September 21, 201015 yr Saw the old Disney classic "Beauty and the Beast" again a couple of days ago. Absolutely lovely. Possibly a sign of age but I don't see Beauty and the Beast as an old Disney classic but ore of a modern day Disney classic. Of the modern day Disney films (i.e. those that utilise tech ology to enhance the graphics) this one is surely the best an the reasons are: 1. Belle is the only female cartoon character I am not ashamed of having sordrd dreams about, well her and Jessica Rabbit, oh and Marge Simpson with her hair down... hmm best stop 2. Lumiere scores highly in the amusing cartoon character league table, and was also my star centre forward when I played Sensible Soccer as a student - he was ably supported by Huggy Bear. 3. The Gaston song is a hoot.

September 21, 201015 yr He was the villain in Beauty & The Beast Did you find Sensible Soccer on the Amiga was bugged to hell. One half you would go 8-0 up and then concede 9 in the second. We used to play 2 player games and my mate Brian used to have a fit whenever he got tanked in the second half.

I remember throwing joysticks about all over the place after getting battered even though you had scored loads to nil.

The Gaston song is a hoot. It's a sign of age ;) I myself was 7 years old when Beauty and the Beast came out so I see it as an old movie, even if it's "only" 19 years old. But looking at the Disney history then I agree it's more of an modern day classic. After all, they had been doing movies for like 50 years or more (can't remember when their first movie came out), so 19 years old are almost like a baby for them ;) 1. She he beautiful, I must admit. Jessica Rabbit seem to have been many guys dream as well. Can't understand the attraction of Marge though. She's not bad looking, but I her voice can't be a turn on in the bed. Krabapple however... 2. I think I played Sensible Soccer when I was young, but I can't remember the players. But having someone called Lumiere and Huggy Bear in the same team can only spell success. 3. True. Gaston himself is a hoot. A hot hoot even, but with sh*t personality.
September 21, 201015 yr Try the really old Cocteau "La Belle et La Bête". It's a beautiful film. Sounds interesting. Might watch it sometime.
September 21, 201015 yr First every full length Disney film was Snow White and it was first shown in 21 December 1937. Only know that because 21 December is my birthday and the year just stuck in my head when I read the fact somewhere.
September 22, 201015 yr Gaston is my icon on my gmail account, usually gets a laugh when I'm chatting to someone for the first time. Saw MacGruber and Drag Me to Hell the other night, both meh. The horror movie tracks really well on RT, but it didn't do much for me. MacGruber seemed like it could've been funny (stupid for stupid's sake, making fun of 80's action movies) but just didn't pan out besides a couple of funny moments. Since Halloween is coming up (is that only a thing in the States? Honest question.) anyone got some enjoyable horror flicks to recommend?
September 22, 201015 yr Since Halloween is coming up (is that only a thing in the States? Honest question.) No, Halloween was invented (I think) in Scotland. Then the Americans hijacked it, totally changed it and sent it back to England in its "Trick or Treat" incarnation. What used to happen at Halloween (and maybe still does in little Scottish villages) is this: children dressed up, made turnip lanterns and went round the village knocking on people's doors. They were invited in to the house and each child had to do a party piece. It could be a song, a poem, a tune in the recorder or the mouth organ, or a joke (a clean one!) Then the house owner gave them apples, oranges, nuts or sweets, anmd VERY occasionally a threepenny bit. (but this was kind of against the spirit of the thing) YOu also had games like dooking for apples in a zinc bath, or taking a bite out of a big treacle scone hanging on the string. (but you had a blindfold on). Now alas, I expect that even Scottish children do the Trick or Treat thing.
September 22, 201015 yr Yep, the Scottish. I learned recently that they are also responsible for Hillbilly and Redneck, which Americans consider somewhat interchangable.
September 22, 201015 yr We have Halloween in Sweden as well, but we're kinda new to it so there's not many kids out in costumes and we don't have parties or decorate our garden or anything. In fact, we hardly celebrate it at all. But there's a bunch of horror movies on tv that day anyway. Usually the classic stuff like "Nightmare on Elm Street", "Halloween" (of course) and some others. Speaking of horror movies I saw one recently - "Freaks". It came out in 1932 and I guess it was considered very scary and appauling at the time, but now in 2010 it's more of a drama actually. It's a bit earie in the end, but certainly not scary. If you want good modern horror films you have to look outside USA. Sure, they had some success with Paranormal Activity, but personally I was a tad disappointed with that one. Still worth to see though. No, the best horror movies comes from places like Spain and France. Movies like Rec, Rec 2, À l'intérieur and Martyrs are really good movies. And from Sweden you can take "Let the right one in". Perhaps not your typical vampire movie, but damn it's good! Finally you can't ignore some of the classics like Psycho, The Thing, The Shining, Alien, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Nosferatu. Oh, and The Wicker Man from 1973 is brilliant as well.
September 22, 201015 yr I'll check out some of the foreign ones you mentioned. I agree with the "classic" ones you mentioned, even though they are low on special effects, they are much better than the modern horror films. The Shining is on network tv a lot here, and it's hard to not just plop down and watch it every time. I do disagree with Paranormal Activity though. Not a bad premise (and a great deal of business) but it just didn't do much for me (although I slightly prefer it to what it's inevitably compared to, Blair Witch Project).

Not a bad premise (and a great deal of business) but it just didn't do much for me (although I slightly prefer it to what it's inevitably compared to, Blair Witch Project). Well I agree the premise was good - I had very high hopes for it after all - and they made quite alot of money from it, if you compare to how little it cost to make. They really made people want to see it. But for me it wasn't enough scary scenes and the scenes between them weren't that interesting. From watching the trailer I had the idea that it would be super scary and very good. Alas, it was not. I give the movie credit for having an original idea, didn't rely on a big budget, famous/good looking actors and buckets of blood. The idea for the movie was great, but the final product wasn't as great. And I can't have high hopes for the sequel. Either they will spend more money on it and it'll turn out really bad or else it will be more or less the same movie as the first one. I hope I'm wrong.

I think it's going to be all big-budget horror movie, the total opposite of the last one. "Devil" just came out here, looks so awful. Not actually written or directed by M. Night Shymalyan (not going to even assume I came close to spelling that right), but they're putting his name on it; I think that he might have had the idea or something like that. What a fall that guy has had. "The Sixth Sense" is overrated but still a solid movie, "Unbreakable" I actually thought was good (I liked the comic book style he filmed it in), "Signs" didn't have a twist but was ok for some jumpy moments...but then "The Village", "Lady in the Water", "The Happening", "Last Airbender"....just garbage.
September 23, 201015 yr All of Shamalan's movies are boring and predictable. And yes I even mean the sixth sense. Pish
September 23, 201015 yr All of Shamalan's movies are boring and predictable. And yes I even mean the sixth sense. Pish Sixth Sense was sh*te for me, I ruined it for myself by realising he was a ghost about 20 minutes in not knowing this was meant to be the surprise ending.
September 23, 201015 yr Sixth Sense was sh*te for me, I ruined it for myself by realising he was a ghost about 20 minutes in not knowing this was meant to be the surprise ending. The same goes for "The Village", which I thought began promisingly, but the film's Big Surprise could be seen coming a mile off. Once the cat was fully out of the bag, it was downhill all the way. And "Lady In The Water" was quite simply one of the worst films I've ever had the misfortune to sit through.
September 23, 201015 yr I don't think the Sixth Sense is total sh*t, but I do feel that it is one of the most overrated films of all time. It was in the Oscar race, I think it's in the American Film Institute top 100 films, etc. I will stand by Unbreakable as the best film he's made, but I feel like that was just him getting lucky I never saw all of the Village (and I've never seen ANY of anything he's made since then) but when I heard what "the twist" was I couldn't believe anything that moronic was ever written.

I didnt know anything about The Village, but after having read the twist i`m so glad I never watched it. WHAT.THE.f**k?
September 25, 201015 yr Seen a couple of films lately. Thought I'd share it with you After seeing Beauty and the Beast I thought I'd watch another Disney movie so I decided to see The Little Mermaid. I really enjoyed it. Realised that I had actually forgotten most of the movie. Also, I've only seen it dubbed in swedish so it was a new experience watching it with the original voices. Loz, surely Ariel should be on your CILF-list (Cartoons I'd like to f***). Surely she's half fish, but still... Anyway, nice movie. 2nd movie I saw was Knight and Day. Didn't have high hopes for it, but was pleasantly surprised. Seeing as Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz plays the lead parts in this action movie I wasn't so sure that it would be any good, but both of them are actually good in this one. And the story itself is quite okay. Overall, there's quite alot of action and even a few funny moments. It's not a great movie, but it's good enough. Certainly worth seeing. That's it. Haven't seen anything else. But I would like to mention something interesting and new on television - Boardwalk Empire The pilot aired a few days ago and it was really good. Scorsese actually made the first episode and apparently it cost somewhere between $20-30m. That's quite alot for one episode if you ask me. The story is about a man called Enoch "Nucky" Thompson during the Prohibition in 1920. Really worth seeing.
September 25, 201015 yr Watched The Karate Kid last night(the new one), watched it because i wanted to see what it was like compared to the old ones which i loved. I enjoyed it surprisingly, it's more childish than the originals but i still enjoyed it as an "adult".
September 25, 201015 yr I loved the original Karate Kid, maybe because I watched it with my kids. I'd be afraid to watch the new one! Last night I watched "The Life Of Others" which is an East German film about the Stasi. As a realistic(I think) account of the surveillance work they did, it was chilling, but I think it would have made a better book than film. I felt you needed to hear the thoughts, doubts, fears in words rather than in glazed expressions on camera. Interesting though...
September 26, 201015 yr I watched Dog Soldiers last night, absolutely brilliant. One of my favourite action/horror films I think, it's superb. The perfect mix of comedy and gore, it's amazing! Good advice - really good - makes the likes of Blair Witch look like a load of w**k
September 26, 201015 yr Good advice - really good - makes the likes of Blair Witch look like a load of w**k Is Dog Soldiers the one with soldiers in the scottish highlands and werewolves? If it is that one I loved it, belting little film.
September 27, 201015 yr Is Dog Soldiers the one with soldiers in the scottish highlands and werewolves? If it is that one I loved it, belting little film. Thats the one - loved it when one of the soldiers wacked a werewolf with a saucepan
