Valenciennes set to swoop for Chelsea defender Rajkovic

Chelsea defender Slobodan Rajkovic is set to join French side Valenciennes but it remains to be seen whether it will be on loan or on permanent deal.

L’Equipe is reporting that the 22-year-old will sign for the Ligue 1 side as the Serbian is unable to gain a work permit because he has not played enough competitive matches.

Rajkovic moved to Chelsea in 2007 from OFK Beograd but has been loaned out every season to PSV Eindhoven, FC Twente and Vitesse,

The centre-half, did however, joined the Blues for pre-season training and featured in several friendly games under new manager Andre Villas-Boas.

But with the ongoing problem regarding his work permit, the Serb will be allowed to move to Valenciennes, says L'Equipe.

The French side consider Rajkovic as an ideal replacement for his compatriot Milan Bisevac, who joined Paris Saint-Germain last month.

How many games does he have to play before he can get a WP? With all those loans deals he must have played a fair few games.

Its not about club games though, its international games that count towards a WP, and it seems he hasnt played tin the requisite 70%. Shame though, he did look very useful in the pre season games.

If this is true then my guess is that the club have had their "special circumstances" appeal turned down.

Certainly seems that way, unless its just the club making sure they have a back up plan. which cant be right as everyone knows everyone at our club are feckless and clueless.......

I never thought I'd read a comment like that from you :shok:

I'd like to know what is making it so difficult for the lad to get a permit. There are quite a few Serbians over here and as someone has already mentioned, in the years in Holland he must have clocked up a few games. There must be more to this than meets the eye. He wasn't in Arkan's Tigers was he?

And if a loan is necessary I'd have hoped for a better level - unless of course this side will guarantee the games needed to secure a permit.

Seems an odd club to send him to. Surely Dutch citizenship is the next option if he can't get a permit and you'd think he wouldn't be far away from that.

I'd hope he might stay, it would free Ivan up to stick with RB and give us the chance to rid ourselves of Bosingwa.

You missed the irony then.

I didn't but my reply was missing the lighthearted sarcasm that was intended. I'm obviously not getting the hang of the whole emoticon thing.

This makes no sense to me. He's been class in pre-season, surely we can find a way of getting him a permit, its not that hard for most.

Was thinking about this. Perhaps disciplinary record is part of the appeal process? That 2-year ban would be a HEAVY weight against him.

I'm not English, so I don't know the ins and outs- maybe we can set him up a sham wedding for English residency?

I hadn't forgotten about the ban (well I had until someone reminded me about it a couple of weeks back). I'm not sure whether it would have a direct bearing on the appeals procedure, after all it could be argued that if it wasn't for the ban, he might well have met the necessary eligibility criteria.

Not at all. This isn't a football issue- it's a Home Office one. The rules are designed to protect British employees.

I have a feeling the ban could be hanging over his head- "spitting on a referee" isn't exactly a good look on your application form to a government body.

Hope I'm not wrong, but I can't see us selling him yet. I would think that this would be a loan and we'll try again next year (or maybe in January if we can) to bring him in.

Really looks like one for the future, it's just too bad that the Serbian backline is pretty stacked - Vidic, Ivan, Kolorov, Subotic....

Great work Clouseau.

Ok Clever c**t.

Firstly,. we don't know for sure that this is true. It's a rumour.

Secondly, we don't know for sure that the club have applied for a work permit, let alone that it's been refused.

I could just as easily have written "Seems as if the club's had their "special circumstances" application turned down, which would have meant exactly the same thing.

If you're going to take the piss, find something worth taking the piss over. Otherwise you just make yourself look a c**t.

You really need to learn to calm down, seems like every time I open a thread there you are calling someone a c**t.. Relax.

Give me examples. As I recall the people I refer to as c**ts, almost without exception, are the likes of Tottenham fans, media hacks, and so on.

Problem with that?

In this case, I actually asked for the post to be deleted, which obviously didn't happen. However, as far as I can see the bloke is taking the piss. Which might be acceptable from someone I know, or someone who is a regular contributor, but when a piss take comes out of the blue like that, it's difficult not to take it as anything but deliberately unfriendly.

Edit: this is the second time you've told me to calm down. The last time was when I posted a harmless little ditty to the tune of "she'll be coming round the mountain".

Maybe you need to lighten up a bit.

Ok I'll put it another way.

Great work Clouseau.

Yes it was a guess, based on the assumption that the club have actually applied for a work permit on the grounds of "special circumstances", followed by a second assumption that this hypothetical application has been refused. A fair assumption, I think but due to the lack of facts at my disposal, purely hypothetical.

If you know better, then perhaps you'd care to enlighten us.
