I think he'll do better this season, certainly if the 442 is kept (more opportunities, and more service possible).

I hope that this time he and ballack have had to rest and recover from the niggling injuries and operations will help them when they come back.

I don't think he'll play enough games this year to have any sort of an impact; old, injured, unhappy, unsettled...........

if we're playing two up front then there are 4 players fighting for two positions...

worth remembering injuries in wide positions would see kalou playing there, making that 3 strikers for 2 positions AND there is the ANC.

I'm only worried that maybe one or two central midfielders will not get enough games, out of all of our squad.

diarra looks in real trouble, for example.

Diarra has his whole career in front of him and does not need to play in every game available (which I'm hoping Jose has pointed out to him) and his time will come. The same can not be said for Sheva.

I felt sorry for Sheva last season i had always wanted to see him at Chelsea and the media and other fans were glad to see him fail. And despite the fee we paid 13 or 14 goals wasnt as bad return as the media would make out IMO. Hopefully this season he'l get better service and the system were currently using might suit him more.

4 golas in the EPL was not good enough.

I was going to have a punt on him for top goal scorer this season but as it stands i dont think he's going to be able to overcome the injurys to put enough games together

can i throw sutton into the mix. he looked the dogs when we signed him, had a shocking debut, then got progressively worse. nugents debut at pompey remninded me of suttons. missed some one on ones with the keeper, then fell over.

After the day I've been having today, I quite identify with his problems icon_sad.gif

If he gets enough time to recover and play some reserve matches to get match practice, I'm sure we can expect to see some good moments from him. Please god 128.gif ?

I was about to post something similar but add "skint" into the equation!

Skint, yes, definitely skint. icon_sad.gif

the guy isn't 18- he's how old now? 23 this season? he's not scott sinclair's age, and he hasn't played more than maybe 6 or 7 games in the position he supposedly is meant to play.

that isn't a good thing. nor is the amount of games he's played in his career, I'd imagine.

care to explain why he is still at the club and not playing for Arsenal.

for the sake of this discussion maybe, but you and I know if he was not valued and was epected to make a contribution to the team, this season and seasons to come, he would not be at the club now, contract or no contract, it's hardly unusual for a player to be sold during the time he is under contract, in fact it's the norm.

my point is, that having played about 7 games for us as a defensive midfielder over the course of your cfc career is not a good thing. it would be okay if you were 18, but at 22/ 23 you should be looking for regular football. the only regular football diarra has had was a run of around 10 games at rightback. (not his position). we know diarra has already complained about lack of games, and being behind lamps, essien, sidwell and likely ballack and maka is not a good news for diarra, particularly when our preferred system so far has only 2 rather than 3 places to fight for. (last season, there was always at least 3 positions to fight for, and often 4 with the diamond).

hence:

I'm only worried that maybe one or two central midfielders will not get enough games, out of all of our squad.

diarra looks in real trouble, for example.

he is at the club because jose rates him,and because he will get games at rightback if alves doesn't join- so he's useful to jose. but 10-15 games at rightback over the course of a season won't help a 23 year old defensive midfielder to progress as a player much, so that's why I think the main reason he's still with us is that he's under contract. if he wasn't I have no doubts he'd choose to go elsewhere.

surley come the ANC and Mikel is away this should increase his chances of a run in the first team and as we saw last season, once in he was very hard to leave out.

either way, I still think that Diarra has a brighter future with Chelsea than Sheva.

I'm not convinced he has any future at Chelsea (Diarra that is). As G4 states he is beyond the age where he will be happy with 10-15 games a season and given that Mikel and Essien are well ahead of himin the pecking order (and still young) and Lampard still has a number of years left in him and I am sure Ballack is with us for at least another season, and Maka has not been given an extention t simply pick up a wage packet Diarra must look at his situation and think I am going to be 26 before I even get a decent look in here.

I tink he will be leaving us soon. That may be in January, may be next summer however I would still not be surprised if he was gone by the end of this month (whether that be a loan or a permanent move)

What hurts me is that he's not going to get enough games with us, won't develop, and ultimately will end at Arsenal for free (or peanuts) and make a good Defensive midfielder.

Why haven't we loaned him ? If we were playing on a 433, 442 diamond...wich means 3 or 4 central midfielders...I could even understand. Now playing in a flat 442, with 75 central midfielders for 2 spots (adding the fact of Maka's renovation), what's he doing here ?

LOAN HIM TO...errmm....Pompey ?

P.S. He started for France yesterday on a friendly VS Slovakia (?) in his original position.
