SPECTRE

Featured Replies

I think DC's contracted to do one more after this.  He's said he wants to move on after that.

Indeed. He got paid £10m for Skyfall, he is getting £15m for Spectre and £15m for his final one, which will be released in 2018 in all likelihood. He said that if he did carry on after that, it would only be for the money!

He's been a great Bond though, he's really thrown himself into the role and given his all.

To be honest I would probably do it if they told me lunches were provided for free.

I'd ask for a decent health and accident insurance as well.

I saw the new James Bond trailer at the cinema yesterday. At least I think it was the trailer, it might have been a mobile phone advert. It's hard to tell with Bond these days.

Looks pretty average from the trailers, To be fair for it to be better than Skyfall is a big ask.

Tom Hardy seems to be the favourite for next Bond after DC.

You mean Bane is the favourite for the next Bond?

They're doing more Mad Max movies and you'd think Tom Hardy will be involved. Would he want to or even be able to commit to two franchises at the same time?

I had to google this Tom Hardy. I got used to Daniel Craig, but I don't think I can get used to him.

I do agree James Bond should continue being white, male and British... why go all PC and change a character? A female Thor is a bit rubbish too.

It's not even about being PC, it just isn't Bond.

The character has existed for over 60 years and is as popular as ever, I just see no logic to changing character for a reason no better than "just because".

You don't think one of the reasons there's talk (if only a little) of changing toe character in some form isn’t a little bit down to political correctness then?

You're seen to be moving with the times, 60 years ago there was no such thing as equality in Hollywood. By changing it now you’re “proving” it’s a level playing field and anyone can play anyone regardless of colour, gender, sexual preference and so on.

As I said, I don’t agree, James Bond is white, male and British. Let it be.

If they want to create more leading roles for black actors in Hollywood then they should get on the phone to the screen writers guild and ask them to come up with a new IP where the main protagonist is black.

The idea of butchering a much loved and respected fictional character for the sake of box ticking is rather pathetic in my opinion.

I'm not disagreeing, in fact my initial post on this subject agreed with you.

I’m just explaining how it can be seen as PC by considering other people for this role.

I'm no Bond expert. Apart from the fact that previous Bonds have been played by white actors, is there anything about the character of James Bond that specifically requires him to be white?

It can be seen as being an open minded choice, but I'm not sure about how it is a PC choice. Politically correct is something that is meant to be as neutral and inoffensive to people as possible. I'm not saying I would be offended if they made a Bond movie with a black lead actor or a female actor in the role of 007. Far from it, but then again... Would changing the ethnicity of Shaft be considered politically correct? Or if Ripley would be played by a man in the next Alien movie? I don't think fiddling around with established characters is the way to bring true equality. That will need bigger changes in the industry and society.

Main thing I can point to is Ian Fleming's personal image of Bond

All the real life person's the character is based on were white as well.

He's "required" to be white in so far as that's how he was written.
