I always thought George Wood was better. Yeah he probably was to be honest. I think had he had been of a better standard, then surely an English Div 1 team of the time would have signed him. He played in the same Partick Thistle team as Alan Hansen, before Hansen was signed by Liverpool in summer of 1977. I'm not for a second suggesting that Liverpool should have signed Rough ! Ray Clemence was their keeper at the time remember !!

Me, my two sisters and our parents were on holiday in Scotland and were staying at my Dad's parents in Larkhall. One day we had gone up to Loch Lomond for the day and on the way back went through Glasgow to visit Ibrox. My Dad had to stop and ask for directions. The person he stopped to ask was an off-duty copper. Copper said, I'll show the way. My Mum got into the back street with us kids so the copper could get into the passenger seat. My Dad was worried as he had been drinking. I think the copper ignored the fact as one of the reasons he offered to help was to get home. They could be friendly and helpful if you knew them... My old man also seemed to play bowls and 'have a pint' with half the local police force !
June 13, 20206 yr Thought I'd post this, since we are in the middle of June. That coffee is strong this morning...

Remember watching that on match of the day at the time, it became a bit of a craze down the park, leaning to one side to put the penalty taker off. My last season playing was 2005, at 36 I was oldest in team and we had a penalty shoot out in the cup, for the pens, I did the old Paul Cooper leaning to one side, I remember hearing the youngsters on both sides saying "what the f**ks that old boy doing in goal?" They were obviously all to young to have seen Paul Cooper, it worked we won!!

Still think he was very unfortunate not to win at least one full England cap and also not to be in an Ipswich Town League Championship Winning Team. Looking back 1980/81 was their best chance. Mind you Paul Cooper was Sylvester Stallone's 'stand in in 'Escape to Victory'. I still look out for Ipswich results. Theirs and Carlisle's are the two lower League sides I keep an eye on.
