Say it ain't so

What is this ? Avram Grant being mentioned ? No, anything but that. What the demise of Gene shows is that:

1. Roman has not lost interest in the club

2. Because of 1. it is going to be difficult to attract a top-notch, experienced manager

3. Forget this season, appoint a stopgap who can keep us in 4th - Curbishley ?

4. Have a good long think about things and then try and get Zola/Clarke in the summer

5. If not Zola or even Robbie, what about Roy Keane ? He wouldn't tolerate Drogba's antics and would probably threaten to resign as often as him.

6. Don't want Hiddink, Mancini, Schuster

I really doubt we'll go for Zola or Roberto for the following reason: if we did appoint a dream team of Zola and Clarke and even Roberto added in there..... it would be many fan's dream come true. However, the appointing of these ex-players, these Chelsea legends into the role of manager, would take power away from the club.

There is no way Kenyon would appoint anyone that could jeopardize his position. Imagine, a couple of bad results and we start looking for a new manager; the fans would want his head on a plate.

I think Zola and Roberto are both too young in their coaching careers to be truly considered for the position.

Well said. its all politics at the club and they want an escape route in case things go sour, so they can once again throw money at the problem and make it go away.

Can you imagine the uproar if this was Franco we were talking about in LFS's situation? Roman would be on lockdown in his Belgravia mansions out of fear

Well actually Avram woudn't be a bad choice for the rest of the season. We should and try to get someone else for long term but if no one is available Grant is a sane choice IMO. He ground out better results than Mourinho and he knows the team. I'm not sure if the players respect him but there has to be somekind of bond between them in the run for CL glory.

Avram for short-term and Zola-Clarke for long-term.

Grant had better results than JM ? Am I watching the same game or is Ian Porterfield still manager ?

Am I in the same forum?

Val said "Bringing back Avram, even for the short term, would spell "joke of a club" to me like nothing else. How can you dismiss a manager one day, and ask him back 8 months later after his replacement has been sacked as well? "

We have more than several people saying the way forward now is to go cap-in-hand to Mourinho as our salvation. How can you dismiss a manager one day, and ask him back 18 months later after both his replacements have been sacked as well? "

That surely is the definition of a "joke of a club"

Grant is a 100% plonker. I wouldn't even wish him on Pompey.

The only possible positive outcome about appointing someone like Grant is that everything would take a

fabulous nose dive in a quite spectactular fashion and someone at Chelsea would learn a very very serious

lesson about appointing plonkers.

I dont think its the fact that we are going back cap-in-hand, I think its the fact that we are talking about Avram Grant.

18 months ago we let one of the best in the world get away. That was a genuine mistake. Sacking Grant was unfortunate and unkind, but I dont regret them parting ways with him.

But the point is that there are lots of people posting here saying do whatever it takes to get JM back - how's that gonna be written up in the Mail and the S*n

to be honest, yorkey, if we managed to do that I wouldnt give a toss about how the rags tried to spin it. It would be too good to be true

Roman probably would, as it would look worst of all on him, but if we were to get JM back, most of our prayers would be answered, and we would get a second crack at setting up the kind of long term dynasty which everyone envisions for the club i.e. prpolonged success under a proven manager. Jose is so young and skilled, he is the guy you keep for long long time assuming he wants to stay (big assumption, obviously)

fair enough, but, even if he did come back, he'd be gone again in two and a half years - JM is not a long-term one-place sort of manager. He'd been found out before he left us and I don't see that changing at all in the future

That's not to say I would be unhappy if he came back, just that it would make us all into total muppets ALA newcastle AND I don't think it would be anywhere near as successful as a lot of posters on here do

F*ck the papers, they slaughtered us for sacking him in the first place.

We need a hungry manager, who is established as one on Europes top managers, with the ability to get results, with Champoins league experience and perhaps premiership experience.

Jose ticks all the boxes.

Not arguing with any of that Bluenut - I just ain't convinced it would be all sweetness and light and trophies if he did come back

I very much doubt Roman would go back to him, cap in hand - not while Hiddink is in the building, he'll be doing everything he can to get him here permanantly I'd imagine.
