Has the Champions League ruined domestic football?

Featured Replies

You are so cocky, how does it only have one answer?

If Europe wasn't so profitable do you honestly believe teams wouldn't take the League Cup and FA Cup more seriously?

I'm saying that the Champions League has played a role, but so has the domestic league perhaps moreso.

I disagree, I think it's the consequence of losing the Cup Winners Cup and the expansion of the CL that is the catalyst.

So you think that the growth of the Champions League (something which at most affects 7 teams a season) has had more of an effect on the domestic cups than the growth of the Premier League (which affects the 20 teams in the league and the 8-10 in the Championship trying to gain promotion)?

OK.

Oh stop been a pretentious know it all.

Yes I do, the other clubs do still take them seriously, it's most of the club's performing outside of Europe that do.

Then we'll have to agree to disagree. No need to start throwing insults around though is there Tyke?

For some supporters, they follow the club out of passion and a connection, if that club never won a trophy it wouldn't matter to those supporters.

For other supporters, they have a win at all costs attitude and damn the rest attitude, not realising that 1 day they may be with 'the rest'.

I know which camp most on here are in, and I know which camp Blue Daze is in!

Which is why I don't say things like lets rest the entire team for the League Cup final like some have when it was as important as any trophy to win. You never know if these moments will be your last.

There's only a few trophies to go for each year, they're all valuable, and provide rare moments for the players. Only a very few get the chance to climb the steps at Wembley.

There seems to be a sense of entitlement with some on here.

Fact is I've been supporting this club since I could and I've been going to matches since 1992. I was at Wembley in 1993 and I was there this year so I'm not quite sure where you get off questioning my attitude.

As it is I've read enough about you on here to not really care what you think.

I didn't say rest the entire team but what does it matter if I did? I still go and support my team whether or not we put out the strongest team because it's still my club and the supporters of that club are my family.

It's not entitlement but pragmatism and reality. I want Jose to stick around for the long haul and I'm realistic about what's required for that.

Calling you a tyke isn't an insult. You're from Leeds aren't you?

As it is, what's with people questioning other people's support? Especially people like ShedPensioner, You and Zola? I honestly don't see where you get the balls to do such a thing when I've been one of the few people who actually goes out of their way to try and help people get tickets to actually go to matches.

Have any of you done the same?

Enjoy your day boys

Ha ha the old cause I go to matches I'm more of a fan than you crap. Bollocks off mate you know nothing about my personal life and how much I love this football club.

I don't see where I ever said you weren't a proper fan either. Seems the things I have said have clearly touched a nerve and you are getting all defensive like a child.

You honestly bore me to tears, you just disagree for the sake of it half the time.

For this I wish there was a superlike button!!

Wembley 1993 must have been a lonely place for a Chelsea fan!

I don't have to question your attitude, your attitude is stamped over every arguement you've gotten into since you started to post regularly.

I'm glad you don't care what I think, because I wouldn't want someone like you to have an opinion about me.

You're an arse, in fact you're the biggest arse I've ever had the misfortune to converse with and that takes some doing considering some of the customers I have to deal with day after day!

If people want to question my support of this club then why can't I do the same back?

ShedPensioner did, and you liked the post. If you don't like people questioning other people's support then don't 'like' it when they do. As for you, I'm sure you love this club a lot. Me too. That's why I, and thousands like me, go to support our club.

Typo - 1994.

Honestly though, if you don't like me then put me on ignore. I'll do the same because if I wanted the opinion of a middle-aged car salesman then I'd go to my nearest Wetherspoons at 10am.

But don't question my support of this club over the internet. Be brave.

Edited by Blue Daze

My favourite ever memory of winning a cup was the Cup winners one tbh.

It had cup romance written all over it.

Mine was probably the FA Cup in 1997. Nothing really compares to singing Abide With Me with 70,000 other football fans and then barely sitting down before your team scores. Utterly unbelievable and was the start of so much at this club.

But then 2012 felt like the culmination of that journey, seeing grown men brought to tears witnessing something they never thought they'd see.

And that's the thing. Any trophy is great so long as you're surrounded by fellow supporters. There is nothing close to that feeling.

Blue Daze how did I question your support of the club? Show me where I did that?

Again with a dig because I don't go to the games ::clap2:: well done for crossing the line to complete twat!

So you didn't 'like' ShedPensioner's post where he questioned my support of this club? You didn't do that, no?

If people are going to question my support, what's the problem with me doing the same? You dig me out but not ShedPensioner and then moan?

What's with the dick wagging competition? ::gEeZer:: Does it even matter who's the biggest fan?

Unfortunately to some it does. I thought we were all just Chelsea supporters who maybe viewed competitions differently but according to ShedPensioner, only some 'follow the club out of passion and a connection'....which is ironic when you look at who 'liked' that comment.

Personally I could do without the whole  ::gEeZer:: , but I'm sure you understand that if people question your allegience to something that means so much to you, you might react....in a certain manner. :laugh2:

That's the beauty of this club. We all actually support the same team even if we disagree on certain issues. We don't need to get into the 'who's a proper fan' sh*t, but if people want to discuss that then they can.
