The Brit
what are the FAI thinking in asking for a place at the world cup? they just don't get it...look you lost...sure it was handball, but you had 210 minutes to win and your team failed...think roy keane needs to be wheeled out to give another dose of reality...if not, I think Chelsea should appeal to have the champions league trophy removed from the camp nou and delivered to stamford bridge forthwith Edited December 1, 2009 by ethicalstrategy
sexelk
it is getting ridiculous apparently robbie keane handled it 4 times in the match i think we should be allowed into the world cup because if it wasn't for bad results in our 1st 2 matches we would have qualified
Gem
Whats the point in referees in this case? I did feel sorry for Ireland, but this is going too far. What do the Irish Shed Enders think?
TheWestwayWonder
While not a citizen of the Republic, they are the team I have rooted for ever since I started following football a decade ago. I was quite pissed off 2 weeks ago when the original incident happened. It was a hard pill to swallow to see both Ireland lose out on 2010 and FIFA/UEFA get their way like they originally wanted it. Now the FAI have taken a page from George W, and turned all that sympathy and good karma they had in their favor, and brought it against them. It hurts me to say it, but they are wrong to suggest this, and it is definitely embarrassing. They were not winning the match and that is the end of it. A replay was the practical solution, and as soon as it was denied other measures should have been tried but not this. Could they appeal to the CAS? Could they sue fifa for lost revenue? I guess we will never know now. Because nobody will ever get behind any of their requests again. That fat twat Sepp Bloated was mocking their request in a press conference, and getting LAUGHS from the reporters present. That SOB should be in jail for fraud and scheming, and instead he is there taking the piss out of a nation they robbed 2 weeks ago. Job well done media, once again. Don't ask question, just play along. And perhaps worst of all is that another moral outrage, which could have sparked real reform in the game, has been swept under the rug by the sideshow this incident has become. Just like Ovrebo-gate, the media chose to focus on the cursing of a few players rather than what looked like a complete travesty of fair play. Same goes here. Its all over. No more hope for video replay, at least until Barca get cheated somehow.
sexelk
i don't think fifa robbed ireland unless your mean in the sense of seeding the draw. it was a mistake by the ref and that's all it was i wonder if there would be so much made of it if it was robbie keane handling it for the fifth time and firing it in to send ireland to the finals. i think not the abuse henry has had to take is pathetic Edited December 1, 2009 by sexelk
BLUENUT
As an Englishman I'd like them to get it replayed - but.......only if we can play Argentina in the WC quarter final in Mexico again

yorkleyblue
and then the Germans would want the 1966 WC final replayed - that way madness lies - it's the only f**k ing thing England ever won!
just
Well that paragon of honesty Sepp "fair play" Blatter found it funny. He's included it in his latest DVD. First he gives everyone a history lesson, then he takes the piss out of the Irish. See how the audience lap it up. I keep meaning to catch one of his shows. I hear his stand-up routine is excellent. Might try to catch his double act with Platini when they come to the Bridge next April. I'm sure there'll be lots of pranks and gags we haven't seen before. Luckydevil
and then the Germans would want the 1966 WC final replayed - that way madness lies - it's the only f**k ing thing England ever won! No mate, you can keep it. We've won a few others it's ok for us :D Just kidding. But hey the Wembley goal is the salt in the soup in the relationship between England and Germany. People still talking about it. I won't take that away from them :) I, too felt really sorry for Ireland and the way it was handled. It was another poor decision from a ref with no response or action from the FIFA. But to ask to go to the WC as the 33 team??? I don't think this will ever happen. And as it had been said before there are a lot of matches that need to be reconsidered and a lot of results that have to be changed. And if so we will win the CL the second time in a row this year :(

Barn
Back on topic; referees have to be entitled to make mistakes, as a Chelsea fan I know as well as anyone how hard it is to take sometimes but it has to be allowed and accepted. What should be promoted rather than adding more and more refs into the mix is honesty amongst players. There would not be an issue if Henry hadn't carried the ball back into play and under control, and to be fair Henry wouldn't have handled if a long time ago FIFA/UEFA had started players for cheating. Now we're in the situation where the only option that the ruling bodies can see is to change the way games are reffed, which can never work right through the game, effectively promoting cheating as long as you can get away with it, rather than trying to clean up the game. Are they scared of these big name players and the clubs that pay their wages???? You bet they are, much better to blame the officials they don't carry any threat.
