Apparently Mata played behind the striker for Spain in the U21's and looked very tasty. I would presume that's where we might also play Modric.

I gather he was playing at only "60% fitness". Still one of the best players I've seen when fully fit. He has tremendous balance and knows how to find the net. Wasted playing in the Bundesliga.

Interesting viewing. I liked Lukaku. He spoke good english and seemed pretty grounded. Hopefully we will get to see some of him soon. Oriol seems much less sure, but that could just be an issue with the language. I didn't get anything from the questioning to suggest he was only planning on a short stay.

This leaves Alex, Bertrand, Van Aanholt, Ferriera, Bosingwa, Lampard, Ramires, Essien (when fit), Drogba, Sturridge, Anelka, Kalou, Benayoun, McEachran, Lukaku. It's hard to believe that some of those won't get moved on. I'm assuming we will get Modric, of course. If we don't get him then we could drop Mata in to the centre and let Sturridge play from the right. Frank could play in one of the central midfield roles and Didier could slot in to the centre forward position. There are plenty of options all over the pitch. The key is the manager. Making the right choices and getting the best from the players.

Agree completely about the idiots who cheered Kalou off and boo'ed at half time. I was surprised Kalou was taken off. He was one of the more lively players up to then - although that wasn't saying much!! However, we did play better after the change so credit to the manager for making the decision.

There's a difference between saying no more signings are needed as opposed to saying will will not be making anymore signings. Let's just wait and see.

It's not very clear, but the way I understand the buy back clauses work is this. At the end of the first year Barca have the option to buy him back for £10m. However, we have the option to keep the player for a further fee if we want. It is a sort of double option agreement which ensures we don't pay a fortune for a young promising but unproven prospect and Barca don't find themselves out of pocket if he full fills his potential.

Aside from the reflex instinct to have a go at Chelsea, a lot of what he said is very true. Still fancy us to finish better than 3rd though.

I agree that Bertrand would be ahead of Van Aanholt. He's an England U21 international and has more experience having been out on loan for longer.
