Real alert as Ashley snubs deal

REAL MADRID are on the verge of bidding for Ashley Cole after he rejected a new Chelsea deal.

The England star, 28, has turned down the offer which would leave him £30,000-a-week short of the club's top earners.

Cole, signed from Arsenal three years ago, wants to commit to the Blues but the contract has to be right.

A source said: "Ashley loves Chelsea and is genuinely excited about working with new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

"He wants to give the best years of his career to the club but the deal has to be right for such an important contract.

"He needs to feel as valued as any of the club's other top players."

Cole, currently on £70,000 a week, also interests European champions Barcelona.

But it is big-spending Madrid who have stepped up their interest in the left-back, who has won 71 England caps.

Madrid president Florentine Perez is aware the club's defence needs strengthening and new boss Manuel Pellegrini is a long-term admirer of Cole.

City offer JT £300k-a-wk

JOHN TERRY has been offered a record-busting £300,000-A-WEEK to join Manchester City.

The future of the Chelsea and England skipper is now on a knife-edge.

Terry, 28, has been blown away by City's offer, which is worth a mind-blowing £15.6million-a-year.

But it is a measure of how boss Mark Hughes views the centre-back as crucial to City's development.

Terry would become easily the world's highest-paid player. His salary would dwarf even that of the footballer closest to him - Cristiano Ronaldo, on £255,000-a- week at Real Madrid.

Hughes reckons Terry is the key to City bursting into the Premier League's top four and becoming one of Europe's leading clubs.

The Welshman is convinced he can get a good five years out of the centre-back, despite some of the injury problems he has suffered in the last couple of seasons, and has long had him on his radar.

City failed with a move for Terry last season and, though the latest £30m offer has been firmly rejected by Chelsea, SunSport understands the pursuit is far from over.

In fact, the Londoners are bracing themselves for another bid in the region of £40m.

Sources close to Terry say the player is beginning to wonder whether Chelsea really want him as much as they claim and admit he has been impressed by the faith Hughes has in him.

SunSport can reveal Terry has had no contact with incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti since the Italian got the job and is worried that his influence at Stamford Bridge could be on the wane.

Terry has become more than just the skipper at Chelsea. He was almost on the board and was the link-man between the players and the hierarchy.

Ancelotti may have different ideas about how the club should operate. Yet with Hughes, Terry knows he will be the main man whichever stars arrive.

Terry currently earns around £150,000-a-week with the Blues, so would be doubling his wages.

City are also prepared to pay Samuel Eto'o £250,000-a-week to secure his services from Barcelona.

Clearly money is no object to City's Arab owners.

Chelsea suspect Terry has been tapped up and City sources admit the club would not have made a bid without doing its homework.

In other words, they have already found out whether he would be interested in the move before making their official approach.

SunSport was told: "This one could run for a while. John is really interested in what City have to say. It is not impossible he could leave."

I would like to question the authenticity of both these articles. Seriously.

Kinda on-topic, but anyone noticed how everyone is reacting real favorably to Man U for signing Owen? Everywhere I see articles like "Fergie knows how to take a gamble, what a smart move by him", whereas if Chelsea signed him I'm guessing it would be totally the opposite.

The Sun completely pissed me off now, Ashley won't f**king leave and he knows it he's got the wife for that one she's never going to spain so that's bullsh*t he'll accept a deal soon. Terry will never ever ever ever leave so mark hughes can f**k right off with his arab money.

I keep reading comments like the above. Not on here but elsewhere, I find it almost bordering on casual racism, Im not over reacting, but I just would like know why the need for it? Il be fair as its usually prefixed by the word "dirty," but coming from a Chelsea fan with their almost bottemless pit is a bit well, rich. (pun intended.)

Fans on the whole yes. Personally no. its never bothered me about the money with you lot. Some people just happen to be wealthier than others. I just think it sounds bitter in all honesty. When you came into all that money my opinion was to welcome the challenge. The fact we managed to beat you in Mourinho's first season was a great moment for me as you had become a huge scalp for an underdog like us.

That doesn't make it right, though, does it, dkw ? If you say s**t, it doesn't matter if anyone else said it first, it's still s**t.

Personally, I would do my best to ignore it, bluemoon. Every club has its bad apples and they open their gob often, but you will have to get accustomed to hearing it from now on. They will be a lot of jealous folk, as we can testify.

i didnt say it was right, i just said it was a bit much for city fans in general to get a bit upset at a bit of name calling from chelsea seeing as though they spent the last 4 years or so throwing all kinds at chelsea.

Where would Cheryl get better career prospects? London or Madrid?

Until LA Galaxy are involved I wouldn't worry about Cole, Cheryl doesn't want to leave London - unless Hollywood comes calling.

Not upset in the slightest, just intrigued with the reasoning behind it as I tend to only read it rather than hear it.

Cheers for your reply Virosh.

as i said, city fans in general. i didnt say you specifically, but the city fans i know and the majority of ones on other forums are now getting upset because of the stick there getting from the media and opposition fans, totally ignoring the past 3 or 4 years of abuse they have given chelsea and their fans.

I don't think there is anything racist about saying that Mark Hughes is spending Arab money. It's just a statement of fact. The owners of the club are Arabs, therefore it follows that their money is Arab money. Likewise Roman spends Russian money, other clubs spend British money, French money, Italian etc etc. There is enough real racism to contend with in the world without inventing accusations of racism about a straightforward description of the origins of the funds.

Not to sound too much like a woman but 'it's not what he said, it's the way he said it' :D

If you say 'f*ck off' in the same sentence with 'arab money' I think it can be taken as a offensive comment and a bit racist as well...just my opinion..

While I agree with you in principle, moi, you surely realise that the choice of words one uses reveals what they mean by saying something. While in some instances the words themselves cannot be openly racist, they do carry a huge subtext, maybe a subversive meaning that belies the overt factual neutrality of a statement.

For example, Fox News were well known for calling Obama "B. Hussein Obama" at a late stage in the presidential race. While this is a factual statement, it conveys what the presenters and commentators felt about Obama and the emotions they wanted to invoke with their viewers - racism and hatred towards Muslims. No one calls a person in such a way - have you ever heard of "G. Walker Bush" or "H. Rodham Clinton", so there was no reason for them to do that.

Great point Virosh. Something is deliberately pointed out altough it doesn't concern the actual point. Reporting the news should always be somewhat neutral and shouldn't carry any opinions but sadly it is not given in this world...

I think that the Terry one is certainly something that City would like to happen, but 300K a week is merely something I feel the Sun have come up with on their own..... "betcha Terry'd leave his supposed 'one and only' club if Man City offered double his wages!" Then they go on to say we've been offered 30million...something doesn't compute.

However, Ashley off to Real is a worry. We dont' really have back up for him without playing someone out of position. Unless we sign Zhirkov, but I feel he'll play a little more advanced up the left. Remember Beckham left to Real with his pop-star wife, and then they were off to LA before you knew it....could this be a similar situation here?

Love him or loathe him, we'd be severely weakened without Ashley in our back 4
