Think the Welsh FA wanted the match moved to a bigger ground to accommodate the anticipated large crowd. Dodgy penalty alright!
October 12, 20241 yr The referee had a clear view of the incident. How he thought it was the Welsh defenders arm I’ll never know!

I have to admit it wasn't until the papers the next day pointed it out , I thought it was a Welsh player, they didn't even seem to protest that much either! I wonder what the TV pundits said afterwards about it....the commentator was convinced " that's as clear a handball as there ever was !" Well he was technically correct about that I suppose.! Nothing like the scenes on the old terraces for goal celebrations compared to all seaters was there.

October 13, 20241 yr 1949 FA Cup semi final between Man United and Wolves played at obviously Sheffield Wednesday. 1-1 AET. The replay at Goodison was won by Wolves 1-0 who went on to beat Leicester City 3-1 at Wembley. Look close around 27 seconds.

October 16, 20241 yr The Bonnie Prince for Scotland against Portugal. He really should have won at least double his final total of full Scotland caps.

Went there a couple of times in the early seventies. A rough place. In the mid to late seventies there was an episode of Panorama on BBC TV and it was about the hooligan gangs at Millwall. One of the leaders was Harry the Dog and I think one of the gangs was called F Troop.

One of our young youth players , Bobby Isaac went to the Den with his mates to watch us play them in a night game in 1984. They were stopped near the ground by a Millwall mob who asked him the name of their keeper. Isaac said afterwards that he actually knew the answer but was so nervous he couldn't get it out He was slashed from shoulder to waist through his leather jacket and got 55 stitches. The doctors reckon the thickness of the jacket saved his life. There was a picture at the time of the injury, it was f**king awful.

I've had a look at the international appearances at a number of Scottish wingers in the last sixty years i.e. Charlie Cooke, Pat Nevin, Davie Cooper, Willie Johnston, Davie Wilson, Willie Henderson, Jimmy Johnstone and John Robertson. Not one of them played more than 30 times for Scotland. Criminal given how talented they were. All bar two of them played for Chelsea or Rangers. Just proves how biased I am! Saying that I have to admit that Jinky was a fine player. Cooper and Nevin are probably the last two outstanding Scottish wingers.

I was at the game, " you'll never play for Chelsea" belted out after the OG. ! For me , it was the first time I wasn't worried about going a goal down, we were on the way to greatness by then . . A great day, Cardiff was a top city for hosting finals.
