As soon as I heard that Newcastle were interested, I said yes straight away because they pay such big wages

there, that makes much more sense

It is a fairly standard statement that the vast majority of players make when they move clubs. I am not going to knock Geremi, he served us well whilst he was with us and never grumbled about lack of first team opportunity or demanded a transfer. A solid professional.

agree with loz. when you look at how he conducted himself the time he had with us compared to certain others (cough gallas cough) i hope he does well at newcastle, and im sure he`ll get a decent welcome back at the bridge.

Ifeel that some of us who are laughing at Newcastle not being a big club may need to take a step back and realize taht this would be like us getting annoyed at a scoucer saying we have no history. Is it, like the Scoucers try and make us feel, because they have no silverware?

Newcastle Sunderland is a huge rivalry, and Newcastle are a big club, with many supporters, and their stadium is often filled or near to capacity. Even when they are winning nothing. I think so people that come to Chelsea these days could do with learning a thing or two about newcastle fan's passion for their club!

We have to cut sergey some slack, our non-Brit fans don't always know much about other clubs and rivalries. Call it Johny come lately or whatever but if you look at what Newcastle has done in say the last five years, you wouldn't really call them a big club.

Let's not get into this "they're a big club/what makes a big club" crap. I for one am so bored with listening to the likes of Adrian Durham spouting their idiotic opinions, along the lines of "you can't be a big club unless you've won the Champions League". Which would make, for instance ... Glasgow Rangers a small club? Yeah I know, it's laughable.

Agreed Lofty - for me there is no such thing as big clubs and small clubs, to any true football fan their club is the biggest in the world. What it basically boils down to is that there are only three types of club.

Type 1 - Chelsea'

Type 2 - The majority of the rest

Type 3 - Spurs, Liverpool, Leeds and West Ham i.e those you would enjoy seeing bankrupt

How do you define a 'Big Club'?

The amount of revenue from shirts, mugs, bags, et all?

The amount of trophies they win?

OR the amount of fans who turn up to see them come rain or shine. Trophies or no?

By the latter reckoning I'd say Newcastle are plenty big.

From what I`ve read here and I read a lot - it tells me something:

No, Loz, I don`t think somebody is put in doubt Geremi`s contribution to Chelsea or his professionalism. In this department he is(was) one of best in Chelsea (Robben is his anti-pod).

And I can say I like Newcastle. I think it`s a great club, I always decide to watch Newcastle if I have an opportunity. (Also BB, Everton, `big 4` and sometimes Aston Villa).

The only thing I`m little confused of is Geremi`s comments like :"As soon as I heard that Newcastle were interested, I said yes straight away......"

It sounds like he`s throwing stone in Mourinho`s garden.

I`m under the impression Mourinho had sexual harassments to Geremi. And finally Geremi is the happiest man, leaving this `hell`.

But, excepting last issue, I agree he`s great PLAYER and a solid professional.

Good luck to him!

You cant expect Geremi to say anything different. I like Geremi and Newcastle have long been many fans 'second' team. They are a massive club no doubt about it. Personally i'd like to see him and them do well(not of course at our expense) but maybe a cup or something i think the geordie's deserve it.

Although saying that i hope the boardroom stops seeing them as a second club, they have picked up the likes of Parker,Duff and Geremi for peanuts from us.

My interpretation of Geremi saying '"As soon as I heard that Newcastle were interested, I said yes straight away......" is that of a player who had been told he was free to find a new club and this was his reaction when Newcastle happened to be that new club.

i.e. he wasn't saying he preferred Newcastle to Chelsea, he was saying that Chelsea were releasing him and he was delighted when a club the size of Newcastle gave him an opportunity.
