Final game of the first round before we move on to the semi-finals.

Jonty:

Subs:

Ronaldinho

Seedorf

Goalkeeper: The most important position on the pitch, I've made sure to shut up shop with the man widely considered to be the best ever in that position,

Defence: A little and large combo at CB, Vasovic has great pace, is a fantastic tackler and can sweep up any loose ends, as well as having great distribution to get the ball moving (was a member of Ajax's total football squad). You'll all know Nesta, arguably the most reliable defender of the last deade, imposing physically and will be able to get all over Eto'o. Ashley Cole has a proven track record against C.Ronaldo that he can keep him in his pocket even in the biggest of games, and Suurbier will be a big threat going forward and his pace and stamina is legendary.

Midfield: In a game where every player is world class, I chose to go with two real steely players in the middle of the park, that can bully and hustle even the most composed players out of the game. Matthaus is a tireless runner not unlike our own Ramires, and is able to contribute at both ends of the field constantly with his quality touch, tackling ability and his long shot screamers. Roy Keane is one of the most bullish midfielders to ever play the game and will know all about Dennis Bergkamp.

Attack: Garrincha was in the Team of the Century at the right of the 4-3-3 next to Pele and Maradona, and is one of the greatest dribblers the world has ever seen, and will have no qualms with going directly at the full back. On the other wing Iniesta won't offer so much width, but combined with Zidane against CBB's team that only has one holding midfielder, they will easily knock the ball around Essien and create chances. Regardless of how powerful the bison is, when he is 1v2 against two of the great playmakers ever he stands little chance.

Striker: Nordahl may not be as well known as most but he is arguably the greatest striker in the history of Italian football, with the best goals/game ratio and the second highest amount of goals scored in Serie A history, as well as a record 5 top scorer awards. His mix of power and deadly efficient finishing make him a true vintage target man, not too unlike our recent legend Didier Drogba.

Overall, with Keane and Matthaus able to physically dominate the likes of Bergkamp and Zico and Iniesta and Zidane being given so much room in which to operate, I think at both ends my team would be dominant.

CBB:

abEDjW5agR.jpg

Subs:

Villa

Redondo

Defence: strong and powerfull back 4 who can deal with anybody on their day, Terry and Desailly are solid and not many will beat them in the air and they will throw their body on the line if needed! They both read the game as good as anybody and are both awesome leaders! my full backs posses class, speed and goals who will get forward to help out at whilst not neglecting their duties to defend. And of course if your lucky enough to get past the back four then you get to meet Khan oh thats right mr plate hands himself a rock solid goalkeeper who was world class and hard as nails!!

Def mid: Essien in his prime was an animal and he will be my midfield engine powerfull in the tackle and destructive in attack with limitless energy he will never give up!

Center Mid: Zico this man needs no introduction, A genius on the ball and will be the playmaker.

Wings: Ryan Giggs in his prime was a world beater and would walk into any team in any era and partnered with Christiano Ronaldo who as we all know can win a game on his own he has everything he can head the ball, he's got a trick or three, can score from anywhere this is why he has been one of if not the best player in the world today! With these 4 in midfield we have power flair and a dangerous thought for any team who is unlucky enough to face them.

Strikers: Bergkamp will play in the hole behind eto'o linking play with the midfield making the most of  the pace of Eto'o, Bergkamp tricks and dazzles defences making them look foolish so playing Eto'o with him will compliment both sets of skills.

Subs: Redondo can play anywhere i need him too in midfield or a emegency defender and Villa can play in any of my attacking options.

Very much so, however I've always thought that Redondo was superior to Keane, very surprised that CBB isn't starting him. In any case Jonty just has too much firepower for his defense to deal with, I've gone with him too.

I've gone for Jonty mostly because I think a midfield comprising of Zindane, Iniesta, Keane and Matheaus looks lethal.

Plus, Ashley Cole had C. Ronaldo's number, if anyone can keep him quiet it's Cole.

As beastly as Essien was in his prime, he looked best when Makalele was there to sit giving him license to charge from box to box, I think asking him to sit deep all long would lower his influence on a match.

That said, a front pairing of Bergkamp and Eto'o isn't to shabby and could cause problems.

Gotta say Jonty here. Both teams have great attacking players but Essien with just Zico ahead of him would get overrun by Matthaus and that c**t Keane and Zidane/Iniesta dropping in to provide passing options.

As CBB I would have started Essien and Redondo and put one of Zico and Bergkamp on the bench - they're both amazing players but it would balance the team more.

As Jonty I'd sub Ronaldinho on for Iniesta in the first 15 mins :D

Basically that - I would drop Bergkamp and play Zico just ahead of Redondo and Essien.

Two very strong sides Jonty's midfield steel and strong centre back pairing would be difficult to bypass but equally CBB's defence with Essien sat just in front of it would be hard to break down. Both teams have fullbacks who can get forward and for me this game would be won out wide. CBB has two wingers who on their day could get in behind any defence. Garincha would certainly cause problems for Gemmil and Nordahl's strength could cause Terry and Desailly problems.

It's tight but Zico pulling the strings and getting it wide to Ronaldo and Giggs just shades it for me.

I think we saw the difference against City on Sunday when a team of dainty players comes up against some real steel in midfield.

Also I'm not sure if Cole will be good enough for the late stages of the game but I certainly believe he could keep Ronaldo quiet.

And why would that be? What weakness does he have?

None in particular, and certainly one of the standout left backs of the decade, but it will be a lot trickier coming up against Best, Dzajic or Matthews. In fact I think he'd have a better shot against Laudrup then the former players, even though they're not necessarily better.

CBB for me too, I think he has more attacking options. Matthaus is a true scumbag, and I've always thought Zidane was over-rated. CBB's centre of defence is very strong too, with Essien protecting JT & Desailly (maybe just a tad of Chelsea bias there, I love it!)

No better than Jonty's in my eyes, plus he has two players protecting the defense. It's been two days now so congratulations to Jonty. Who will you pick to take from the opposing team?

Only 1 vote in it, as close as I expected it to be with two good teams.

Am I right in assuming the 1 from each nationality in the starting XI still applies to the player I take from CBB? If so i'll take C.Ronaldo, if not i'll take JT.
