Roman's Empire Is Crumbling (according to British media)

Roman Abramovich used to use the luxury of his boat Pelorus to woo players and managers, effectively transporting them to another world and sealing the deal for Chelsea in the process.

He is reportedly due for an upgrade next year - the £300million, 557ft Eclipse is the biggest private yacht there is - but these days it seems he cannot even get Chelsea's transfer targets waterborne.

Andrea Pirlo is staying at AC Milan, Franck Ribery seems to be falling off the club's radar and re-signing John Terry and Didier Drogba looks like the best business Abramovich can manage at the moment.

The big stars just don't want to move to Stamford Bridge any more and fans might have to make do with the potential that comes with signings such as Daniel Sturridge as they watch their rivals prosper.

Chelsea's instability cannot help the situation.

They have gone through managers at an alarming rate in recent years, the flow of silverware has slowed and with Manchester City now paying the biggest bucks, their worldwide appeal has diminished.

If Abramovich is really going to back his latest manager, Carlo Ancelotti, he has to do it with time and money or the problems of his ageing team will not be solved...and the Eclipse will not be making any waves in football.

Sometimes I feel the hacks are not even trying. How many glamour names have MU,Pool & Arse attracted this summer so far? In fact, unlike the above mentioned clubs we at least managed to keep our key players from leaving. The sad part is that no matter how illogic and baseless the article is,as long as it puts Chelsea or Roman in a negative light there'll be plenty of those willing to eat it up without even trying to be objective.

The whole of the media seems to be anti chelsea, i read an article that actually talked up our club the other day and i was very suprised. Goal.com pissed me off when they came out and said that chelsea was a dsigrace because the courts agreed that mutu should pay us compensation. This article is just an attack on our club

Well at least they're consistent....

Chelsea haven't lost any players of merit this close season, and have added Zhirkov, which seems to be forgotten. We've tied down some big players on long term or improved contracts and signed 2 young Englishman on a free.

Arsenal have sold their top scorer and captain and are not looking to replace them, United have lost Tevez to their arch rivals, sold their best player and replaced him with a chap from Wigan and Liverpool have just sold Alonso.

And we're a skint club who can't attract anyone?

Give it a rest for f*ck sake!

well rafa is a genius in the transfer market, he got robbie keane at a bargain 20mil. Then managed to turn a proven premier league goal scorer into an average player before selling him 6 months later for 14mil!!!

Why wouldnt the newspapers call him a genius?

Dont even get me started on Dossenna...

Have just tried to post Bluenut's very succinct and accurate comment under that story on the Daily Mail site, but my computer's playing up.

Someone do it please, as it will make the author look like the ill informed fool that he clearly is.

I don't know why we bother reading paper at all - atleast the sports pages. We should just give the journos the old one finger salute (or two if you prefer that) and read something more useful.

I mean, we just keep getting p*ssed off and do we really want to go around being angry at what some sad little git write?

On the other hand it's always fun to bash bad-written articles that talk s*it about us and more often than not correct the many mistakes they contain.

The big stars just don't want to move to Stamford Bridge any more and fans might have to make do with the potential that comes with signings such as Daniel Sturridge as they watch their rivals prosper.

First off, shouldn't it be "anymore" and not "any more"? I'm not english so my knowledge of the language is limited, but surely that's a typo?

As for the big stars rejecting us. Surely we haven't been after that many this summer?

And we did get Zhirkov who isn't exactly a nobody. He was great in EURO 2008 and as far as I know many big teams have been after him.

And who knows how many players we've really been out to get. Pirlo and Tevez are the only ones I know for sure and I guess we're trying to get Aguero too. Tevez went for the big money and Pirlo really want to end his career at Milan.

We have a strong team already so it's not like we have to sign lots of players.

Besides, this is the summer of Real Madrids crazy spendings so I guess that has affected things too.

And as for our rivals prospering, well the guy who wrote the article has probably missed all the transfers that's been made this summer.

ManU losing their star player. Owen and Valencia aren't bad players, but I'm not sure they are good enough to fill the shoes of Tevez and Ronaldo.

Arsenal has lost some key players and are probably going to use youngsters instead. They have some talented players, but are they going to make up for the players that is gone? Not so sure.

Liverpool has lost Alonso - one of their best players. They have signed some good players too, but are they good enough? Not so sure.

Pirlo and Tevez are the only ones I know for sure and I guess we're trying to get Aguero too.

Did we actually go in for Tevez and Aguero though? I thought Tevez said only Man City and United were in for him, and I haven't heard anything concrete on Aguero yet.

So when they say 'ultimate snub from Pirlo', it's only ultimate because it actually happened...

the daily mail really is tripe. Journo f**ks are crying like babies when we were buying up all the talent, and now theyre all pointing and laughing when we are building a well organized, diciplined team.

 unreal. "Rafa knows the score". It sounds like the usual scouse garbage that insists everything he does is brilliant, and all the bad stuff is because of Rick Parry, Tom Hicks or George Gillet. I wonder if the writer posts on RAWK

they wont be singing the same tune by the end of the year. I think this transfer, and the effect it has on his team, might spell the end of Benitez's tenure
