North stand ssshhhhhh!

Featured Replies

Sat in MH lwr once and watched it from the opposite end a few times this season and Christ on a bike has it gone downhill! No noise, no singing, no standing, no rockall really. Sad.

Wouldn't say it's any different this season to be honest.

On a good day for a big game it's decent, for the average game v mid table sort of opposition it's a bit pony which is the same for all big premiership clubs these days.

To say there is 'no singing or standing' is a bit off though, for games like City for example I don't think anyone sat down the whole game and there is always singing to varying degrees.

There is definitely room for improvement but its still by far the most atmospheric part of the ground for home fans, not that the east or west stands provide any competition what so ever.

I too have noticed this.Although it has been quiet at times in the past, this season seems to have got worse bar a few games like City.

Strange considering the talk last year for the lack of atmosphere blaming the fat one everyone said the atmosphere will be better when Jose comes back. Bit worrying when the north stand is quite.

Sadly stevo you could be right. Imagine the atmosphere if we built a new ground.

Would be like Arsenal, It seems that with success you get sh*t atmospheres due to the majority of corporate, middle class and tourist spectators. All people who couldn't give a toss about the club.

Yeah stevo I'm after losing count of the times I've been told to sit down or heard other people being told to sit down really pisses me off. If you.want to sit on your hands go to the opera leave football.alone.

Can I just take this opportunity to say the 'zigger zagger' guy in the Shed End is absolutely fantastic. That part of the Shed is singing a lot of the time, well done lads.

Which part upper or lower?

Against West Brom there were stages were minutes gone by and it was like a library, it was like everyone nodded off..... then someone would shout 'come on!' and there would be a brief roar, then it would go quiet again.

Sad really. Noone can be arsed these days.

The big games are a whole other story, but I guess the home support is so expecting that we've become complacent / spoilt as a whole.

Spot on Graham. When you think back to some of the past games atmosphere, its hard to stomach what it has become.

This in part may be true but I also think that the home crowd is diluted with far more tourists for the lesser games with ST holders seemingly flogging their tickets, you only have to check Viagogo out to see pages and pages of tickets up for grabs.

For the bigger games I think the turn out is that bit better and naturally everyone is that bit more pumped up for the occasion- the atmosphere for games like United, City, Spuds and Arsenal is decent enough in my book.

Overall I think most people that go these days sadly know not to expect anything special on the atmosphere front for a bog standard league games though and it's just modern football- away games are where it's at for atmosphere.

Said this before on here if we got bet I wouldn't mind as long as the atmosphere was good. Let's face it we don't even have a pub anymore for a sing song no real chelsea supportters pub with pictures on the walls and so on. If I ever won the lottery the first thing I'd do is try buy a boozer near the ground and decorate it top to bottom in blue. Landlords take the piss out of chelsea fans around the ground. I'm sure all the other big clubs around have proper boozers for proper fans. You can keep your wine bars

For the big games (Spurs, United, Liverpool, Arsenal, West Ham) the atmosphere is very good and for evening European nights it's decent but for other teams it's pretty poor tbh! If United can get their safe standing campaign to work then this could help us. The club are listening to the fans more and more and many would like to see the safe standing in the Shed  and in the Matthew Harding lower i'm sure. If the other half of the Shed then became a 'singing section' along with the vocal support from those in the Matthew Harding, then we'd have a top atmosphere for every game.

Good article in today,s observer re atmosphere. But I never really bought into the idea that 'one man went to now' creates atmosphere or motivates players. It's noise...watch Celtic home to Leeds at Hampden in European cup...no singing, no chanting but a red hot atmosphere. I went to the den early sixties and was struck by the noise created by the fans, of course we had a huge bowl of a stadium so it was always harder. I still don't think its that bad at the bridge, we just need to roar the team on, forget about singing sections etc.

But José blaming 'the profile' of our crowd for the lethargy of our performance v west brom sounds a bit desperate tbh.

I thought we paid a manager to sort out their performance.

I still reckon our core support (ie those who would still go if we were sh*t and relegated to be between 15000 and 20,000 tops. So you gotta accept over 20,000 per game are there for the experience of premiership football. West stand upper full of fans taking pictures etc, but we have to live with that to fill our stadium.

But it doesn't help if the team are farting around on the pitch and players don't look like they are bothered.

Sad how things have become with success. When I first started going to the bridge the average was 17000 but we would outsing the bridge now, no problem! All seater stadiums have ruined the atmosphere at football and increased the prices and because of this most hardcore fans don't attend. What was a day out with your mates has changed, I also blame how sky have tried to Americanise our game also games no longer all being 3pm on a Saturday.

Like Bucks Blue has mentioned and many others on this forum until we get sections of the ground set aside for singing etc its difficult to all meet up. My last game the atmosphere is the shed lower was a non event and I also have two mates now who only go away because of this.

the trouble is that people like myself would love to go to many more games, and would sing our hearts out to support the team, but as someone who has attended uni for 4 years, there is absolutely no way i can afford to attend more than 2/3 games a season. each game costs me around 100 pounds including the ticket price (50), travel costs (20-30 as i live in Milton Keynes) and food/beer etc.the true fans are completely priced out. i hate being an armchair fan, but other than xmas/birthday presents its near enough impossible to afford the live experience which is, as most members on here have said, not the full experience that it should be due to the watered down support

I know.plenty of lads that gave up season tickets just simple can't afford it and these are lads living in Fulham. As coxy says its not just the price of a ticket it's everything else. Let's face it the pubs are quite expensive near the ground and then if you want food its more money. The club don't seem to realise this. Away games up north are so much cheaper for food and drink. How can a father bring he's boy to football with the cost of it. The club is losing generations of proper fans.

Gotta be honest, there,s more atmosphere watching a game in a pub and it's a lot cheaper, not sure where future generations of young fans are going to come from...
