Oh, I'm quite serious. I just find them boring, even though on paper they sound like something I might like. As for Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree, I know I don't like those kinds of bands even on a theoretical level. Even the way those two bands sound like on record is way too polished and cold.

I can kindof understand if someone finds classic prog rock/metal bands boring though they have quite a number of songs with a lot of passion. But Tool? Not liking it is one thing but dull? What? Anyway, I don't want to argue as we will never convince each other about this, just found it very strange.

Well, I've listened to Tool albums and basically it seems like something I should like at least a bit, but I always find myself switching off when I hear them. It's not like there aren't many things happening in their music, it's just that what's happening is not very interesting to me.

Placebo. The singer's voice is like nails down a blackboard for me. He seems like a poseur twat too.

Edit - Also Muse. f**king terrible pompous sh*t.

Haha I thought I was the only one... but don't let Modulish hear this or we'll both be banned! ;-)

Agree with Muse - girlfriend loves them so that's unfortunate.

I really cannot stand the Libertines - although I think that is because Pete Doherty is a massive scumbag.

Can't stand Muse or Bon Jovi either.

I really dislike a lot of 80s bands: Duran Duran, Spandau, Japan, Depeche Mode.... I could go on.

From the 70s I absolutely hate Yes.

I... I just don't know what to say... How very dare you!

I absolutely hate Blink 182 with a passion.

My son listens to nothing but hiphop/gangster rap, personally I don't even class this sh*te as music, it doesn't belong to my culture, class or ears!!

To me they're not even one of the greatest punk bands of the '00s, if you ask me*. They made one or two decent tunes, but that's about it. Considering the amount of great music that has come and keeps coming from England, I'm surprised people still talk about them with such glowing terms. When people in general are more familiar with the reputation of a band member as drug addicted douche than they are with any of their songs, then you know your legacy in music won't be a lasting one.

*(To be honest, I'm not sure if they should even be considered a punk band. They're more like a garage rock band.)

I agree that their music wasn't groundbreaking, but their impact on the music industry was a fairly big one. For one reason or another their music managed to break into the mainstream and after them the doors were open for many others to follow. For that they have to be applauded as it's never a bad thing when the mainstream gets shaken a bit.

I don't see what Nirvana and Black Flag have to do with each other apart from them both being bands consisting of American boys playing electric guitars, bass and drums. They're as similar to me as the places they originally came from: Black Flag from sunny California and Nirvana from grey and dreary Aberdeen. Ok, they both made a bit of a racket while doing it, but Black Flag were a hard core punk band, while Nirvana were an indie rock band. Nirvana did have some punk rock influences in their music, especially early on, but I think Pixies would be a better comparison.

It's all subjective. We'll have to disagree about the Libertines, punk comes in different forms and while they're no Sex Pistols "What A Waster" is about as punk as you can get. Garage Punk is a pretty fair description though.

As for Black Flag/Nirvana without the former the latter wouldn't have existed. What's Indie Rock? Something influenced by punk surely? I started going off BF soon after Rollins joined, I didn't like the stop start grunge of songs like Black Coffee, Damaged 2, etc. These are the songs which influenced Nirvana, not their earlier one and a half minute thrash of the turn of the 70's/80's.

Black Flag is an influential band, but I don't see Nirvana being derivative of them at all. I'd say they sound like they were much more influenced by acts like Sonic Youth, The Pixies and The Vaselines.

Surely some indie rock is influenced by punk rock, but listening to Nirvana I just don't hear a strong hard core punk influence. They're much more melodic and poppy than Black Flag ever were or probably wanted to be. Looking a bit further back, to me Nirvana sounds more like they were influenced by The Beatles than The Stooges. As for Black Flag, I'd say the complete opposite.

Nirvana were heavily influenced by Killing Joke and Corbain said he was surprised and pleased that they never got sued for ripping off the start of Eighties by Killing Joke and the start of Come As You Are.

Yeah, that's true. They did rip off Eighties for that song, but he did also say that he felt he was ripping off the Pixies for some of the stuff on Nevermind (he probably named a song, but I can't remember which one it was) as well.

5 pages and no one's mentioned Nickelback yet. Quite surprised.

Not saying I dislike them, I actually am a fan of them.

I'm not a fan of any band that screams and growls through each song. I don't mind partial amounts of screaming ie Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory/Meteora) or Of Mice and Men (Restoring Force : Full Circle) where the clean vocals are primary and the screaming adds a nice kick.

I don't like Muse, their music isn't enjoyable for me. Too dark and depressing.

I don't like Foo Fighters. The songs are good, I just don't like Dave 'Growls' voice. Except in Learn to Fly. I love that song.

Don't like the Beatles either.

Plenty more that I'll probably add later.

Maybe it was too obvious and people thought it goes without saying... :happy001:

And you?

Yes, I do find it rather bizarre, that someone can start a topic but not contribute themselves?

Judging by other threads, John T likes to ask the questions but won't give the answers!

I don't mind Coldplay, as Nibs said I also like some of the Rolling Stones' early stuff but otherwise I'm rather indifferent. Thoughts on Green Day?

Negative!

I've always been so into British bands that I've just not really liked any American bands, with the only exception being Kings of Leon. Love (trying) to sing along to some of their stuff!

Loved their old stuff from Kerplunk to Warning.

I thought American Idiot was not bad.

Their last two albums (21st Century Breakdown and the trilogy albums) were pretty meh though.

I was quite a crazy fan back in the early 2000s. I was even lucky enough to given a Dookie vinyl record signed by Billie Joe himself and a guitar pick

Thoughts on Green Day?

I did listen to them for a while when I was 16 (around the time Dookie was released) and had everything up to (and including) Dookie on cassette tapes, but I got bored of them pretty quickly and found other bands who did what they do much better. By the time Insomniac was released I had "moved on". I don't think I ever had it even on a cassette tape and I don't think I've listened to any of their albums after Dookie all the way through. I guess I should thank Green Day (and Millencolin) for covering Operation Ivy, though, because that's how I found Operation Ivy. Still one of my all time favourites.

Thoughts on Green Day?

My favourite 'band' - Nimrod probably in my top 3 albums ever... maybe more for sentiments than track quality though(!).
