Sing the Blues Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) The link to Cavani just pissed me off. I mean why keep on buying strikers when the actual problem exists elsewhere? The current CMs Chelsea have are in no way at a level to challenge the top clubs. Mikel while functional is no game changer. Essien is a gamble. He could improve or be a hindrance like the last season. Josh still needs time. Romeu looks to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Raul blows hot or cold and more often than not he reaches freeze levels. The only heavyweight here is Lampard and looking at his stats he is even worse than the thug Gerrard. Even Scholes is at a better level. Chelsea need to upgrade before competing with the big boys. Looking at all the top clubs they have players like Alonso,Xavi,Pirlo,Scholes,Yaya Toure etc. Chelsea's look heavy on the quantity in central midfield but really poor in quality. The Moos Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 To bad we buy crap players like Hazard, Marin and Oscar and also keep abysmal ones like Ramires and Mata. We're f*cked this season.
PloKoon13 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Central midfield is hardly England's strong spot; the fact that they're including 'luminaries' such as Scott Parker and Jack Rodwell on the list of the best we have is testament to that. I'm not entirely sure how fair their points system is either; aerial 50-50s are hardly as important to Lampard as they would be to a defensive midfielder, and the reverse applies for goals, yet the points system is entirely egalitarian in that respect.
ace Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 The link to Cavani? You mean the Daily Fail making up a story again? Glad that fabrication has caused you to be angry at our club.
dkw Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Chelsea need to upgrade before competing with the big boys. What?
Sing the Blues Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 What? Manchester City, Real Madrid. Hell even Spuds have a Modric.

If you take a look at Scholes and Gerrard they are still way above Lampard's performance last season. Even chances created are fewer than Gerrard and in nearly a 1000 mins more.
dkw Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Manchester City, Real Madrid. Hell even Spuds have a Modric. And you dont think we can compete with these?
Sing the Blues Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 And you dont think we can compete with these? With the current CMs Chelsea have it will be difficult. The pivot is much weaker compared to a lot of other teams out there.
Damo810 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) And you dont think we can compete with these? Maybe they missed that game we played, against some german side there. We won some cup I think? With the current CMs Chelsea have it will be difficult. The pivot is much weaker compared to a lot of other teams out there. You'll see Hazard dropping back to the half way line to help create attack I think, and if oscar is deployed on the right he'll do the same too. Thats supposedly 'typical' of him. With the possibility of putting Oscar in the pivot, and still having the option of lampard, I think the pivot will be fine for this season. Even more so if Essien recovers. charierre Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 The teams with the three top points scorers in this statistical table won how many trophies last year?
Sing the Blues Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Maybe they missed that game we played, against some german side there. We won some cup I think? http://www.weaintgotnohistory.com/2012/5/20/3031354/chelsea-vs-bayern-munich-2012-champions-league-final-score-match-report Says it much better than I can. 1-" Lampard failed to sever the link between Kroos and Mueller" quoted from the article 2- Drogba ain't around anymore.
dkw Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 He lost me the minute he said Mikel is no game changer.... erm he isnt supposed to be. Then he says his stats are worse than Gerrard, except they actually arent. I`m confused.

So who would you expect us to sign? A defensive midfielder on par with lampards quality of passing while increasing the defensive ability would cost a fair bit. Also remember there will be a different playing style next year. And true, that why I would have welcomed another striker this season, but even still, we have rebuffed our attacking midfield..
Adam Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I literally can't put into words what I think about this thread. Jeeeezus I mean it's not like we won 2 cups last year. Basing your opinion entirely on statistics is just sad.
BumsteadCFC Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 One of the stranger, more irrational and unneccessarily pessimistic threads I've ever read online.
That Boy Brandinho Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Manchester City, Real Madrid. Hell even Spuds have a Modric. Which one of those clubs won the Champions League last year? I can't recall.
Sing the Blues Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Are people seriously denying that Gerrard, gerriatric Scholes and Carrick were not better than Lampard last season? Like it or not Chelsea were 6th in the PL. Those cups that Chelsea won should actually help in buying a better CM than the current version of Lampard.Maybe then the rest of the team would be able to play their game rather than putting in extra effort to cover Lampard's short-comings which have become more apparent with age.

Mate, you're embarrassing yourself.

Yes, I'm denying that. Old men deny it with their death rattle and unborn children deny it in their mothers' wombs. Lampard is not as good as he once was, but he's still comfortably better than the likes of Michael f**king Carrick and more than good enough to do a job for us. The graph you posted is nonsensical and you've yet to construct an argument outlining why Lampard isn't good enough aside from saying "he's not good enough".
Spiller86 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Quite honestly when Carrick, Scholes & Gerrard are the top three you know something is wrong with the stats. Scholes is 380 years old and played about half of games. Similarly Gerrard was also injured. Easier to get a high rating while having a minute sample size.
