SPECTRE

Featured Replies

Just seen Spectre. Verdict: Daniel Craig's finest Bond film to date. Just brilliant, in every way. All the Bond elements were there, the locations, the action, the girls, the villains.

Review to follow

Sean Connery - Dr No for me. I also enjoyed Thunderball, but Never Say Never Again, was a mistake.

Didn't like the Roger Moore era at all, too many puns and silly gimmicky enemies, although Live & Let Die had it's comedy moments.

George Lazenby - OHMSS - My favourite Bond. He only lasted one film though, apparently his agent advised him against further films. Surely bad advice.

Didn't bother with Dalton or Brosnan. Not watched any of theirs right through.

Daniel Craig - Much more like it, learning from the Jason Bourne style.

David Niven - Loved this spoof

I don't even count "Never Say Never Again", as it wasn't one of the Eon-produced films. I didn't care for "The Spy Who Loved Me", since it had nothing to do with the novel (I read the novels and short stories before I watched the films all the way through).

Saw it yesterday and thought it was great.  But I don't think it was as fantastic as Skyfall which I thought had everything.  Tbh I even was more blown away by Casino Royale but I admit that was probably partly because my expectations were so much lower for that.

Anyway, I'm hopeless at reviews (partly because I can never remember names so it all ends up as "thingy") and there are probably loads of plot details that went straight over my head.  And I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but I liked the villains; the stunts and effects were, as usual, fantastic, Daniel Craig was .........well Daniel Craig (brilliant in my eyes), I missed Judi Dench and the banter between her and Bond.  Anyway I look forward to reading BB's review.

Oh and it was the first time for ages I've been to see a film at the multi-screen cinema.  I'd forgotten how much I hate the all pervading smell of popcorn and god knows what else (some sort of hot savoury thing - whatever it was it smelt disgusting!) and how much bloody noise people make rustling their food.  I usually go to our tiny independent cinema where no popcorn is sold, but wine and beer are - so much more civilised (and the same price).

Gosh, I envy you guys.

I still have 3 more days to go before I can finally watch it.

Oh time, please go faster.

Very good review BB!  I like that you noticed that DC was looking extremely fit!  I do feel that there's enough in the film to see it again already.

Oh, one thing though - wasn't it a mouse not a rat?

You're probably right, BQ, I will change it.  I just remember Connery saying in Diamonds are Forever, "I was out walking my rat and seem to have lost my way"...

Daniel Craig looked fantastic in the suits he wore, very fit.

I still cannot believe that Sean Connery was only 32 when Dr No was made. 32!! FFS how tough was his life to look so old at 32?

He was Scottish.

We don't look as fresh faced as many sadly!

I couldn't believe he used to be a body builder lol

I love reading the goofs on IMDB - you can just hear them saying "Actually, I think you'll find......"

In the final scene on Westminster Bridge/Parliament Square we see a London bus No.15 with the destination "Trafalgar Square" showing on the front. Although the No.15 bus route does occasionally terminate at Traflagar Square its route is nowhere near Westminster Bridge or Parliament Square running as it does from St.Paul's along Fleet Street, Strand, Trafalgar Square and then up Haymarket, Regent Street, Oxford Street and out to Paddington.

Factual errors
Bond would not have been allowed to take the prototype DB10 from the UK to Rome without a V5C or valid VE103 Vehicle On Hire certificate. It would have taken the DVLA at least 28 days to process a change of V5 ownership, and Bond had a time limit of 48 hours. Additionally, as a prototype, it wouldn't have Type Approval, so a V5/V5C wouldn't exist.

Actually I think you'll find that these are not goofs but is called artistic licence.

Saw it tonight. I write this fearfully having read the comments on here, but I thought it was DC's worst Bond to date - and I really, really wanted to enjoy it having loved Skyfall and Casino Royale.

There were obviously good bits to it - some of the fight scenes, the humour and Lea Seydoux, but I didn't enjoy a lot of it. I didn't think Andrew Scott played 'C' at all well - he should have been more dislikeable. I thought that Christoph Waltz didn't get enough screen-time for the first 80% of the film and didn't seem as intimidating or as 'in control', i.e. one step ahead, as other recent Bond villains such as Le Chiffre or the guy from Skyfall. I also felt that there were too many references to past films and too many plot-lines that were the same as the last few films.

Anyway, I don't regret seeing it as it's a Bond film which I'll always enjoy for the typical humour and action, but I was still disappointed by it overall and would give it around a 6 out of 10.

Have you seen QOS??

In fairness, IMDB ratings have Spectre below Casino Royale and Skyfall so I'm not alone.

Spectre certainly isn't the best of Craig's Bond films IMO.

It was good but not nearly as good as some have been making out.

That's fine, but there is no way Spectre is on par with Quantum of Solace

I don't even think QoS was that bad. I thought they were both okay-ish films with Skyfall and Casino Royale being on another level.

Have you seen QOS??

Yep - I'd probably put it on about par with Spectre actually.

If that is accurate, then Spectre is truely dire. Quantum of Solace is one of the worst if not the worst Bond movie that I've seen and probably the worst movie I've paid to see in a cinema in the past ten years. A total dung-heap of a movie and I feel they would've been better off scrapping the script.

^ Well said Maks. Are you planning on seeing Spectre?

I might, but I'm not in any hurry to do so. The trailer wasn't very good. But then again, there are so many mediocre trailers out there. Even for great movies.

Trailers have so many spoilers in them these days too. The only trailer that has got me really excited for a film in the last couple of years is the latest Force Awakens trailer.
