Posted November 19, 200717 yr i know most are focused on the international match v. Croatia this Wednesday, but taking a look ahead at our next premiership match, we travel away to face an awful Derby team. assuming we make it through this next international fixture without further injury, looks like we'll be without the services of Carvalho and Ferreira for sure, and possibly/probably Cech and Terry.
November 21, 200717 yr This is the sort of fixture that, last season, whilst your Liverpools, Arsenals and even flippin' West Hams were banging in 4/5/6, we'd get 1 or 2 and sit back for the rest of the match. Maybe it was tactics, maybe it was because of injuries, maybe it just wasn't in our mindset - but we have got to go out and turn on the style and win this game by as many goals as we can physically get.
November 21, 200717 yr If we decide to go there and put as many past them as possible it will be a very tough day for Derby. Hopefully we will be in Man City mode, but wouldn't be surprised if we only won 1-0

Yep. I remember Birmingham in the 05/06 season. Liverpool beat them by 6 or 7 in the Cup and Man U put three or four past them, and we managed to draw 0-0 with them. But then Man U drew with Sunderland and everything was fine
November 21, 200717 yr We should let some of our profile players rest so others can play. We need to give Sheva, Sidwell and Pizza some time on the pitch. I think we could handle Derby with our number 2 choises. carlo bell-alex-ben-bridge swp-maka-sidwell/lamps-malouda pizza-sheva ..essien, lamps and drogs can come to save us in the end if we still are goalless after an hour.
November 21, 200717 yr ..essien, lamps and drogs can come to save us in the end if we still are goalless after an hour. So you're fearing a dire 1-0 win as well...
November 21, 200717 yr Derby are in trouble and will be going into this with a true underdog spirit, no one expects them to have a hope... I hope we can get our passing game together and show some cohesion, the team needs to develop that sixth sense where they know where each other are instinctively, a good game to show if any improvement is happening yet. I hope with our Defensive injuries and likely relying on Alex and Haim that Carlo is feeling sharp as the knives would be sharper if we leaked a couple to these boys 2-3 would be some good odds though:lol: maybe time for Sheva to get another run out and gain a bit of confidence, maybe a full game for him would tell the Coach if we need a striker in the window or if we can get by without (Anelka Please) I dont expect a rout but will have my usual tenner on us and prob go for 0-3 dependant on the team we put out and if Lamps, Bridge, SWP and Joey are ok after tonight. at this stage even I agree 3 points are whats important
November 21, 200717 yr Given Grant's instructions for entertainment will less that 3 goals be deemed as a faliure?
November 21, 200717 yr Given Grant's instructions for entertainment will less that 3 goals be deemed as a faliure? No, but less than 3 points will.
November 21, 200717 yr Considering what other teams (Liverfool/Spammers) have put past them anything less than 4-0 will be disappointing. I'd like to see Sheva play on Saturday along side Drogba, if he can't score against Derby then it's a sorry state of affairs. I've got £5 on 7-0 at 66/1!! Come on Chelsea, Waffle want's a new iPod!!
November 21, 200717 yr If we play like we did against Man City and Everton i.e. creating a hat load of chances, then we should win this game 4 or 5-0. But knowing us it will probably be a 2-1 win with Derby taking a shock lead. My team: Carlo Beletti Alex JT (back in training so he has a chance of making it) Bridge Lampard Essien Maka (apparently Mikel has an injury) Joe Cole Drogba Kaloooooouuuuuuuuuu Subs: Hilario, Ben Haim, Sidwell, Sheva, Malouda.
November 21, 200717 yr Given Grant's instructions for entertainment will less that 3 goals be deemed as a faliure? Midland answered that one as you yourself did in your earlier post, 3 points is what matters most, Less than 3 points would be a failure in this game, the entertainment promised and hopefully in store for us is not gonna turn on like a lightswitch, we have seen a few changes and we will gradually see more, there will be mistakes made because of the change but less mistakes the more gradually it is implemented. If we win 0-1 and Derby have put in a good performance it will be a success, If they are Crap and we win 0-3 it will be the same success but a bit more goal average. lets not forget Grant has not brought in any players yet to help with any change and he is trying to influence players who have played a certain way for a while to play in the way he is asking them to. Grants Success or failure has to be judged over a far longer run of games, lets just hope we win it for now and keep hanging on to the other two's shirt tails KTBFF
November 21, 200717 yr 3 points suit me, it's just those who were crying for entertainment should surely be crying goals. goals, goals in this fixture, along with the chairman? 3 points away from home will always suit me
November 22, 200717 yr I can see us going with a 4-4-2 with Sheva on, see if he can find more goals against an opposition like Derby. ..............Carlo Beletti...alex..haim...bridge .........Essien...Lamps J Cole......................Malouda .........Sheva....Drogs
November 23, 200717 yr 3 points suit me, it's just those who were crying for entertainment should surely be crying goals. goals, goals in this fixture, along with the chairman?3 points away from home will always suit me Those screaming that they want to see the "new look" Chelsea will surely superfically at least get their fill with a probable goal fest against Derby. Whilst in the past we would have been content to save our energy for the long road ahead, score the odd goal and go home, I'm certain Grant will demand that the team try and grind Derby into the dust, I'm not sure it proves anything much at all other in the general scheme of things than if you take the dog off the leash it will bark more but that's Grant. Not that Grant can say he's done anything that special if we do happen to put 5 or 6 past them even at home. West Ham having already put 5 and Liverpool 6, but I bet you he will talk about it as if he's done something supremely unique which highlights the better way we are playing now and that we are far more "attacking". Another team in crisis, another team in the relegation zone, another slipshod defence with no real attack which should make easy pickings even for our boys still sobbing after crashing out against Croatia, another easy 3 points for Grant and the bandwagon trundles happily along. I know Grant will want a goal fest but I don't care how we get the three points as long as we get them and come home with no more injuries the latter point is critical for me. I feel sorry for Billy Davis, he is trying his best with a team that is obviously relegation bound and out of its depth in the premiership based upon current evidence at least. Derby will lose but I hope they account well for themselves as I hate to see teams humiliated just to prove some kind of stupid point.
November 23, 200717 yr 2-0 is fine as long as it is obvious that the foot was taken off the pedal at 2. any struggle to win this game will be a shock. these are sh*te and so a big win is easily on the cards. personally i am expecting 4-0.
November 23, 200717 yr Funny thing that people are already writing off anything good that might be said about the new regime if we were to go out and drub Derby its like some insurance policy that says..in the event of a draw to mediocre or lowly opposition all knives must be sharpened and pointed in the direction of Mr Grant, in the event of a slim victory..no need for the knives merely ignoring Grants contribution and mentioning it was done in typical Jose style will be enough, in the event of a convincing win..utterings of the league table position of the opponents and the fact that a couple of other teams have beaten them convincingly should be enough to wipe away any merit the manager deserves, If the said opposition has not been beaten badly and is above Chelsea in the Table, the old They had an off day will always do the job, I would just like to say that all the top teams have come unstuck to these lowly teams in the past and no game in the premeirship is an easy one, as we have all agreed the points are what matter here but they are not in the bag yet and if we could get going and get some goal average and confidence running through the team winning by more than 1 goal would not be the waste of time some seem to think it would be. Oh yeah and entertainment wise every goal we score entertains me more, if that doesn't go for everyone why do we post the goals on here? I dont expect a big win as Derby have nothing to lose as they are already written off by most and we need the points, like all of you, I will be happy with any victory but if it was a resounding one I would not treat it as a futile statement from Grant. (sorry Callista I am trying not to but had to answer your post anyway maybe we should just email each other )
November 23, 200717 yr I found this Video back from 99 on You Tube. Although its not the last time we played at Pride Park,I think that was when we drew 2-2 and Ravenelli was playing for them. But remember this result.......typical Chelsea Cant wait until tomorrow.....early train, early invasion, early beers, early sing..... .....LATE KICK OFF!! ENJOY! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=i4ym6fk8jOU

November 23, 200717 yr Yeah thats right! Back when they had Seth Johnson,Rory Delap,Deon Burton they were pretty good. And if I remember rightly won a few battles against relegation.
