Regardless of our form football behind closed doors is frankly dull I watch Chelsea and that's it. If sporting events such as the Euro's have to be scrapped so be it. I know some fans will watch football regardless and I've no problem with that but as a couple of old boys it's totally alien to us even though some of our crowds in the 80's were almost like playing behind closed doors ! 7 hours ago, dkw said: Circuit break = Dubai friendlies... 3 hours ago, Valerie said: However much I support the f**k Sam and Ole thing, and however much I enjoy football as a distraction (well, perhaps not every match...), I would like to look at a bigger picture than a congested fixtures list Big money obviously won when last season was resumed and when the current season got the go-ahead. In terms of health it's preposterous. Having changing rooms on opposite side of the stadium, disinfecting goal posts, and other safety measures are completely ridiculous and sanctimonious when players run side by side, throttle each other in the 16-yard box and roll around in each other's phlegm on the pitch. Regular testing won't prevent the possibility that infected players and staff come into close contact in a stadium and at the training ground. They have a life outside football too, many have kids, increasing the chance they and others get infected, and everybody in their turn infect others. When amateur football and other close proximity sports aren't allowed because of the risks, it's incomprehensible that professional football is allowed, with every injured player that should be examined in hospital an added burden on public health care. I'm not sure there is still an ambulance and attendants present at every match, but if there is, that is just cringe worthy. Although 100% safety doesn't exist for people participating in society, professional footbal doesn't even try to be responsible during a pandemic. Rant over, sort of. @chi blue You raise a good point about a two week shut-down as it will give the authorities time to consider what is happening. I watched the Press Conference earlier today and given the approval of the new vaccine it is going to take a good while yet before we can even start to consider a level of normality and dare I say it football and sport in general is not a top priority. As you have mentioned I couldn't really care where we finish in the league. I've far more important things to worry about. The older I get the less important football is to me. Yes, I miss going to the Bridge but can cope and like you I normally get over a loss or bad performance in a short while. Back in the day I would have lost it. I do miss meeting up with the guys I go to the games with. @bluehaze As you and others have mentioned if the Euros and other internationals have to be scrapped so be it. Sadly, there are too many organisations with a vested interest in those events going ahead. With so many countries introducing travel restrictions - and they could be in place for some time - can internationals and indeed competitions such as the Champions League and Europa League go ahead. Watching football on TV at the moment is dull. The crowd noise is poor. Having songs associated with clubs being played would help. I've watched some Rangers games and one of that club's anthems Follow Follow is played. The crap commentary doesn't help. @dkwhopefully no clubs will use a break to go overseas but what's the betting they will. @Valerie You're right, big money was the reason for the season re-starting back in June and I reckon that big money and those with it will try their very best to stop another one. I'm a cynical bastard. As you mentioned amateur sports are suffering a hell of a lot and they must be thoroughly pissed off when top flight football and other sports goes ahead. It's interesting that in rugby union two clubs were awarded victories when their opponents couldn't field a team. Can you imagine that happening in the PL. There would be a riot. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/55467346 Rant over! KTBFFH
December 30, 20205 yr If they stop the football then what am I going to do at 3pm 12:30pm 5:30pm 8pm on a Saturday Sunday Monday evening. f**k it, just stop the football for a bit please. Edited December 30, 20205 yr by bluedave

I mean look at examples our squad being 'close' to it. Kai almost certainly had a pre symptomatic dose of Covid when we played Burnley (he tested positive like 2/3 days later then got ill quite badly) yet none of the other boys got it themselves, we played Newcastle just before a few of them got it and all our lot 'escaped' unscathed. I don't think any of our lot got it from CHO last March either.

I don't think any of our lot got it from CHO last March either. I meant that at Christmas more players may have been infected by family and friends, but that would be yet to show from tests. Even when players and staff all followed the rules (let's be charitable ) they can still be infected by a fluke or some other trait of the virus we don't yet know about. Our club has been very lucky that CHO and Havertz didn't spread it BTW. Edited December 31, 20205 yr by Valerie

There you go @Valerie, I've fixed that for you. We have just gone up to very nearly 1000 deaths a day again, and I can see no possible reason for football to be exempted from the regulations, other than greed.

When CHO and Kai probably had the strain that wasn’t as infectious, unfortunately it seems to be the new strain spreading like wildfire throughout the country. Have you never played Plague Inc?
