forbzy Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 There is no rumour linking Heskey with us at present but he is tipped for a move away from Wigan in January and would be available for a relatively low price. Looking at our budget restrictions and need for another striking option he might be worth a go. We wouldn't get many goals from him but I think he has shown for both Wigan and England that he is an unselfish player capable of bringing the best out of his striking partners. He also would give us a physical presence up front that is lacking right now without a fit or reliable Drogba. There are of course better options if money is no object but I think he would present a decent option if we are shopping in the bargain basement.
Mr Chelsea Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 we would have to play 2 up front to get the best out of heskey and i dont think scolari favours the 2 up front option even when anelka and drogba have both been fit this season he has not played them together properly
Kerry Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Heskey is a decent partner for a striker like Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter) who needs someone to open space for him. Judging from Drogba from last season and the season before last season, he seems to be capable of open spaces himself, given his strong physical ability. Maybe a Heskey could do Anelka some good.

Although there have only been limited occasions this season when he has had both fit and available. Perhaps he will consider trying that when Drogba is back from his ban. I don't see us going 4-4-2 against all teams but definitely when we are playing weaker opposition or chasing a game it would be nice to have that option. I don't think Malouda or Kalou can be effective as support strikers to Anelka although last season's Kalou perhaps could have done OK alongside a powerful center forward like Drogba or Heskey.
PloKoon13 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Isn't he getting on a bit? And everyone thought he was a complete joke until about six months ago
Kerry Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 what about lukas podolski? err maybe? Bayern says he's going nowhere. Last stand of information
evissy Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Heskey is one of the players I'd hate to see in Chelsea blue. Old L´pool washout.
ethicalstrategy Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I can't believe that this thread even exists. Emile Heskey? FFS! We might have a few problems but come on. Get a grip people.
Maksimov Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Our attack looks weak, but Heskey? Seriously?
midlandblue Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 If Keane keeps up his form managing Sunderland then Jones could be an affordable option.
Lofty Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) Heskey for all his qualities or lack thereof, is not a goalscorer. Not even when he's at the top of his form is he a goalscorer. The last thing we need is another striker who doesn't score goals. Edited December 2, 2008 by Lofty

Agreed, I think Heskey could maybe cause problems and help in a front two with Anelka, but surely if he's staying Drogba would do that and better and score goals.
abramovich Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Heskey is a poor man's Drogba. The only thing he's got on the Ivorian is a better attitude but it doesn't win you matches. Good player for a midtable side.

We've gone from doing our shopping at the best clubs in the world, for the best players in the world to Wigan...... Please tell me we're not looking at Heskey, Plllll eeeeeeaaasssseeee. If there's 1 forward at Wigan for sale it's gotta be Zaki we're looking at. We'll be on par witrh Spurs if we start singing players like Heskey. Kalou, Hesky, Malouda doesn't even look good on paper, I struggle to think how they'd do on a pitch together. When you look at the fire power of Utd and Liverpool, would either of these 3 get into our rivals teams? No they wouldn't.

I was just about to say its not that he isnt doing good lately, but the name alone, 'Heskey' conjures up images of a worthless, championship calibre donkey who couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo. I feel like you'd find it in the dictionary

Eoghan Whitty Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 If we sign Heskey, It would be a outrage! He isint good enough for Chelsea! We got Sidwell, He was really ****. We still signed him, Then he was sold. Not even giving chance. The same will happen to Heskey
forbzy Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 I full expected a fairly negative response to this suggestion and totally respect your viewpoints. Heskey would certainly not even be on my radar either if money was no objective. However one of the reasons I raised this possibility was based on the consistent message coming from the club that we are not going to be spending the same way and are aiming to break even. I see names thrown about like Huntelaar but players like are not going to come cheap. If we are truely going to be running a tight ship going forward then sadly we have to expect the club to start shopping in the bargain basements. Most likely that means more signings like Pizarro or Sidwell. My suggestion of Heskey was purely based on that assumption. At best in the price range we seem to be shopping in we might get a Saviola or Podolski. But there are other clubs who are able and willing to outbid us now for the popular targets. Not something any of us are keen on but we should recognize that is a realistic direction unless the club decides to start spending big again.

He is supposedly available for less than 10 million although I could see that price tag going crazy if clubs like Citeh take an interest. I doubt he would be cheap in the end. Maybe the club should be looking for the next Zaki in that case.

Just recall the loan player and save about eight quid
forbzy Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Why have Pizzaro out on loan and buy Heskey? Just recall the loan player and save about eight quid eight quid and a packet of crisps please  You may even see that option if we are really refusing to spend money. Scary thought.
Maksimov Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) Pizarro's been scoring some goals, though, hasn't he? Edited December 2, 2008 by Maksimov
forbzy Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Pizarro's been scoring some goals, though, hasn't he? Of course. Now he's not playing for us. Mind you Anelka didn't score much last season either so perhaps Pizarro would do better in Scolari's team.
abramovich Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Why have Pizzaro out on loan and buy Heskey? Just recall the loan player and save about eight quid Well, if Scolari rated Pizarro he probably wouldn't allow him to go on loan in the first place.
