Did he consult? I never saw a sign of VAR on screen. As far as I know refs can make decisions without VAR if they want. A.k.a if they are stupid.

As far as I can see they interpret the rules on VAR differently from here. Here the refs consult VAR on all penalties and stick with the VAR verdict. It seems in Europe they don't.

I'm fed up with VAR in its current form.

Valencia's pen was a foul on Jorge and they didn't see it so  what's better. Human error still occurs so why not do away with the 3 min delays?

I know we havent been affected for a few weeks, bug just seen linaker post this on Twitter, which shows how ridiculous it is to chalk of goals for extremely marginal VAR offsides.

Theres been some crazy ones over the weekend, i really think they need to leave it to the linesman, and only overule if there is a clear and obvious error.

I think the players should time their runs better. I don't like the way they check it with a ruler type thing that takes time but if a player is ahead he is ahead end of story.

People will get used to this in time. I still think it is 100 times better than before where we can see from the replays someone was clearly offside.

People are used to moaning and this is what people now moan about.

I don't like the sentiment of old and romantic because it is a false sentiment. Be a bit more patient.

Yeah but the technology being used doesnt prove anything. VAR for offsides isnt accurate, and depending how fast players are moving, it can be wildly inaccurate.

So a player could time his run to perfection and still be given as offside, because of the technology. 

Goal line technology works because they have a 100% accurate system in place. Its black and white. 

Offside is not black and white, it never has been, level used to be onside, there was also the 'daylight' system that never really came to fruition. 

The trouble with offside is that the actually kicking of a football isnt instantaneous. The milliseconds in the whole striking the ball process, can be the difference of a few centimeters in an attackers stride. At what point is the ball considered to be 'passed'? 

Its a grey area that sounds miniscule, but when players are being called for bring 2 or 3 cms offside, i think its an issue.

I recent years FIFA tried to encourage more attacking play by giving the advantage to the attacker if the players were level. However with the way VAR is being applied in the Premier League that advantage is lost. The player now has to be mathematically onside and that ultimately means they will no longer risk leaving that margin so close. This effectively eliminates the advantage FIFA were aiming for.

I have several issues with VAR. If the technology is so reliable and effective why is it taking minutes to make these decisions? If it is that close then the decision on the field can't have been bad. Also there is still way too much room for inconsistency. When our goal against Liverpool was disallowed they went back a long way into the passage of play to make the decision. Yet yesterday if they went back one more pass surely they would have determined Van Dyk handled the ball?

I think most fans want to see the obvious onfield errors sorted out, but the delays in making decisions, and the minute margins being used, are counterproductive and destroying the flow of games.

I don't know why the clear and obvious thing isn't applied to offsides. Some of them are so tight that it's taking them up to 5 minutes to get a decision right. If it's taking that long, then they can't be sure, so they should just go with the original decision.

IMHO VAR is not implemented correctly by the FA. Here is an example from Liverpool vs Wolves & The Liga MX Gran Finale

In the Liverpool vs Wolves match the goal was assisted by Lallana use of a arm/shoulder pass.

VAR looked at the play & The Remote Refs deemed it wasn't an handball.

In LigaMX Gran Finale, the ball hit Richard Sanchez on his left arm

The Remote refs looked at the play, but the Center Judge gets to make the final decision. IMHO this is how VAR should be implemented.

They get it wrong here and there as we have seen. It could be very close. It takes away the blatant fouls and gives interesting information about something the eye fails to register.

Problem is different set of rules and they don't tell the viewers exactly how the rulings go. It takes some time and honing. Would love some of the refs explain everything.

All in all it is a good thing. Would love it if they gave divers suspensions retrospectively. That is one real problem in the game. They could use that technology for it.
