I have been thinking about the coincidence of these two home games yet ,amazingly , played 35 years apart ! OUR Team of 1983-86, is to us, the most iconic Chelsea team. Right I'll look out my retro home top for that season ...

February 25, 20197 yr Imo in the terrace days we always had better away support than at home..apart from several clubs at the bridge that chelsea turned up for anyone outside of these could have taken the shed. .it certainly was fun tho at every ground in div two.. have to say tho or suggest that not all those so called low gates at the bridge were accurate..i was at one particular match that claimed 12000 plus...it was so obvious just by a quick estimate that another several thousand were left off the official count..great days tho

February 25, 20197 yr Author Derek Johnstone made his debut for us as a sub in the 77th minute for Tony McAndrew v Carlisle. He had been bought from Glasgow Rangers for £25,000 in the summer of 1983 and had been loaned back to his boyhood team of Dundee Utd. He had been a teenage sensation. He'd scored the winner for Rangers against Celtic in the 1970 League Cup Final aged just 16 ! Then played at Centre Half in the Rangers European Cup Winners Cup wining side of 1972. His best ever season was 1977/78 when he scored 39 domestic goals for Rangers and another2 for Scotland. He also played Centre Half for Scotland against England at Wembley in 1973 and came on as a sub in the 1976 Scotland v England game at Hampden as a striker !

Yes can remember him coming on, he couldn't of played many games though, as THAT team were pretty settled.
February 26, 20197 yr Not the best trainer in the world apparantly. Did a bunk from pre season training on the sand dunes and got a taxi back to the hotel by all accounts.

Never knew he'd done a bunk pre season at the sand dunes. He certainly never did that with Jock Wallace at Rangers !

March 4, 20197 yr Author The goals from the Oldham game on 3rd March 1984. MOTD and John Motson commentating. Up here in Scotland it was a genuine treat to see any footage of any Chelsea game back then. That's why I still don't take the extensive live games and highlights we now get ( and have had for a few years !)
March 4, 20197 yr Author That's why it was great back then, when the bbc showed the Man City away game in early May 84 on a Friday night live. Was this the first Chelsea league game shown live ?
