Last time Real Madrid won La Liga, was under Capello, brilliant manager and his squad was inferior compared to what Mourinho has now.

Looking in hindsight it would probably be a great idea to includes clause which removes AVB payoff if he didn't deliver 4th place and Roman wanted to sack him
I think we all get that you're really not convinced by AVB, and thats your right, but its starting to sound like you have some kind of personal grudge. At least let him finish his season before judging him so absolutely. Last time I checked, we were still in 4th. It could be worse, we could be Arsenal.

Give AVB two seasons (including this one), obviously if it gets stupid, and we are fighting for sixth place, fair enough let
him go.
him go.

Taking nothing away from Capello here, incredible manager, would love to have his input on Chelsea - his Milan side of the early 90s was awesome

The thing is, I haven't really seen anyone here claim that AVB buys bad players. He's made good buys. He seems to be good at it.
So why would you want to take that away from him?

Give AVB until the end of next season after the summer transfers. Get the players he wants and let him remove those he doesn't.

Lol personal grudge
I am uncovinced by him - that's true. But I'm not saying we won't finish fourth, just if it happens, and Roman decides to sack AVB, we/he will lose another 20 odd million.
Please include such clauses in all future contracts to any managers Roman.

Agreed, he seems very talented with buying players. Mata for me is an absolute gem of a player. He is already fast becoming a favorite of mine in the entire team & he's only been here half a year. I'm not too impressed by Meireles tbh, but he does seem to do a decent job in the midfield when Ramires/Lampard are out. As for Romeu, I yet have no idea how exactly good he is (whether his pre-winter form is his true self) - but seems like a great buy for the price.

My worry is not AVB as manager it is more the current squad. It is too old and i just get the feeling that some of them as lacking that hunger and fight. I think it is going to be very hard for AVB to rebuild the squad without the club spending lots of money. Most of our players now have very little market value so most of the money spent on building would have to come from Roman himself and with the new rules (as much of a joke that they are) could well have an impact on the quality of players we can afford to get in.
I think without a doubt being the Chelsea manager is the hardest job in club football right now.

I think a lot depends on how our youngsters develop. Josh McEachran for starters should be back next season ready to fight for a regular first team place. Looking a little further ahead you have the likes of Chalobah, Lalkovic, Ismael Feruz and then there's Piazon who has already been included in the first team squad.
We have a lot of very, very promising youngsters. I think if even a few of them make the grade over the next few years then we shouldn't need to be spending bucketfuls of cash. I don't understand why Ryan Bertrand hasn't been given more playing time though. Is this a problem with AVB or is he right to leave him on the bench?

I think most people have said that AVB has been dropped in the sh*t with regards to the current squad, and the fact that past managers rested on their laurels with regards to freshening it up, however AVB was aware of the squad when he joined, he also stated that he would asses the squad and make improvements where needed, now whether due to a lack of funds or whatever he went into the season with largely the same squad as last year.
If it was down to lack of funds why did he allow so many of our younger players to either leave for free or go on long term loan!
He has brought in a couple of decent looking players of which their is no doubt, but I would hardly say he has made the improvements that were needed!

Some people think we have an Aston Villa/Blackburn tier squad which to me is complete bollocks. Fourth or third best team in the entire league and we could be barely hanging on to 6th after Everton.

Once again today, AVB said he thought the squad was good enough to compete in all 4 competitions.
When he said it at the beginning of the season, I thought it was just PR talk to keep his players believing and motivated. Still do, actually.
I hope I'm right, and that he didn't actually misjudge the quality of his players. It's almost impossible to sort truth from rumour in the ransfer market, so we'll never know who AVB actually wanted to buy in the summer and how willing he was to stand pat.
I choose to believe that he knows where the team is weak, he knows who he'd like to buy and he's aware of the FFP financial limitations.
This summer will be the true test, I reckon.

How do you come to that conclusion? what manager could succeed if 75% of his squad needing replacing?
Ancelotti succeeded
With a worse squad.
We had no Mata and we got more results.
And my idea of success was CL qualification. He got 2nd place.

I think the real question here is, if we replaced that 75% with better players, would AVB still be as tactically naive and clueless with his substitutions? Most likely.
Also tagged with as in think hes the right man, AVB
