May 16, 20179 yr Not to bring anyone down or critisize Conte but we won the title just two seasons ago with the same core and most of the same players. The lads could still remember how it is done. If you think of Spurs those lads have no idea how to win a trophy or a title. However Conte made the perfect tweaks, brought in the right players and setup us brilliantly. He also wiped out all the crap Jose left lying around. On top of that we have looked so good almost all the season. Balanced, pacy and willing to thunder forward. First is the best! CL victory was one of the best moments in my life so I can't really compare that to Prem.

Now we're on the verge of the double, which is amazing. What a difference a year makes, indeed. I understand and agree with your thoughts, though really torn between 2004-05 and 2016-17, especially if we go on and win the double. It has been a great year for me as a supporter. I am a lifelong Cubs fan (many tough years as we all know) and I noticed your Avatar. 2016-17 has been my best year as a fan ever with Cubs and Chelsea taking titles. I have been fortunate that I have taken my girls (ages 11 and 9) to Wrigley Field last year for a game and this year to the Bridge. Truly great memories for me and them. It has really been interesting being called a fair weather or plastic fan wearing Cubs or Chelsea gear. If they could only understand all the long years I have been through. It has just all come together this year.

I'm going to a game this season, and I hope to go to another Chelsea match soon. One day, I may even bring my godson to a game. Yes, those wilderness years Cub fans have endured, of being the laughingstocks of baseball. A huge weight was lifted off our collective shoulders, but hopefully they can get it together and make the playoffs.

On top of that we have looked so good almost all the season. Balanced, pacy and willing to thunder forward. Tactically, Conte was a brilliant manager this season but his ability to get this group playing with confidence again was the most outstanding feature of the season. Let's not forget that last season this squad was mentally gone after a terrible season and with an illustrious manager sacked. They were broken lost complete confidence in themselves. Even at the start of the season, Conte admitted that the squad was a fragile unit, but he could see massive potential if they got their heads right. When Conte's tactical methods started working, most notably implementing the successful 3-4-3 formation, the players then started to believe in his methodology and style of football. Even in September last year, the squad looked fragile mentally. Edited May 22, 20179 yr by Jezz
May 22, 20179 yr Been thinking about this ever since this thread was created ... I think I have to go with the 2016/17 title ... as it was the most unexpected after what happened last year, plus all the fanfare regarding Mourinho and Guardiola at United and City respectively, and where we were performance-wise before Conte switched to the three at the back system. 2004/5 was great, being the first title for 50 years and all that, but it was always on the cards for me with the resources that Roman threw at it, and as a natural progression from Roman's first season with Claudio in charge ...

Had supported Chelsea since 1974/75 so winning it for the first time in 2004/05 was special. This one, I will admit, has been very special after all we went through last season.

Absoluitely should have been a canter, but for some reason the tactics changed right after we battered Swansea 5-0 and the team seemed to lose confidence as a result. Fortunately the defence was strong enough to win 10 and draw 5 of those 16 games but it was hardly impressive football like we have seen this season.
May 22, 20179 yr 04/05 will always be the best for me. This one does feel special as well.. Conte is such a passionate guy and I think he will achieve great things here.
May 22, 20179 yr I definitely agre the unexpectedness of this title win has been a great contributing factor in it been one of the best. It's been superb and as someone said before if we make it a double its going to make this a hard sesson to top in many ways. If I have one issue about our lst double (God that makes me sound spoilt) it's that we only won the FA Cup final 1-0 when we should have had about 4-6 goals in that game. Add to that Lamps missing a pen it definitely took a little bit of the shine off that cup win. Still amazing though.
