\CB if you took this pic I'd have been sitting within a couple of yards of you that day.

Great thread and very nice for those of use who weren't born in the 70s or 80s to see what it all was like back then.

I found this photo and I don't think I've seen it in this thread. Looks like the Shed Boys are walking across the West Stand to give the away fans a warm welcome.

. Sensational. I can make out 2 of my mates down the front of the West Stand seats. My guess is 1985 Arse or Spurs at home, as theyve got the whole of the North Stand

Thats a pic from the Chelsea v Pompey game in 83/84 mate, quite a few of the same pics already in this thread.

Hey, I have a quick question but didn't think it warranted it's own thread. It refers to a Chelsea Vs Swindon game in the promotion season of 1988/89. Chelsea won 3-2 and it was a game rife with errors (possibly 3 own goals if memory serves me correctly). I had the season review on video and it had the same commentator for every game (don't know the guy's name but he did all the Chelsea games back then. Used to say "well you won't see better than that!" whenever there was a good goal.....then repeat the exact same thing the next good goal was scored. Eh? I thought I would never see better than Dixon vs Luton last week?). However, for this Swindon game he wasn't used and they had a different commentator on.....some Irish bloke. He was a dreadful commentator and got all the player's names wrong. Dunno where the hell they found him from. "Hey, can you commentate?" "Erm....yes?" "Great, you're hired for the Swindon game!" It used to make me laugh when I was younger though. "What a peach of a goal by Goooidon Joy-ry. Foive minutes ov da game gaaaane.....and da man shows dat.....his shooting boots are on again todaaaaaaaaaay!" Then he called Joe McLaughlin John McLaughlin for the entire game.

Does anyone else remember this? (I doubt it but thanks anyway)

i've still got my copy of this somewhere i bought it in the supporters shop no pictures on the front just a plain white video .the commentator was a bloke called paul dempsey your right he was terrible on this and when he was on sky as well

Thanks Whitewall. So was Paul Dempsey the regular bloke or the Irishman who stood in for one game?

If I remember correctly, Jonathan Pearce commentated on the last couple of home games....Leeds 1-0 (Bumstead) and Bradford 3-1 when we lifted the trophy.

Chelsea scored some quality goals that season.

Well my memory is even more awful than I thought then, because I'm sure I remember them only having the middle 2 sections of the North stand that day.

This footage is thanks to The Shed End's own Garry Jones. I was at that match, one of the most thrilling I've been to.

We were 3-0 down with 20 minutes to go, people were beginning to leave the ground... and then Clive Walker, the Zola of the 70s, came on.

FOUR - THREE!

There's an amusing write-up of the match on another site but I don't know if I'm allowed to link or refer to it. Perhaps someone can advise please?

C&P it done that loads myself on here.

Blimey, I know I spent most of the 70's and early 80's in a state of inebriation, but I wouldn't have made that claim even with my bestest beer-goggles on!

:happy001:

I can only assume that you're having a laugh, good one!

OK, ok Bluebeard, so maybe I'm exaggerating just a teensy weensy bit you micky-taking bugger  but Walker was something of a hero of mine, often to be relied upon to speed down the left wing and save our bacon when it really counted.

As for the link about that match - here you go. Enjoy.

Sorry to question you mate, but are you sure this was 1990? I was just thinking back to that game after reading Cathys blog about it, and my memory was walking in to their side of the Clock End after KO, and through the OB line to our bit having fired some abuse at a couple of Gooners on the way through. My memory is that it was an open end still and I can't remember the corporate boxes being there yet, but I stand to be corrected.

It was 17 March 1990....I was in the corner of the west stand with many more Chels fans....thats where I took the photo from. Hope this clears things up :)

The Zola of the 70's?? Now that would be Peter Osgood wouldn't it?? :)

I dunno if the goal of this game is on the internet anywhere but I used to have it on video. After Bumstead scored the only goal of the game, he ran over to celebrate with Durie on the touchline who had taken a long throw. As they're celebrating, you can see a Chelsea fan in the East Stand behind them.....on his own amongst the Arsenal lot.....and he is going absolutely mental.
