October 9, 20187 yr The Fulham match was brilliant of course, one of the best that season. Seeing the Cardiff match coming up reminded me once again of the lad who died at Huddersfield. The club held a minute's silence before kick off and Cardiff sang all the way through it. I was in Gate 13 so very close to them. The boys in there were not best pleased. The second the silence ended there was some serious vitriol hurled their way. I know it wasn't but I always like to think that some of what happened at Ninian Park later that season was payback for that. A scummy thing to do.

Amongst a group of footy friends that frequented a Chelsea London pub was one that had got Argentina in the works world cup sweepstakes. Anyway with the way the cup went England faced Argentina and when the Argies scored this chap cheered a bit too loudly and was taken out and given a good pasting by several top chaps.

At the top it used to be generally us, Newcastle, Leeds and West Ham. Narrowly avoided a friendly fire incident at Forest in 97, when a man mountain was lining me up for a dig. Think he got his collar felt after the Cardiff game a few years back.

In 2002 I was working at Canary Wharf during the World Cup. There was a Celtic supporting steel erector who was so anti English he bought the replica tops of our group stage opponents- Sweden, Nigeria, and Argentina ( must have cost him a few bob) On the day of the Sweden game I remember advising him to be careful what pub he was watching the game in- “ nae bother” he replied. Turns out his shirt got ripped off his back within 5 minutes of kick off!
