barak81 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I think we will be plaing with one up top next season and it’s a safe bet that ramires will be utilised on the right. so based on our current available options I see this as a choice of three. What I believe will happen is Torres will be given the starting birth, probably not score (unfortunately I’m one of those that think that particular toy is broken beyond repair) and Sturbridge will come in score a few goals, have a bad game, be dropped and we restart the circle. However, its not what You or I think will happen, it’s what you think we should do (buy another striker is not an option) Both have their detractors, so maybe we should be giving the big man Lukaku a chance. For me Sturridge starts, he has all the tools and has really worked on his right foot (which shows a level of humility, accepting your weakness and working on them is not the attributes of an arrogant man) pace to burn, all the the “red button†skills and he’s confident, key factor for a striker. For me he is our best striker and potentially one of the best around. Whats your view point and why.
Guest RFC_CFC Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 From what we have just now it has to be Torres especially since Roman has assured him of his importance next season.
PloKoon13 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 In theory Hazard, Mata and Lampard (as well as Cole, Ramires, etc.) are going to create an unholy number of chances, and Sturridge is the best finisher out of the three (at least this season). However I'd imagine Torres would have a mare if he still isn't considered #1, even after Drogba's departure, and so we might have to start with him.
shedpensioner Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 With all the rumours floating around at the moment, Sturridge might not be here next season! Torres is the main man for us now, I doubt its even up for debate!

shedpensioner Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 it is because it s a forum of oppion and by its very nature fules debate I'm not bitching, just saying that its probably 100% Torres
Guest RFC_CFC Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I'm not bitching, just saying that its probably 100% Torres You would have to think so as Roman basically said as much to Torres...
TheWestwayWonder Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 If he's still here, Torres. If Torres misfires, Sturridge.
TheWestwayWonder Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 (edited) Is this really a poll question? It might be considered a simple question, but can you blame someone for wanting to discuss the striker situation with a blank slate? Take one gander at the Torres thread to see the absolute trainwreck of laughable bullsh*t its become. Any discussion of this topic seems blighted by the same dogmatic, prejudicial, absurdly personal war of words that has been going on for the past 12 months on this site. Davey Baby Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 So, let's just say I'm the manager, as I really ought to be. Who do I play up top on their own, is that what you're asking me? I really don't want to give away too much of my thinking but I'll answer your question as honestly as I can. I start with Torres. He has bleached blonde hair. You can't argue with that. I like his tattoos. If Xavi, Iniesta and Messi had tattoos there's no limit to what they could achieve. I tell Torres to drive into the box. I tell him to go sniffing around for goals. I remind him what "goals" are, in case he's forgotten. I show him the goal and I put the ball in it, just to clarify. Sometimes things can get lost in translation. I speak to Sturridge. I say, "Danny .." He likes to be called Danny. I say, "Danny, your chance will come." He says, "When?" I say, "Sometime next month, as soon as the Carling Cup starts". He says, "Boss .." I like to be called Boss. He says, "Boss, I'm better than Torres." I say, "I know you are son." "Danny" says Danny. I say "Sorry Danny, you will get your chance, and when you do I'm sure you will score goals." "And what happens then?" says Danny, "What happens after I score goals?" "Why you drop down to the bench of course" I say. "Why?" says Danny, "Why does Torres get preferential treatment?" "He has blonde hair" I say, "He has tattoos, he has his cock pierced, if you applied yourself in the same way maybe you would improve your chances. Get an alice band. Come on son. Try. I'm not taking any sh*t off you you little upstart." Sometimes these players need to be put through their paces. They think they can walk into the f*cking team. Not on my watch.

Davey Baby Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 There is an ignore function. I suggest you use it. Cheerio.
PloKoon13 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 It seems Davey's silver tongue is too sharp for some.
PloKoon13 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I just got a PM from Mod saying "Don't encourage him"
Davey Baby Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 A musical interlude .. May he rest in peace .. The irrepressible Gil .. Peace and love folks .. Whichever side of the Torres divide you fall on ..
g3.7 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 torres on the basis that he's the best of that lot. I don't really see sturridge ever starting through the middle in a system that doesn't have two central forwards. obviously it is do or die for torres. I think overall he was decent last season given how many goals he was involved in, but our center forward has to be part of the spine of the side. not just in position, but in terms of responsibility. torres needs to go from a decent attacker who aids the key players to one of the key players himself. his teammates will look to him like they did to drogba and still will to cech and to terry. and he'll have to respond to that. what I'm saying is that there are players that adorn a side (robben at chelsea) and players that truly make the side (drogba at chelsea). torres HAS to go from the first group to the second.

Now that we know how much he looks like a girl we can all weigh in with an informed opinion. Thanks Davey, this thread was really getting off topic. Speaking of that ignore function...
Myles_91 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Torres although if we want to get top 4 or win the league Torres alone won't be enough. Look at the striking options Arsenal, United and City all currently have,
Adam Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Answered Torres but we definitely need a new striker. If Torres plays anything like he did last season for the first bunch of games we can't keep using him and hoping he will improve, plus we don't have King Didier to rely on for the big games anymore. Sturridge isn't good enough to lead the line and Lukaku isn't ready, needs a year at a prem league club on loan. Slightly worried that we are constantly being linked with wingers/attacking midfielders and not strikers.
