March 1, 20215 yr Last day of The Shed not one for Sheffield Utd fans 😁. Never bought anything as far as I recall from Chelsea Sportsland although my mate did nick a flag from there a couple of days before the 94 cup final which I had for years.

I remember many in the shed didn't join in the pitch invasions that day, and even booed those that did, I am not sure 100% but that may have been out of a degree of respect to the Sheffield United fans in the East Stand who were just coming to terms with relegation in the final minute of the game. A large number of them had been drinking with us in the White Hart before the game that day and were good value. I remember a bunch of them in fancy dress too. It was one of the few occasions back then that I remember away fans openly drinking in the White Hart.

I just googled Tom Courtenay to see a younger pic of him and it matches up. I am surprised to see Jimmy Hill in a Chelsea shirt ;). Were Frost and Courtenay fans of the Blues?

I have to say I was surprised at the numbers they bought for the 92 cup match very few clubs were given the whole North Stand so fair play to them.

I did some digging and Tom Courtenay is a Hull City fan. Although he went to school in Kingston and lived in Putney so he may well have liked Chelsea too.

Yes. That day was a cracking atmosphere. I enjoyed that game and thought were going to Wembley after that. Bloody Sunderland again!

I was in the East Upper when Byrne equalised for them can picture it even now. We watched the replay in a pub not far from me though not my local it was packed when we equalized the place went mental we just retook our seats from literally picking ourselves of the floor when they scored that to me was the epitome of what Chelsea were like back then.

Was up at Roker park for the replay. Really disappointed with our turn out, was in a pub from lunchtime and stayed there until going to the game. The landlord was a season ticket holder and knew their manager, he said that we hadn’t sold many tickets and returned thousands. It wasn’t until we got to the ground and heard from friends and people that came on the special that this in fact was true.

We had the middle section of the away end didn't we about 3,000 I would guess.?

Remember being in the East Middle for Sheff Utd and Sunderland games, your right about Sheff Utd they did bring good support, Vinny getting booked after 3 secs, the Sunderland game when Byrne equalised there was a Sunderland fan in the boxes behind the seats behind the glass giving it the big un and was taken out, not sure if he finished his prawn sandwiches!

I had a dyslexic moment then thinking when were Sheff Utd in the Middle East Re Vinny's booking, it was the fastest in Cup history at the time and Vinny near the end was ducking and weaving trying to avoid being knocked out by a Blades player. Vinny had his arms tightly by his sides to stop getting sent off. Bobby Stuart got the only goal in that cup match.

Signed that season in the winter and was pretty prolific for us, especially during that cup run. Then as you say he left for West Ham almost as soon as we went out of the cup in the QF replay. I think he even scored for West Ham against us in a match at the Bridge a week or 2 later. Before the days of transfer windows of course 😉

Sunderland brought a fair few down too. Monday night game and we should have won comfortably. Byrne was a talisman for them that season.

John Byrne was close to equalling Ossie's record of scoring in every round that year and only missed out when they lost to 2-0 to Liverpool in the final. Still another record we have! Still a great cup run that year, seeing as we'd rarely get past Round 4 in those days. From memory, I think we got something like 34,000 for the Sheff Utd game and yet when we played them in the league weeks later it was less than half that.

The cup use to quite often account for teams best attendance of the season, before it was ruined by Sky and the FA. Still now it saddens me to see empty stadiums on FA cup weekends, credit to us, in the last 15 years we must have the best attendances to capacity to any club, FA cup or Milk Cup we are always sold out!

I'm not 100% sure that is Dave Bedford obviously pre droopy tash and long hair more confident about Tom Courtenay pretty sure it's him. Thanks for confirming that it's Bryan Forbes. I think it is Dave Bedford. I remember that Bedford had a number of falling outs with those in charge of British athletics. I've been unable to find out where in Bermondsey the photo was taken but will keep on looking. Given that Bermondsey is Millwall territory I wonder if those wearing Chelsea kits received any stick.
