Gary Locke scored with an absolute screamer in the top corner. Disappointed to drop points in this one. Dont remember too much about this one

Forgot that Gary Locke was still around then. He put in a decent shift ( 74-83)

Went on to Palace. There was a mini production line of ex players who went there in the 70s and 80s. Cooke, Kember, Droy, Locke etc etc.

A fair sprinkling moved to  QPR and Brighton as well.

Swansea City 1-3 Chelsea

Good to get back on track with this away win.

We are up to second place with this win.

Pascoe scored for them in the 33rd minute.

It was watched by 7,849 at the Vetch Field.

Next up is Leeds away (!) on Saturday, 26th November 1983.

Saturday, 26th November 1983 at 3pm.

Leeds Utd 1-1 Chelsea

King Kerry Dixon scored for us in the 58th min, Equalising McCluskey's goal scored in the 46th min.

We are still 2nd.

Looking at the Leeds side they certainly had lots of experience.

They had a couple of former Scottish international players in David Harvey in goal, Frank Gray at left back (his brother Eddie was their manager) and Kenny Burns at centre back.

Peter Barnes the former Man City and England winger was their No 11 that day.

It watched by 20,680, who surprisingly saw no sending offs !

Next up is Man City at The Bridge on Sat 3rd Dec 1983. Another tough one this one !

Was in the seats for Leeds. One of the all time great One Man Went to Mows early in the lfirst half.

Saying that, all the best OMWTM’s were early doors....

I know what you mean. I was in the seats, back then people on the terraces would try and crouch down and stand up when we got to ten!! This game I went by coach and had to wait just off the Motorway for all the other coaches from different supporters clubs to arrive. There were over 40 coaches,  We had about six police outriders that stopped all the exits on the roundabouts so we stayed together also we went through red lights as well. Looked impressive with all the flags in the windows.

Went to one leeds v chelsea game back in division 2 .it could be the one where chelsea was in the stand alongside the touch line in the corner as there was  over 5000 there in my book.

Got on the inter city 125 from londonKX which stopped at donny, with not a facking donnywhite in sight.the train was rammed full with chelsea and there was lads even laid up in the above luggage racks.

i managed to get sat on a table with me back against the widow ,you could not swing a cat in our or any carriage.

as the train pulled into Wakefield west gate there was 3 leeds lads throwing what we thought was bricks at our train.them bricks  turned out to be petrol bombs as they exploded against the widow that I was sat against.

woosh wooosh wooosh was the sound within some smash smash smash as glass hit train window.nowt bad happened as Iam still here along sh*t loads of other chelsea who was in that carriage.

the 3 leeds lads ran off into a near by pub where the landlord over heard them bragging about what they had just done to the >>> chelsea service train <<< ,landlord called the police who came in and nicked the 3 leeds lads .

they all was up in court and got sent down. with one of the Leeds chaps hanging himself in Preston prison.

by time our train pulled into dirty leeds station the window and door way on the outside was black bright.

Still get goose pimples remembering classic OMWTM’s.

In terms of fanpower I really do think we were number one in the country, which probably peaked in 84.

No one else sung as loud and our back catologue of classic chants. Remember some of the Chelsea, Chelsea. ( tune to amazing grace), that went on for twenty minutes plus. ( good one of those for the Munich QF game at the old Olympic  Stadium in 2005.)

More often than lot we were a sh*t team with the best fans.

MK Blue mentioned how in 77 he’d just left school and able to indulge more- I think for a lot of us they were the best days of our lives- dressing up peacocks- away days were a full days entertainment then you’d go on to nightclubs, football club discos. Happy times....

Chelsea 0 - 1  Man City

Sat 3rd Dec 1983 at The Bridge.

Disappointing loss.

Tolmie scored for them just before half time, in front of 29,142.

City had 5 Scots in their side that day. One was one of my childhood Rangers heroes Derek Parlane and another was a very good Scottish midfielder Asa Hartford .

Hartford I think won over 50 caps for Scotland. He certainly played in both the 1978 and 1982 World Cup Finals.

Incidentally, Jim Tolmie their scorer, was a one time Greenock Morton team mate of our centre half Joe McLaughlin.

Next up, is Swansea at The Bridge on Tuesday 6th December.

Was that the 3-3 draw the year before?

For life of me I can’t recall the score of the game ,but I do know that wham were staying in the queens hotel on the Friday night according to local west yorks rozzers as they held the escort back for some mins while the wham lot were driving out of the hotel.

this was the most amount of chelsea that I have ever seen at elland road that was for sure.i doubt many top ranking teams in division back then lpool,Spurs, west ham,or whoever would have taken 5000 + to Leeds Leeds Leeds for a div 1 game never mind a div 2 fixture.

i guess man utd would have been only team to match Chelsea’s numbers that day.

From what I've read and seen over the years we were the only team that rivalled United in numbers and we were division two

Everytime I read these scores and write ups I start thinking what I was doing back then, then a tune of the day comes into my head, if we've got this till next may Ersk I think I may end needing to see a shrink!

I do humbly apologise !

If it's any consolation. I often go down memory lane and sometimes wonder what happened to those I was friendly with back then and some of them I haven't seen for years.

Billy Joel was No 1 with Uptown Girl on 3rd Dec 1983.

Don't worry, I'm not going to include the weeks No1s from that season in this thread !

On a Saturday afternoon before the 3pm games start I have radio 2 on, between 1 till 3 they have top 20's from yesterday year, a couple of weeks ago it was November 1983! Those old songs playing and memories came flooding back of speedie leaping and flicking the ball on to King Kerry, or wee Pat tormenting a full back.

Brilliant !

Same with me, if I'm working a 'back shift' and it finishes at 10pm on a Friday night, I'll have radio 2 on with ' Sounds of the 80s'.

It's my required listening on a Friday night after a 'back shift'.

Confession time.

Yesterday at work I was slightly bored (allegedly !) and began scrawling 'John Neal's Blue and White Army' a few times on a piece of paper.

Then I wrote out our team and sub with Nos 1-12 from that season on the same piece of paper.

I laughed when I realised what I'd done:biggrin:

It took me back to my school jotter cover scrawlings from back in that season.

Barnsley 0-0 Chelsea

Saturday, 10th December 1983 at 3pm

I'll be surprised if anyone remembers much, if anything about this game to be honest !

They were managed by Norman Hunter.

10,300 saw it. We're still 2nd in Div 2.

Next up is Grimsby at the Bridge on Sat 17th Dec 83.

We talk to former Chelsea player Paul Canoville about his Q&A event with Pat Nevin, Kerry Dixon, Mickey Thomas and Big Doug Rougvie and also about that famous 1983-84 season when Chelsea won the old Division 2 to get back to Division 1.

Wasn’t there but went to Oakwell the year before in November 83. Remember it because it was my 17th birthday and I was wearing a green blue and black diamond Pringle I’d just bought from a golf shop in South Croydon.
