I was in the bus behind and it was funny when the scousers legged it down the road followed by our lot

I was on the us in front !

Bit of a misleading headline there, as I'm sure you know. Millwall came in the Bovril entrance (on the west side of the Shed) and mobbed up just below it - they never got in the Shed. We noticed them from up in the Shed (North Stand boys were on Shed Defence duty that day ) , and stormed down the terrace and steamed straight into them. Millwall got a good hiding that day, and were only too glad to get a police escort up to the north end of the ground. It was kind of revenge for what happened at The Den earlier in the season, but not nearly enough - death would have been too good for 'em!.

yes i remember that well and that's when they started going nuts at the other end ripping down the fencing etc

77/78 was my favourite season from those days. I was also at the Norwich game and it was the only Anglo Scottish cup game I ever attended. it was as dismal a Saturday afternoon at the Bridge as I can ever remember.I too had been on the Pitch after the Hull game at the end of the previous season and this was a big come down from that wonderful day. Talking of the Hull match and the pitch invasion, I dug up a small square of the turf that day with my metal comb (which had a sharpened edge which was fashionable at the time), took it home and planted it in an old Blueband marg pot. I then placed it on a window ledge where it remained happily growing for a number of years after. One game I did miss in 77 was the early season midweek home game against Birmingham when we won 2-1 ( I think). I was up in the highlands on the banks of the river Tummel that night and hiding from an awful rainstorm while at the same time helping to erect a folding caravan. I had my trusty radio with me and all I was interested in was the match commentary from the Bridge all those hundreds of miles away in London. While everyone else in my family was soaked and pretty fed up that night, I was delighted by a Chelsea victory and didn't give a monkeys. Great memories

That is a great read, brought back many memories! I really must try and do a similar summary of the early 70's, but I'm not at all sure my memory is up to it

Maybe a few of us old boys could put our heads together and come up with some decent anecdotes from those days (on and off the pitch), how about it lads? I'd happily organise all the input and write a chronological report from the good old days.

Nice one mate, cheers for that. I always travelled on the old specials at first, then started going to away games in Ford Transits with various South London mobs - great days! Only occasionally travelled by car or coach.

It'd be great if some people had some personal memories of particular games back then. I've can remember a lot about the early 70's both on and off the pitch, but could do with some memory jogging about certain games. People going to the same game will very likely have totally different stories to tell about the travel, the match, and the rucks - could be very interesting!

Watching that clip makes me ponder a couple of questions.

How the f*ck did deadly doug ever become a pro footballer?,I mean really,after another fubar.....what the hell.Watching that,I still have hope.
