On this day 46 years ago I went to my very first football match and watched Chelsea beat West Ham. Way back then it was my dream to see us win a trophy - any trophy. That happened in 1970 with the FA Cup. My dream then turned to wanting to see us win the league. I never ever thought this dream would become reality until the season of 1999-00 when I really thought we would win it. We didn't and I resigned myself to the fact I would never see us win the league. Then Roman came, followed by Jose and my dream of dreams came true - not once but twice - two seasons running. Heaven! My dream turned to us winning the double so I could finally lay to rest the abuse I took at school from the Arsenal and Spurs fans who rubbed the fact they had achieved this down my throat. For reaching that dream I thank Carlo. My final dream is to see us win the Champions League. Will it happen? Only time will tell but one thing I am sure of - I am proud to be a Chelsea fan and extremely proud that I stuck with the club through the bad times despite the crap that was thrown at me especially from the glory hunters who are far too cowardly to follow a team through thick and thin, in fact I doubt most of them have ever experienced the thin times.

Forever blue and proud of it - KTBFFH!

Good Post mate. I felt just as gutted when we didn't win the league in 1998/99, I felt the same and thought we'd never win it. Took a lot of abuse from Arsenal supporting friends and family when I started supporting Chelsea as it went against the family norm but they are my local team.

I'll always be proud to be a Blue no matter what ::ChELSeAFaN::

Geezer excellent post. Everything you have said there mirrors what I feel. For me 45 years next month and I too experienced those dark days. But you know when we were in Div 2 it didn't matter at all. The only thing that mattered was supporting your club. European Cup?? Hell I was happy with the Zenith Data Cup ( or what ever it was called) We all know now that the easy part was getting to the top........ the hardest part was staying there. Blue for life.

And that ladies and gents, is a true fan. Excellent post Geezer!

Sometimes things are taken for granted. We've had an enormous amount of success over the past decade or so but that has not always been the norm.

It's through the tough times where a fan's loyalty is put into question. That's when we see who are real fans versus those that are just glory hunters.

I know where my loyalty lies. Proud to be a Blue, and will always be a Blue!

And Geezer we'll bring home that CL trophy one day... Count on it.

well said geezer, bad times make the good times taste sweeter. bring on tottenham or the arsenal bring on the scousers by the score barcalona, real madrid tottenham are aload of ..................... ktbffh

Good post, you always remember your first. The game has moved on since those days, I've yet to be convinced its fully for the better but thats another story. Hopefully in 46 yrs time another Chelsea fan will come on here recollecting his thoughts too,who knows what that will be bring? In 1971 did any of us have any worries about what lay ahead in the next 10yrs? We all started following Chelsea at some point in our history, be it the good or bad times Fans who started following football in the latter years often get a bad press from seasoned followers but like it or lump it these are the people who will keep this club going long after the older brigade have moved on. The main thing the club keeps on going and CL? Who knows. Happy 46th Geezer.

Brilliant post!

Got me thinking and next year will be 30 years for me!

Although only started going regularly in 1988 so next year will be my 25th aniversary as a regular!

Always loved the fact that I support Chelsea, even when we were not the greatest team, we've always been Chelsea! The rest of the clubs in the country would love our location, we are the Kings of the Kings rd!

Good post, mate.

I used to get just as much pleasure watching the Chelsea that featured my personal favourites of Stanley, Harris, Hay, Britton, Locke and Walker. I think I've never been more ecstatic than when we beat Liverpool 4-2 in the FA cup in the 77/78 season, everyone said it was a fluke but we went on to beat them 3-1 in the league (this may be false memory syndrome but it's my memory and I'm keeping it!)
