Would David Beckham be a marquee signing for us ?

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5432624,00.html

If the price is right and the numbers crunch up.

Beckham would be good for shirt sales abroad, good for 10-20 games down our right wing ? I for one wouldnt mind seeing if he can still cross the ball, because we have some serious aerial threats at this club that I think we have not made the most of.

JT-Lamps-Joey-Ashley-Beckham thats half the English team under another Italian manager.

er... I can't see it somehow. While I agree about the marketing opportunities (God help us), there's his age to consider. I also remember when Abramovic bought the club he was reported to have said "I like him", referring to Beckham, and thinking NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Seriously, we need to be looking at someone younger and more mobile. Having said that, I do think that Landon Donovan is a right twat.

nah- rate the player, and the professional, but it would be too short term a signing.

he'll probably yo-yo between america and milan again.

I think, too, signing him at this stage of his career would severely alter our play. He was never fast, but at 33+ we would have to play a very static offensive game.

Lofty, youre right about Donovan

YES!

:beg:

Have you taken leave of your senses? Have you had a bad taste transplant? Do you realise we'd then also be lumbered with that scrawny clothes-hanger he's married to? Keep your erotic thoughts of Beckham where they belong - in the realms of fantasy!

:D

No thank you.

We have enough ageing ex-stars in the system already, and as hardworking and as great a passer as Beckham may be, he is nowhere near good enough to get into the team any more.

Looks like Man city going to try get Beckham now as well

thank f**k for that...

Well you can't have something good without having something bad. But I think I can close one eye and block Posh out of my world while the other eye gazes upon the sexy beast that is David.

Also, if "Beckie" comes then maybe we can make sure that his kids chose Chelsea in the future. Atleast one of them must have gotten some of their fathers talents.

And with David at Chelsea we might attract some big names to the stands. Maybe Tom Cruise will be there with his pet zombie Holmes at his side in a leash. Maybe we can get half of Hollywood to see our games. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey etc.

Surely nobody can object to that?

Ha ha ha!!

this is looking more and more like a transfer that might actually happen unless spurs or milan get in their first. Not sure how much game time he would get, mainly bench roles i guess when joe cole is back and with anelka and kalou (who i seem to be one of the very few ppl who rate him in this forum) but there is no doubting he seems to have a big impact at every club he visits. It looked like his arrival almost turned around milans season last year so having him in our squad could benefit us greatly. He would be cheap albeit with high wages and he would add a lot of experience in our endless pursuit of silverware (and that damn champions league crown). Not to mention would be fantastic for our set piece

If we got him on a pay as you play basis, then i wouldn't say no. Giving him a contract with top wages would be financial suicide and can you imagine J.T.'s reaction when an ageing footballer who cant get a full game for England suddenly becomes our highest paid player.

Speaking of wages, anyone know how much AC Milan paid him in wages? I've read somewhere that Beckham took a big cut in his wages to join Milan (I've read 50% but that might be wrong). So even if his deal with LA Galaxy is a big and expensive one, he might not be too expensive to have on loan.

I don't think Beckham even needs to make that much money with football. He must be a face to so many brands that his footballing earnings look like pocket money..

I truly hope and wish we don't even look at his way or think he might be a good deal. If he'd come then Terry would have a perfect excuse to leave just on the fact we have become such a sad circus...Beckham is still a good player and I've always rated him but come on!

If we sign him on the same terms that Owen is on, I don't see why this would be so bad. We have nothing to lose and he might just do a job for us on his day. He'd certainly be a better option than Deco.

The only reason for doing this would be if we really felt that we need someone for the right hand side, given the lack of signings and Joe's injury.

Not a fan of short term solutions though, so would rather we didn't.

i would have him back as a squad player, hes still an excellent footballer no matter what else he is. hes still one of the best dead ball experts in football, still an incredibly talented passer and still fit enough to play at a high level.

Honestly, I wouldn't see this as a bad signing. There's no denying he can play. He's a great passer, shooter, one of the best free kick takers England has ever had. Just as long he isn't on a huge amount of money, I'd happily take him on.

Glad a lot of people have common sense here, if he does sign then we all know it's going to boost our fan base worldwide as well as a massive income with merchandise which i'm sure the club will like. Although he isn't fast he is still a great talent and i still consider him to be in the top 3 best freekick takers in the world and his long shot passes are unstoppable, drogba latching onto those wouldn't be a bad thing, saw the highlights of the la galaxy vs milan match where he set up both goals, still a class player.
