Guest perry
Hello, Sunderland fan here After Jose has left, myself and others on another forum had a little debate about something, so I was wondering if anyone could help. What it's about is who actually signed Robben and Cech. Some say Ranieri signed Cech and Robben and some say Jose signed Robben. For some reason I was led to had believe neither manager signed Cech or Robben, even though Ranieri was in charge when I think the Cech deal was tied up. So can anyone shed any light on the subject ? Cheers for any replies or abuse
Mod
I'm pretty sure Ranieri signed Cech and Robben, or at least the deals was rolling then.

loz
They were signed during Ranieri's reign and thus have to be put down as his signings. Of course you could speculate that they had been identified by someone other than Claudio but that is all it would be, speculation.
BLUENUT
Cech and Robben were signed while Ranieri was manager although they didn't jion with us until the end of that season, once Jose took over. No-one really knows who signed them, Robben was reported on radio as saying Ranieri was a nice man although it's a shame he'd be gone before Robben joined, before it was announced Claudio was leaving/pushed. Guest
He also made alot of our worst signings. I think he just about spent more in the one season he was here post-Abramovich than Mourinho did in the 3 and a bit he was here.
BLUENUT
Ranieri had players forced on him, or bought without asking for them - Veron anyone!! It's been admitted that Claudio didn't want or sign this player. He was unveiled the same day as Joe Cole FFS! I think in 'that' Monaco game it was Claudio's way of sticking 2 finger up at whoever bought him by bringing him on at HT! He also had nothing to do with Cech or Robben, as they knew he would not be manager when they arrived!!!!! We've just lost 1 manager who wasn't happy being handed players, who'd want this job now apart from a mercenary who wants to take Roman to the cleaners? I buy the player's, you find a formation that entertains me!?!?!?!?! That's just not how it works!! The club is a circus!
Pauly
my god.. how can you be so consistently and so far reachingly wrong and... biased!! You are fast becoming my second nemesis: don't tell me you play chess... you: CR: Bad: Everything he did bad: didn't sign any of his players. killed JFK JM: Good: Infallible. midlandblue
There is a massive difference between buying a player and managing a player. My wife recently bought a new car, fantastic value for money, great engine, all mod cons. All in all it's a dream car. But she cant drive for toffe. Pauly
you actually said CR had players bought for him that he didn't want, then i showed you quotes of him going to eindhoven and saying Veron is the best midfielder in the world...... The Brit
if people think claudio signed cech and robben they're as stupid as the people that got rid of our best ever manager and replaced him with a fat nobody
Guest
if people think claudio signed cech and robben they're as stupid as the people that got rid of our best ever manager and replaced him with a fat nobody I guess I am stupid then, because I beleive Claudio did sign Cech and Robben. The Brit
ranieri, lovely bloke, of course is going to try and take credit for two of our best signings and the subsequent success we had, but he was a lame duck in his final season at chelsea just as martin jol is at spurs now...kenyon said himself on this new dvd that within one week of meeting claudio he knew he wasn't the man for the job so do you really believe the club are going to sign two players claudio wants when they want to get rid? Kenyon had targeted robben when he was still at utd, that's why they were so pi**ed off when he ended up at sb cos he stitched them up...cech was also targeted without claudio...there are many question marks over how big a say claudio had over signings when roman came in, but he's hardly going to admit I had nothing to do with chelsea's success is he? german-blue
if people think claudio signed cech and robben they're as stupid as the people that got rid of our best ever manager and replaced him with a fat nobody Isnt it a bit early to judge our manager ? Lets see what he can do and then judge him. He is our new manager and I wouldn?t know a reason why he deserves to be called "fat nobody" !! Pauly
do you really believe the club are going to sign two players claudio wants when they want to get rid? Well they did let him spend.. what was it... 200 other million pounds? just face it brit: repeat after me: Claudio Ranieri Did Some Good Things.. The Brit
Claudio did do some good things, but that's not what this was about, I was just saying signing Cech and Robben wasn't one of them...yes he spent money but that was in the summer not in March when the two deals were done...plus I don't think Claudio did all the work that summer either...roman was going to buy loads of players regardless
