I reckon it must of been, bloody great that was, not just seeing the team, but also the nation seeing and hearing our mighty away support that night

The goals from the Oldham game on 3rd March 1984.

MOTD and John Motson commentating.

Up here in Scotland it was a genuine treat to see any footage of any Chelsea game back then.

That's why I still don't take the extensive live games and highlights we now get ( and have had for a few years !)

Watching those goals again, it just seems like yesterday!! " During the war"

Newcastle Utd 1-1 Chelsea

Saturday 10th March 1984 at 15:00.

Our scorer: David Speedie in the 52nd minute.

Watched by 36,506.

Still top of Division 2.

Their scorer was Terry McDermott ,who with Keegan had played in the 1977 Liverpool European Cup winning side.

Also in this side were Peter Beardsley and Chris Waddle.

Next up is a home game on Friday 16th March at The Bridge kick off is 7,30 pm.

We're playing  Blackburn Rovers.

The goals. 'Northern Life' TV news report of the game. Only 1min and 23 secs.

Remember being impressed by the noise the Gallogate End made despite it being open to the elements. ( Always felt sorry for clubs that had no roof on the home ends - Newcastle, Sheff Wed, Palace)

Saw some very pissed locals wearing black and white kilts, which we found amusing.

Bumped into my cousin up there who was part of the Mitcham/ Morden firm. KG was their main man. Apparantly it had gone off in Chinatown; a few of them looked pretty bashed up

Remember this one, not sure why it was a Friday night, but my old man drove up, we got stuck in the Friday night traffic over Wandsworth bridge and missed the kick off, if I remember right, Southampton v Liverpool was on TV that night and Danny Wallace scored an overhead kick. Uncle Ken was amazed with our attendance considering live game on TV which was very unusual in those days. 35 years ago!!

Even though the crowds were much smaller, more people used to drive to the games back then- you could park up anywhere pretty much, first come first served.

We come over Wandsworth Bridge once, were backed up on Trinity Road, a Granada tried cutting across us and a mate wasn’t letting him in- next thing the bloke starts waving a hammer out the window...

Agreed re the live tv games being unusual back then. Think this might only have been the second season that live League games were shown live ?

Amazingly only the Final of the 1984 European Championships tournament was shown live on bbc television that summer.

As no home nations had qualified all we got was highlights on the evening at about 10,30 pm !

Great day at ninian park in 84!! Watch the YouTube clips of the game. The  home end under cover becomes full of Chelsea by full time. During the clips you can see Chelsea in the paddock and seats moving towards the home end, with some going along the pitch!

Sunderland and Bolton. Had the pleasure of being cold or soaking wet at both of these!
