It finished a few minutes ago. No AVB today, just Lukaku and Romeu.

Romeu certainly came across as just here to get experience and then go back, but maybe it was lost in translation somewhat.

Not sure why you think that, this is what he said on the matter

"Fabregas' case is different to mine. My intention is not to think about the future."

and "I've been interest in this club [Chelsea] for a while now. I'm here to give my all. It's not my intention to move"

as well as "It's not my intention to move, Chelsea have given me this great opportunity."

Now all we can do is take those at face value.

Interesting viewing. I liked Lukaku. He spoke good english and seemed pretty grounded. Hopefully we will get to see some of him soon.

Oriol seems much less sure, but that could just be an issue with the language. I didn't get anything from the questioning to suggest he was only planning on a short stay.

From the official site:

ORIOL'S OPPORTUNITY

Posted on: Tue 23 Aug 2011

Oriol Romeu believes he is in peak condition to take advantage of the 'great opportunity' he has been given at Chelsea.

The 19-year-old Spaniard has been speaking publicly for the first time since his arrival from Barcelona earlier this month, and he is hoping his hard work will pay off as he looks to edge his way into Andre Villas-Boas's plans.

'This is one of the best clubs in the world, the coach expressed an interest in me and I thought it would be a wise choice to take advantage of being part of such a huge club,' he said, when asked what had attracted him to Stamford Bridge.

'I have been interested in this club for a while now. I understand there are a lot of high-level footballers here but my aim is to keep improving and learn from the other footballers around me and work hard as part of this team.

'I am just going to make the most of the experience and take advantage of all the opportunities that arrive. I am going to work hard in training and give it my all, and earn whatever opportunity arises to play in the first team. I am not setting myself important long-term goals, I'm just going to give it my all during every training session.'

The youngster impressed for his country during the Under 20 World Cup in Colombia, helping them reach the quarter-finals before elimination on penalties to Brazil, and now he is focused on forcing his way into the Chelsea side.

'I played in a couple of really tough games during the World Cup against Korea and Brazil, they went into extra-time and this helped me to improve how I am physically and my condition,' explained the midfielder. 'I'm in great physical shape right now and happy with the way things are.

'I am concentrating on this season, I want to do my best and make the most of the opportunity I've been given. Chelsea has given me this great opportunity and I want to play as many games as possible.'

Romeu is just one of a growing Spanish contingent at Stamford Bridge, joining Fernando Torres and medical staff Ivan Ortega and Paco Biosca, with Juan Manuel Mata also expected to sign imminently.

'It's great news for me,' he said when asked about the prospect of 23-year-old Mata joining him in SW6. 'He is a wonderful player and I think he can contribute a lot to the team if this goes through.

'I'm really grateful to both Fernando Torres and [sports therapist] Ivan. This is a huge club, and it can be intimidating when you arrive somewhere new but these people have helped me a great deal with different issues like looking for a house and I am obviously incredible grateful to them.'

Romeu takes the number six jersey, which has been free since Ricardo Carvalho departed for Real Madrid last summer, and is in contention to appear against Norwich City this weekend.

I can't help but feeling Lukaku won't need too many chances to start proving effective. It may just be wishful thinking (and he certainly won't be hounded as much for not being succesful early on given his age), but if he plays with the passion that he seems to have for the club, you get the feeling anything could happen.

And here's an article from the official site based on Lukaku's part of the press conference:

LUKAKU: HERE TO LEARN

Posted on: Tue 23 Aug 2011

As he makes the transition from Chelsea fan to Chelsea player, Romelu Lukaku has explained how he is constantly picking things up from his new team-mates.

The 18-year-old signed from Anderlecht earlier this month, describing his transfer as a dream come true having been a Blues supporter since he was 10.

He has quickly settled into life at Cobham, sitting next to idol and fellow striker Didier Drogba in the first-team dressing room. Naturally there are comparisons between the two powerfully built forwards.

'To be compared with Didier is a very big honour to me,' he conceded. 'Every time I spend time with him we talk and I sit next to him in the dressing room. I listen all the time because he gives advice and, also with Nico and Fernando it is the same, so I am very happy to have world-class strikers around me.

'I am not here to replace him, just to play for Chelsea and I hope he will stay as long as possible so I can play with him and continue learning from him. He is a world-class striker.

'When we do some finishing exercises after training he said to focus as long as possible when you hit the ball, until the last minute. [These are] very small things but very efficient.'

Lukaku, who averaged a goal every other game for Anderlecht since making his debut at 16, knows he faces a challenge to make an impact.

'The English Premier League is the biggest competition in the world so it will not be as easy as Belgium, but first of all I want to learn from the players that are here and after that I want to show to the coach that whenever he needs me I am ready. First of all I want to train and be as fit as possible.

'Here you train at a very high level and make much more effort than in Belgium. I am very aware of that.

'I'm very proud to be here. I worked for a long time to come at this level and to be here makes me very proud,' said Lukaku, who has 10 Belgium caps.

'At my young age there is still very far to go, and after one week I am very focused to be better. To train with these guys is important, and to listen to the experience they had in the past is also very important and I am very happy about that.

'I always said to my friends I would play for Chelsea one day so to be here is something amazing. I realised my dream but now I have to focus on training every day and hopefully get some minutes because you have world-class strikers around. It's a dream come true and I hope Chelsea will have a lot of success in the future.'

He has already taken in recent games with Stoke and West Brom and believes there is plenty of potential for the rest of the campaign.

'In both games in the second half we played very well,' he summarised. 'We have to continue working because we have a new manager and new signings, so I think when time goes by we will have a great team and a lot of success this season.'

Finally, the new boy discussed what it was like moving into the Cobham dressing room for the first time.

'I was quiet and didn't say anything, I just looked around. You don't know what to say, like when the captain John Terry tells me "Whenever you need me you can call me", and Didier says, "Well done Romelu". It's like "Did he just say that to me?"

'It gives you a boost to do more, and sometimes also when you do something wrong they also scream at you. It's not play time now, that's over and we have to work hard to get success.'

With the commitment and mentality Lukaku has already shown, nobody at Stamford Bridge doubts there are many years of success ahead of him.

And from ESPN:

'Proud' Lukaku hopes Drogba stays to guide him

Romelu Lukaku has admitted he is 'very proud' to have joined Chelsea - but hopes the man many believe he has been bought to replace, Didier Drogba, stays at the club for a very long time.

The 18-year-old Lukaku finally formally completed his multi-million move from Anderlecht last week, and was unveiled at the club's Cobham training centre on Tuesday alongside fellow new signing Oriel Romeu.

Having previously admitted that he has supported Chelsea for a number of years, the striker expressed his delight at finally getting the chance to play at Stamford Bridge.

"I am very proud to be here. I've waited for a long time to come to this club," Lukaku said. "It makes me very proud at my young age to come here. After one week I'm really focused to be a part of the squad."

Lukaku enjoyed a prodigious scoring record in his native Belgium, but has already been warned by manager Andre Villas-Boas that he will need to be even better in order to succeed in English football.

"The Premier League is the biggest competition in the world so it will not be as easy as back in Belgium," Lukaku acknowledged. "But first of all I am learning from the players here. The manager has told me to train hard and to be as fit as possible because he explained that the club is at a very high level and it needs much more effort than in Belgium. I am aware of that."

Lukaku has been compared to fellow Blues striker Didier Drogba due to his similar size and speed, and has been touted in many quarters as the natural successor to the 33-year-old. While Lukaku admits they are alike in many ways, he hopes the Ivory Coast international stays at the club for a number of seasons yet.

"[We are] very similar, very, very similar," Lukaku said. "He has pace and one-against-one is also very strong. To be compared with Didier is a very big honour for me.

"He assists me also in training. Every moment I spend with him I listen all the time because he always gives me advice. With Nico [Anelka] and Fernando [Torres] it's also the same so I'm very happy to have these strikers around me.

"I don't think I can replace him, I hope he stays here as long as possible. He's a world class striker."
