R.I.P. Dave Mackay

Featured Replies

Dave Mackay died last night at the age of 80.

Mackay was a superb player, for Hearts, Tottenham, Derby and Scotland. Despite being known as a hard man, he was a brilliant footballer, and I feel priviileged to have seen him play a few times. When his playing career ended he went into management, and won the Division One championship in charge of Derby in 1975 in only his second season, a remarkable achievement.

So sad to lose yet another footballing legend...

Jimmy Greaves said he was the best player he ever played with. Also one of the few players who could make Billy Bremner look like a naughty schoolboy.

RIP

Just reading about him in the Daily Mail what a man & footballer, I never had the pleasure to see him play, more is the pity reading about his legendary

accomplisments, broke his leg, returning to play again, after being told he has broken it again after playing just another 4 game, did not believe he had,

so got up stamped his leg on ground only then did he believe it when it pieced the skin & sock. Like I said what a man.

RIP big man, I might have missed seeing you play, but I will not now miss reading all that I can of you & your career.
