Its going ahead, but sounds like it could be a nightmare. Of course there are safety implications but that dont mean a thing to the FA who need every penny they can get to pay for their baby.

ENGLAND GAME GOES AHEAD AS PLANNED

Posted 09/06/09 13:10

Football Association chief executive Ian Watmore has confirmed threatened industrial action will not result in England's World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Wednesday being played behind closed doors.

London is set to grind to a halt this evening with tube workers beginning a 48-hour strike,

The strike will have a massive impact on travel, with England's Group Six qualifier among the worst affected.

Wembley has always encouraged fans to travel on the tube network, but the FA has refused to alter their plans in the face of what is certain to be major disruption if the strike goes ahead.

"The game will kick off at 8.15 as planned tomorrow," Watmore confirmed.

"It will not, repeat not, be played behind closed doors.

I've heard they've also closed the overground.

Yep

At todays Press conference on Sky the Reporters asked the new FA Chief Exec - Ian Wat more (incompetence) if they had made any special arrangements for the car parks to open early and if they had talked to National Express (a key sponsor) about special arrangements for getting the fans in and out - they clearly had not considered either points and the FA Comms Director had to bale him out with fudged answers.

They did say that anyone who has a ticket and doesnt go can get their money back though - bet thats gonna be a short and easy process!

Whilst the FA and Wembley cannot be held responsible for the strike, its outrageous that they do not have any contingency plans in place for siutations like this.

Outrageous , but not surprising.

Will be very interesting to see what sort of crowd ends up there now , especailly bearing in mind the opposition isnt exactly a big box office name.

When spending to +400m you'd think they'd have some kind of travel infrastructure put in place. Railway, shuttle busses, extra tube stations built etc.......

1 tube station isn't really good enough for a national stadium. It's a piss hole to get out when everyone leaves at once. You can spend over an hour on Wembley way being hurdrd like cattle by the old bill.

This will not really help our bid for the 2018 World Cup

BTW I used the Wembley Central way out last time - overall not much quicker but none of that herding from plods on horses with riot provoking tannoys and repeated orders

Is anyone remotely interested about the game?

Seeing as Andorra have only ever managed 2 international goals and have never scored against England I'll go for a 5-0

I don't know why there's not a bit more seeding in these competitions, the likes of Andorra, San Marino etc with a population the size of my local on a Friday night only seem to be there to make up the numbers

Apparently not...

Is anyone watching it? England putting in a pretty reasonable performance. Rooney's been pretty immense, and Lamps has had his moments too.

I watched some parts of the game (unfortunatelly I missed most of the goals). Seemed like a typical game between one good team and a bad one. England pushed forward and Andorra defended with 11 men. 6-0 is a good result.

But can someone please explain why the fans booed Beckham? From what I saw he had a good game. Did he make a dirty tackle or something?

That's what I was wondering. MOTM for me.

As Mod said, they weren't booing Beckham, they were telling him to shoooot.

Anyway, sooooopa, soopa Frank got on the score sheet again :P

Really like Walcott too, lets hope he doesn't burn out for the u21's.

They were telling him to shoooooooot! He hasn't scored yet at the new wembley.

Good to hear, but why tell him to shoot when he has it halfway down the pitch? I know he's scored from there before, but I doubt he'd do it tonight.

Also, please tell the england supporters to choose another word for "shoot". It's not the first time "Shooooot!" has been confused it "Boooooooo!".

I hope he does. Would make things for Sweden much easier (if they face eachother that is) :P

I hope he's too tired to play in the first Euro Championships match. :P

Oh... I remember thinking people were booing Belletti against Boro, when in reality they were telling him to shoot...

Good game from Lamps. Outshone Gerrard as usual.

And Walcott was crap. Glen Johnson did everything down the right. Fortunately Andorra were too crap to expose his defensive frailties.

I thought he was MOTM and he got the SKY vote as well.

Alright, it's only Andorra and it doesn't prove much. But there again some people were saying an iffy 15 minute spell against Khazakstan on Saturday proved he wasn't good enough for us.

The kids a very good player.

Agreed Just. He is a bit of a tit (but in an endearing kind of way) and a hell of a player. I still remember that goal he scored for us against Blackburn (?) of which really which any striker would have been proud.

Some beautiful deliveries last night.

the win was as easy as it comes

but how sh*t is theo walcott?

he looked way out of his depth against andorra

the left back had him in his pocket for nearly 90 minutes. he pulled a decent ball back from lamps but apart from that, his productivity was nil. he had a good chance to pull 1 back for crouch in the 2nd half and he leathered it at him. his 1st touch is non existant, he gets outdone by his own pace because he can't control the ball at speed, his crossing is laughable and his shooting is awful, he has zero skill

if he wasn't quick he'd be working in mcdonalds

Yeah i have to agree he really wasn't great. His decision-making just doesn't seem to have improved very much, but hopefully playing in games like these will give him the chance to make the mistakes when they don't matter so much, and he can move on from being a Djibril Cisse clone.

I thought Glen Johnson was MOM too, he had an excellent game, albeit playing more as a right sided midfielder due to the opposition. Lamps and Ashley did well too, and Rooney had a fairly good game.

Got to say though, I thought Crouch and Gerrard were awful, how Crouch even gets considered for England defeats me. I didn't think much of Beckham either, all he did was keep sending out long cross-field balls, which although most of them were accurate, they were pointless.

pretty much agree with all of that. gerrard looked totally pissed off that beckham was the pivot in midield and misplaced nearly every apss he made. he was awful.
