United for me. I started following Chelsea when United were always on top and their fans gave me hell when Roman finally came in. Hate them with a passion. Love Jose but I want him to fail miserably there. Entitled bunch.

Another thing that worries me with this team is our energy levels. It always looks like the opposition can run all day long, but we seem to hit a wall as soon as the 2nd half starts. It's been going on for a while now at the club, maybe most of these players just aren't built for the physicality of the league.

I don't buy this notion. If we offered United whatever the equivalent of £60m was in 2012 for Nani they would have chopped our hand off. United are the closest thing to China we have right now in terms of paying inflated prices for players on the wane, they can knock themselves out as far as im concerned.

I liked Emerson. He is smooth on the ball, quick first steps and has a very purposeful cross.
When he gets rolling I think he will have a lot to offer.
I can see how fans would get on Conte for not getting him in the team earlier but I also understand why.
When you have a team that is not performing and every match in your schedule has serious implications you tend to go with the players who have been consistently good for you.
Conte knows that M.Alonso has been a solid player all year and to be fair, most of the times Conte has relied on a depth player to fill a role in our starting 11 it has not gone well.
See Zappacosta and Bakayoko against Watford. Cost us the game and critical points.
Anyway, point is I think Emerson will be a good addition and I liked the signing despite missing out on better targets for LWB.
Also, I don't agree with the statement that Alonso has struggled this season. He has been good, but, has had a few poor moments. Outside of those he has been reliable and has chipped in with goals and key passes.

I loved Costa's confidence and how he would score in a game with hardly getting a chance at goal.
But at the same time I remember how bad of a player he was, he would ruin every single counter attack as soon as he got the ball. I don't think Morata is anywhere near as bad on the ball as Costa was, Costa looked like a Championship player at times with his back to goal. I also think Morata has better movement and gets himself in better positions, it's why he's scored a lot more headers when Costa scored about 4 headers the whole time he was here.
And when I saw people comparing this situation with Torres then I knew for definite people are getting way in over their heads.

He had 3 chances, 1st he took an extra touch and the angle went tight, the 2nd I don't think he could've done any better, but the 3rd should've been tucked away, even if it was a sensational save.
I know Batshuayi has his floors, but I think he would be quality in a 2 man attack with giroud, who does the things bats is poor at, brilliantly.
Not really a long term solution though with giroud being 32.
Not sure what will happen with morata, he looked really angry with himself, but he needs to improve his finishing or he will never be a top striker at a big club.

I was happy when we signed Morata (mainly it's true, because he wasn't Lukaku).  But he really is crap isn't he?  He just falls over, gets caught offside, and whines.  I really wanted to like him. Funnily enough I really didn't want to sign Costa and quickly grew to love him.  So just ask me which striker to sign.  And then sign the one I don't like.

Nauseating listening to NBC commentators saying Pep is the best coach in the world. Yeah, he only needed 500m. He is a very good coach but come on, he just got routed in the CL.

He failed at Bayern Munich, they were always in the driving seat to win every domestic trophy there, Dortmund massively declined as Pep joined Bayern. Heynecks Bayern were very dominant not just dominant in possession.
He did build a good team, but with a lot of money, a lot of time and he got tactically outdone by all the 3 Spanish sides where it was kind of embarrassing. Like the time when he played 3 at the back against Messi, Suarez and Neymar and it was a cricket score, and then he got thumped 4-1 by Carlo's Madrid.
I'll admit I didn't think he would win the title this season, I was wrong, very wrong. I thought they would crumble halfway but they did keep their dominance throughout the full season so respect to them. But at the end of the day, he walked into an already built side and had the freedom to spend as much money as he wanted, he spent like 200 million on wingbacks this season because he barely even needed any players. He's a complete chequebook manager, I remember when Jose came here he signed 2 players for absolute bargains, 30 million for Diego Costa, 27 million for Fabregas, then we went on to win the league
I don't think it's fair to call him the best manager ever not even the best manager currently, he's only ever walked into completely safe jobs. I respect him for going to the Premier League where its competitive, but he still walked into the most comfortable side in the league where he can spend as much money as he wants.

The continued anti climax of this title win is so fitting...seeing kompany in a poxy living room with some of his family members and forcing out a very unconvincing 'yessssss'...him facetiming de Bruyne and Walker to portray some kind of squad excitement...all a bit cringe

    .......again.
It's not the first time it's happened. It's happened to him with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
It's like i said a few weeks ago, we would never have won the title last season with Guardiola as manager. He would never be able to build a team on limited funds.

It’s amazing though because despite the talent and ability he’s shown everywhere else before and after his time at Chelsea, apparently he so bad here that it’s amazing he was ever scouted and signed in the first place. Of course it was nothing to do with Mourinho deciding that after a couple of poor performances that he had had his chance and must be sold. And despite Mourinho being heralded a genius for turning Joe Cole from a lazy show boater into a talented workhorse, KdB was so hopeless that even Jose’s Midas touch was powerless.
No matter what anyone says, KdB was a monumental f**k up. Salah was a surprise as despite being consistently poor, he was afforded a good few opportunities and even took a fair time to come good after he’s gone. You can’t get them all right but KdB was a balls up.
Don’t get me wrong, as I’m not saying he’s the difference between our current malaise and being top; he’s definitely not that good but, he’d be the joint first name on our team sheet and he more than likely have made Moratas life a fair bit easier.
Still, no point crying over spilt milk. Especially when you’ve now got Ross Barkley in your squad.

You actually think that's a valid comparison? Torres was about 28 when we signed him and 50 million then was 100 million today and he was having a very poor season due to his injuries which came quite clear after we signed him. Morata turned 25 in October, just because he's not "young" doesn't mean he's old either, has plenty of time to develop. Morata has also scored 11 goals in the Premier League, Torres had about 1 in his first season and after that, he barely scored any. He finished his Chelsea career with 20 goals... So if you think that's going to be the case with Morata I highly recommend that you never take up scouting in your professional career.
You constantly berate the board for selling our ex-players then you're calling Conte a bald c**t in match day threads and telling him to sell Morata after one season. It's quite clear what type of fan you are, a reactionary child who throws his toys out the pram.

27 goals now this season between our strikers ... seeing as we only play with one, that is really not a bad return. If we had one guy who'd played all the time, and he was on 27 goals, we'd probably all think that was decent ...

My point is that you came up with one example.
And that example - from a coaching perspective is not a good option.
If I am winning 1-0 with a whole half to play why would I take out one of my more creative players after 50 minutes? What if we concede? Now I'm stuck with Drinkwater on the field and not much in terms of forward passing out of my CMs.
Now would it make sense to bring Drinkwater on leading 1-0 at minute 75? Sure. I can get on board with that. Problem is we conceded well before that so Fabregas had to stay on to help rescue the points.

You keep ignoring the size and quality of the squad as if that means nothing.
Sorry but Conte isn't a wizard. He's not going to give them magical powers.
We had a team that won the league playing a fairly light schedule. That team was stripped of 2 key players.
So not only was the team not reinforced and improved for the season to come it was downgraded.
Yet you will continue to say that Conte didn't do his job. I'm still not sure what you expected from this squad of players. Everyone knew Chelsea was shorthanded going into the season too. It's not like Conte was alone in his assessment.
No one really thought that Chelsea was going to challenge based on their summer activity. The Manchester clubs were always favored so its not like this was a surprise and some massive disappointment occurred.

The thing is my friend that Conte's squad lacks depth
He doesn't have that super sub than can turn the game around, not even close
Against Spurs we had Drinkwater, Giroud, Baka, Emerson and Cahill on the bench
We literally went all in and we even got that first goal. When Spurs got the upper hand though we had no plan b. What subs could Conte have made?
When we beat them 4-0 some 3 or 4 years ago we had a bench consisting of players like Willian, Oscar, Salah and Ba
Not exactly Madrid's bench but can make a difference
And Demba Ba came as a sub and scored a brace if I recall correctly

It's easy to point to the second half of the season and extrapolate our would be finishing position.
However the reality is we did ok in the first half and a tired team with no depth struggled in the second half. Which Conte said would happen if we didn't increase the squad size.
Tactically, I see nothing wrong with our setup. It looks right and for most of the game it goes well. But a fatigued team will make errors and concede foolish goals and/or fail to make decisive moves that gain you more than 1 goal.
Again, I saw a vibrant team playing some nice football against West Ham - But when we needed a goal to kill off the game it seemed there was no juice left. Then we concede.
Is our starting 11 bad enough to finish 15th? No of course not. But at some point that talented squad will be beat up enough that even the neighborhood wuss can put him down once in a while.
And still we are 5th not 10th.
