loz
The day has been far too long or me to provide some lame game intro so I leave it to someone else to kick this off properly.
Maksimov
The players should have no trouble getting motivated for this. It's a must win and I hope they can handle the pressure. Can't afford to be picky now, so I don't care how we play, just as long as we won't be playing in the UEFA Cup after this match. COME ON CHELSEA! evissy
Our home form has been poor this season so I expect the players being nervous in this vital game. The opposition does not match to our quality, not by a mile. As Cluj doesn't have a chance of qualifying they are playing for UEFA Cup spot against Bordeaux. So every team has a wager in this final round. Ours is the biggest. If we fail to qualify it will be a sh*tstorm from a certain Russian. What will it lead to I don't even want to think about it. In this game we need Ballack's, Terry's and Deco's leadership and routine. If they have a great game we will win this. BTW is Deco still suspended? Lampard is anyway. I think a draw will do for us as I think Roma's pride playing at home wont give any chances for Bordeaux to win. It is very possible that the whole group draws and that is fine be us. ---------------Cech---------------- Bosingwa---Alex---Terry---A.Cole -------------Mikel------------------ ---Ballack------------Deco?-------- ------Joey--------------Kalou----- ------------Drogba----------------
Virosh
A draw won't do. What we need right now is a statement of intent and I think that's exactly what we are gonna get. I tip Drogba to personally annihilate their whole defense in the first half.

I tip Drogba to personally annihilate their whole defense in the first half. Hattrick by Drogs in the first half. I could live with that. But I'm not sure if we should have the same attitude as we have had this season at the Bridge. As Scolari has said the team feels lot more pressure playing at home than away. It shouldn't be like that at all. Team should feel at home and not feel the pressure to entertain the crowd too much with the cost of losing the game. We still need to grind out the results home or away.

I dont think they can even get that mate. If teams are level then it isnt down to GD it the results of the two games played against each other. Bordeaux have beaten them twice so if they end up level Bordeaux go through. Just like if we end up level on points with Roma, they go through (heaven forbid) Im going full out for this one. 4-4-2. No Lamps and i suspect Joe isnt ready. Cech Cole Ivanovic JT Bos Deco Ballack Mikel Kalou Anelka Drogba If he does go for 1 up front i hope he sticks with Anelka. Even if Drogba is the better option Anelka deserves it and bringing Mr Me Me Me back ahead of him sends out a bad message. Still lets hope for 4-4-2. Seriously, who ever plays if we dont beat Cluj then we deserve whatever we get. Edited December 8, 2008 by bjd
Killbill
How did we manage to get into this mess? A must win game against a team that is going to park the bus in front of goal. Does it really matter if we finish top or runners up in the group? If we finish second and all the other English clubs finish top we will end up playing one of these teams: Juve, Pana/Inter, Lyon/Bayern, Barca with the addition of Villareal (Man U), Atletico Madrid (Liverpool) and Porto (Arsenal) if any of the other English clubs don’t top the group. If we finish top and the other English clubs finish second the choice will be limited to: Real, Pana/Inter, Lyon/Bayern, Sporting Lisbon, with the addition of Villareal (Man U), Atletico Madrid (Liverpool) and Porto (Arsenal) if any of the other English clubs top their group. ethicalstrategy
Well we saw a diamond on saturday with Kalou supporting Anelka and I wouldn't be surprised to see it again tomorrow, this time with Drogba and Anelka. No Lamps means Deco dropping back in to midfield which is a negative for sure. Malouda may well play if fit otherwise we might see Mikel move forward and Mineiro take the holding role. I definitely wouldn't play Cole at right back and Bosingwa at left back like bjd wants to! ----------------------Cech Bosingwa-----Alex---------JT--------Cole ---------------------Mikel ----Deco----------Ballack--------Malouda ---------Anelka-----------Drogba Subs: Carlo, Ferriera, Ivanovic, Mineiro, Woods, Stoch, Kalou
ethicalstrategy
Does it really matter if we finish top or runners up in the group? It is outside of our control whether we finish top or not. If Roma win then we will be second in the group even if we lose. If the Roma/Bordeaux match is a draw we will still go through even if we lose. If Bordeaux win then we need to win. To answer the question though, it does matter if we finish top or not. Last time we finished runners up we got drawn against Barca and went out. We need to win and hope Bordeaux do us a favour in Rome.
Maksimov
Last time we finished runners up we got drawn against Barca and went out. Then again, the season before that we finished first in our group, got drawn against Barca and beat them, so go figure... <_<

4EVERCHELSEA
Man how lamps will be missed in this game. Ballack and deco need to step it up in this one. This is no gimme game. If it's 0-0 after an hour it could get very, very intresting.
Maksimov
I'd say that it indicated that the side the finished top of the group was in better form and therefore more likely to win. Even if we managed to finish top of our group after all of this, I wouldn't say we would be any more likely to win the first knock out phase. Not with our recent form at home. Then again, the first knock out phase is still so far away that a lot can and will happen. Heck, we might not even make the knock out phase. bjd
If it's 0-0 after an hour it could get very, very intresting. Thats the worry. We need to go for it hammer and tongs. Get an early lead and settle the crowd and the nerves. We need to conctrate fully on doing our job and pay absolutley no attention to what is going on in Rome. Tueday is a night for professionalism. Please take note Deco. We've only got ourselves to blame for this. We have been piss poor in the CL this season and need to nail this game on Tuesday. evissy
It is not exactly a must win. If and when Roma beats or draws against Bordeaux at home a draw will do for us. Who cares if we finish second in our group. We just need to qualify. A loss wont save us but a draw can. Of course I dont wish a draw, I wish we destroy Cluj but it is not a MUST win just to make it clear. It would be twice as sweet if we'd finish second in the group and send Barca, ManU, Liverscum or Arsenal packing in the first knockout stage. The Moos
We have to win. We are at home and it's time to show that we do indeed have some balls. I don't care that much whether we finish top of the group or second just as long as we get a really good result to prove that we are dangerous. And if we fail to win and fail to go through to the next round then I don't know what to say. Scolari will be knee deep in s*it (if he isn't already). What I want from the game is strong leadership from the experienced guys and especially from JT. I want every player to play like their life depended on it. Go into the game with the thought that this is just as big as a world cup final and that the team they are facing are a good one. Don't take anything for granted. And I don't want to see any whining or heads hanging. Go out there and crush them. Score once, twice and then some more. This is Stamford Bridge goddammit and we are Chelsea. We should be top of everything and feared by everyone! <_< And Cluj isn't a name for a team. It sounds like a womans vagina...
Maksimov
It's not literally a must win as a draw could see us through, but if we win we don't have to worry about the other match. So in that sense, we must play for the win.
bjd
Mate, this IS a must win. Firstly its a must win because if we cant beat Cluj at home we should forget about winning anything ever again. Not beating the smallest team ever to be in this stage of the competition would be an embarrasment. Secondly, its a must win because imagine if we dont win and Bordeaux nick a last min winner in Rome. Thirdly, and at the very least its a must win so we can win our first game for what seems a long time at home. edit - Moos,- just seen your post. I agree with every word. (thats a first!) Ruh Buh Juh
I have reason to believe Cluj will go for this one cause they have that chance of qualifying on the basis of scoring more goals than Bordeaux and that Bordeaux lose and they beat us. But it's just not going to happen, unfortunately. But, anyway. We really have to go 110% full throttle for the whole 9 yards. Ballack and Deco need to work together and lead Mikel to a winning midfield battle and Anelka or whoever steps up needs to be at their best. Anything less, and we're out. COME ON CHELSEA!! As i stated above im 99% sure goal difference doesnt come into it - its whoever has the best of the 2 games the clubs tied on points have played against each other that counts. Cluj, therefore are gone, gone gone. Playing for pride and not a lot else. Thats why Roma will go through if we are even with them and thats why we must f**king win this game! geezer
DROGBA, ARE YOU HAVING A LAUGH, HE SHOULD NEVER STICK THE BLUE SHIRT ON HIS BACK AGAIN Let him play bare chested then. At some point we're going to need his strength up front to unsettle what is a very solid Cluj defence.
