The fact that the source was a Guardian article detailing the racist statements said and articles written by our current prime minister is irrelevant to the point under discussion. You can keep on digging as much as you like. Neither you nor I have any right to tell a black or other minority person whether or not they have been racially abused. And, as you seem to have difficulty in either reading or comprehension, the relevant part of my previous post was "These reforms have since become the standard for prosecutors. They allow victims and third parties to define if something is racist. " Nothing to do with flagging, subjectivity or otherwise, and no-one but you has raised the concept of enhanced sentencing. And again, you claim you have the right to decide whether any abuse is racially motivated or not. That really does smack of the entitled, exceptionalism that is hugely on the increase in this country, very much to the detriment of all decent, caring people. Don't bother replying, we are of opposite ends of the spectrum and will never agree on this, so lets get back to the football.

I'm fairly sure, but I'll go and check now, just to make sure. Right, I got it from a piece about how racially and homophobically offensive Johnson has been throughout his career. The specific article said "In a piece written in 2000 for The Guardian, Johnson said that a "bunch of black kids" made him “turn a hair”, and added: If that is racial prejudice, then I am guilty. Yes, Boris, you are. In the same column, he railed against the Macpherson reforms, which were proposed in the wake of the murder of Stephen Lawrence. These reforms have since become the standard for prosecutors. They allow victims and third parties to define if something is racist. Johnson wasn't keen, saying it was "Orwellian stuff" from the "PC brigade"."

That is literally the legal definition of a racist crime as used by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Tickles me how people see players differently. I was at the annual awards when Willian won player of the year AND players player of the year. If some posters in here had their way, he wouldn't even have been invited to the dinner.

Fair enough, then, but if his contract's up, it's up. Perhaps a diplomatic ingrown toenail or case of the sh*ts for a couple of weeks would sort it.

I am stunned at how many of us in here bothered to watch either game, to be honest. I have no interest at all in watching other teams, but maybe I'm just a Chelsea fan and not a general football fan.

It's nothing to do with whether you or I believe him or not, whether he himself believes it or not, or even whether it was a racially motivated stop and search or not. The simple fact of this is that neither you nor I, as white people, have the moral authority to determine what does or does not constitute a racist act. I sort of agree that false accusations do very little to promote a sense of equality or justice,in the same way as false accusations of sexual assault don't serve the accuser well under normal circumstances, but trying to belittle the existence of racism in the police force and the wider community because you say something similar or worse happened to you is just bollocks. Something similar happened to me. I was out with three black mates some years ago. Walking from a pub to a blues party we got pulled over by a police car. The first thing they said to me was I ought to be careful who I mixed with and then told me to f**k off on my way. The rest of the group were then pushed back against a fence and searched quite roughly. They arrived at the party about half an hour later, not very happy about it. Just after midnight the same police and four others came into the party, started shoving people around, saw me and told me to f**k off out of it again, and then started frisking everyone else. Silly, really, as I was the one carrying the weed that night. And that was in a sleepy little market town in Wiltshire. Want to tell me that wasn't totally racially motivated? We're only "so much better than America when it comes to racism and how the police behave." because the majority of our police aren't armed. When the armed police are out and about in say Tottenham, for example, don't be a black man in a taxi if you can help it.

I wasn't going to get into this but having a white bloke telling a black bloke about what is and isn't racism doesn't sit well with me at all, and is patronising and condescending at the very, very best.

How to end this season ?
So 1.3% chance of infection at 2 metres as opposed to 12.8% at 1 metre. Very nearly 10 times more likely then. At 1.5 metres you double your chances of infection. I know what distance I am keeping from everyone and will continue until I'm convinced that it's safe. Did you see the utter f**king cretins on Monday morning trying to batter their way into the Nike shop on Oxford Street, because their inviolable human rights to buy a new pair of trainers meant that their own and other people's lives didn't matter?

How to end this season ?
OK, @Valerie, I won't tell you. That was a lie. (See, I could be a Tory after all!) There are nowhere near enough tests being carried out, our wonderful government are counting a nose test, a throat swab and an immunity test on the same person as three test, they count postal tests as having been carried out when they are dispatched. not when they have been returned and tested and STILL they are falling short of the numbers they promised us weeks ago. Care homes and essential service workers are NOT being tested routinely and only if you have symptoms can a normal citizen ask for a test, upon which you mostly have to travel to a drive-through testing centre, sometimes up to 100 miles or more away from your home. No-one but politicians, football players and other sports people and those who can afford to pay privately are getting regular tests. And we still aren't testing people arriving at the airports and ferry ports, not implementing quarantine in any regulated way. and keep on encouraging the common-sense filled great british public to push further and further against the restrictions that should be keeping us safe purely to carry on the madness of brexit. I wonder how many of the johnson-supporting members we have in here were up in London at the weekend, throwing bottles of piss at the police and pissing on memorials to murdered policemen. My money is on at least two that I can think of.

General consensus on teh radio this morning was that if you reduce the distancing from 2 metres to 1 you increase the chances of catching the virus between 4 and 10 times. Also the time needed in that sort of proximity to catch the virus drops from 2 minutes to 6 seconds. Scary as f**k if the government are considering this just so we can all go to the pub and forget about how badly it's all been handled and how sh*ttier it's going to get as they force through their crash-out brexit madness.

How to end this season ?
No, none of your examples are acceptable. Fund the care services properly and none of them would need to happen. Accept a criminally negligent dogmatic government committed to an ill thought-out and irresponsible "herd immunity" plan and that just compounds all of the very real fears you outline above. You and I, and more importantly, our press and broadcast media, should be screaming this from the rooftops and holding these criminals to account. No reasonable person can think that this releasing of the very loose restrictions that were applied too late in the first place is anything other than putting wealth over health, getting the plebs back to work, regardless of safety, forcing them to send their kids back to school despite there being no indication that this won't just generate a second, bigger wave of infection. You're wrong about Spain and Italy, they don't have higher death rates and they didn't have the advantage that we had of seeing the progress in other countries. The UK is internationally recognised as being the second worst affected, with only Trump's dystopian asylum having a worse death rate than us. If you truly "want whatever measures that will put them at the absolute lowest humanly possible,", then that is Stay at Home, Avoid the f**kwits, provide regular test, trace and isolation for everyone found to be corona-positive and wait for a working vaccine. And demand that the government address this in the interests of the entire population and not in the interests of their own careers, or to stop making decisions now in order to blame-shift to cover their arses for when the country gets to the state where it can actually deal with a truly independent enquiry into how this was so massively mishandled. They have already passed the buck to you, if you die it is because you didn't stay alert, and are now blaming the scientists for giving the "wrong advice". There is no level to which these people will not stoop in their self-serving desperation to cling onto power, appease the billionaire press magnates and hedge funds that need to avoid any EU scrutiny of their tax-avoidance schemes, and pander to the xenophobic Little Englander bigots who "want brexit done" regardless of the cost in human life and misery.

How to end this season ?
Not for me to say either way ,really, I'm not the one proposing that we remove restrictions and deliberately allow people to go out and catch a lethal virus. If pushed, my view is not one unnecessary death is acceptable. You're proposing that, so answer the question. How many unnecessary deaths are acceptable to you? Is it tens? Hundreds? Thousands?
-
How to end this season ?
So exactly how many tens of thousands of virus-related extra deaths do you think are acceptable to stop this happening as you describe?
-
How to end this season ?
In theory, you are right. In practice, the world has gone mad already, beaches, parks and open spaces were crammed at the weekend, in the park near me at lunchtime there were obviously separate households picnicking, just an example of just how self-entitled and f**k-witted some people are can be seen at https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/local-news/disgusting-scenes-matlock-200-bikers-4140696 The trouble, as I keep on saying, is that this government WANT the herd to be infected, they tried actually saying that was the plan and got slaughtered by all responsible scientific knowledge, so now they are sneaking it in by relying on the selfishness and ignorance of a large part of the herd.

How to end this season ?
My view still hasn't changed. Void this season, forget about any thought of playing until every frontline worker is getting regular and immediate testing, the population are subject to test/trace/isolate properly, not in some half-arsed, vaguely promised, weasel-worded way and there is SOME sort of control of the pandemic. This ridiculous move last week to open up is just a blatant attempt to sneak the disastrous "herd immunity" eugenics solution through under the radar, without ANY indication of a vaccine being available for the next 18 months (at least) and the government messaging, confused and bewildered as it is, is, in a not very subtle way, shifting the blame from government inaction and failures to us, the people needing to "Stay Alert", with our great British common sense and plucky Dunkirk, Blitz spirit. We all saw how well "common sense" worked out over the weekend on beaches, beauty spots and natural tourist attractions. What we have to "Stay Alert" to hasn't been stated, but the cowardly and devious spin doctors behind Johnson and his cabinet of inadequate yes-men now have the perfect excuse when the inevitable public enquiry comes along - "We told them to be alert, they obviously weren't following our instructions or they wouldn't have died" When such a cynical criminally irresponsible plan is being foisted on us, even contemplating Premier League football matches being played purely so Sky, BT, Bet365 and Paddy Power keep on pulling in the billions is an obscenity.
