the pitch with the rest of the chelsea as i was with my dad . February 25, 201214 yr 1968-69 IMO the best post so far. What a fantastic match on a bog of a pitch, Man Utd in their European Cup winning prime and a massive crowd boosted by a huge Red Army turnout. Thanks for this, brilliant.
February 25, 201214 yr Thanks again for these clips, Eddie Mac! I well remember the 70/71 home game against Wolves, it absolutely pissed down throughout the game. The Shed was rammed with people trying to get under cover, and I couldn't get in there, having arrived late and only being a puny 13 year-old - ended up watching the game from near the Bovril entrance totally drenched. I can still remember getting home and finding that my programme was sodden, tried to dry it out, but it was always a mess after that. Also remember that Crystal Palace cup game. They made an announcement over the tannoy that if the Chelsea fans didn't stop throwing snowballs at the Palace keeper the match would be abandoned. In my memory that happened at the 69/70 Christmas game at Palace, but having seen the 70/71 footage, I was clearly mistaken. My memory is f*cked, don't get old, people!
February 25, 201214 yr Note that "Garry Jones" (with my spelling of Garry with 2 r's) scored against us for Bolton in 1977. I was a few months shy of my 16th birthday. I wanted to apply by deed pole to change my name as I did not want the name of a person who had scored against us. However I was not allowed to by myself as I was only 15. However in January of the following year..... Bolton took the FA Cup 3rd Round replay in extra time to progress to the Fourth Round, but only after a battle by Spurs. John Ritson put the home side ahead, but Peter Taylor's late penalty - his first goal for Tottenham - gave Spurs an equaliser to take the game into an extra half-hour. Bolton were the stronger side in extra time and a GARRY JONES strike settled the match in the Trotters' favour. Teams : Bolton Wanderers - McDonagh, Ritson, Nicholson, Greaves (G. Jones), Walsh, Allardyce, Morgan, Whatmore, Train, Reid, Worthington Spurs - Daines, Naylor, Holmes, Hoddle, McAllister, Perryman ©, Pratt, McNab (Armstrong), Duncan, Lee, Taylor Attendance : - 31,314 As my little bruvver was a Tottenham fan and as we had just bunged 4 past Liverpool and knocked them out one might say it was a hell of a lot of icing on a rather large cake. In 76-77 on May 7th Chelsea had got a 1-1 draw at Wolves and promotion was certain. The same day the y*ddos went down 5-1 at Maine Road and Tottenhams relegation was certain. So Chelsea riding high in Division I having just demolished the European Champions and one of the greatest football teams of all time. Tottenham were in Division II. And Garry Jones knocks Tottenham out of the FA Cup! - You couldn't make it up. If I had changed my name in 77 I would have changed it back in 78. Edited February 25, 201214 yr by GarryJones
February 25, 201214 yr > The Shed was rammed with people trying to get under cover, and I couldn't get in there I seem to recall a night when no matter where you stood in the shed the strong wind whipped the rain into your face. We were just a few hundred in the shed. This would have been possibly Jan 79 or Jan 78 in a quickly arranged friendly against Stoke City. Not many people knew about the match, played on a Friday night, I think the crowd was just over 2000. The rain soaked you even if you were at the back of the shed. The howling wind. Score? Possibly 0-0. Anyone else remember this?
