September 8, 201114 yr The scripts needed to get clever again to compete with the "reality" television. Do you think British telly hasn't been dumbed down enough? Can't imagine how low it would have to go before it would require to get more CLEVER in order to compete with reality shows! I've just heard that my copy of Callan - The Monochrome Years will reach me by the 26th September. Oh Joy! Callan and Lonely on my screen - what more could a woman ask for? September 8, 201114 yr Can anyone recommend a good series to watch now when im bored? Seen Lost, 24 etc Really want an awesome series to follow when most series will be on hold soon.. how good is The Wire? havent seen Prison Break either is it worth a look? I would recommend Prison break. I kind of stopped watching it, but season 1 was really good if I remember correctly. In fact most series I've watched seem to turn crap after season 1. Heroes is another one. Community, if you're looking for comedy. Edited September 8, 201114 yr by footballoholic
September 8, 201114 yr So im currently following: Dexter True Blood Vampire Diaires How I Met Your Mother Modern Family The Walking Dead The Big Bang Theory Entourage, which is coming to an end after next episode :( Im thinking of buying smallville season 1-10 soon as I love the series but never properly followed it! Good list of shows you have there, I don't watch Vampire Diaries or Entourage though. I very highly recommend Fringe, my personal favourite, series 4 is starting in about 2 weeks! Another show is one I only recently started watching, Supernatural, finished Series 1 the other day (out of 6 at the moment) and it's brilliant, I love it. Will be binging on TV I've missed out on soon, I have Game of Thrones, Firefly, House, Community, and Castle all to be watched over the coming weeks.

You go to work and you also watch all this? Presumably you also watch a bit of footie from time to time? When do you find time to have a life? The Wire is very good, by the way, though you have to get your ear tuned in to the accents!
September 8, 201114 yr Do you think British telly hasn't been dumbed down enough? Can't imagine how low it would have to go before it would require to get more CLEVER in order to compete with reality shows! Ummm... I don't think you understood my point. The fictional series couldn't compete with "reality" television when it came to silly fluff, so to stay in the battle for viewers, they needed to offer the viewers something the "reality" television programmes couldn't offer, which is clever scripts and proper substance. They needed to go into a different direction because the fictional series couldn't beat "reality" television at their own game. They needed a plan B, which should have been plan A all along. September 8, 201114 yr In my opinion, Community and Parks and Recreation are the two funniest (American) shows out there right now. Planning on finishing these two HBO WW2 series up (The Pacific and Band of Brothers), then I have Mad Men and Breaking Bad to get through, before eventually finding a way to finally watch The Wire and Game of Thrones.

The Wire is very good, by the way, though you have to get your ear tuned in to the accents! Sounds a lot moi but 1 episode per week and some of the series are only 30 mins long + they dont usually have episodes out at the same time, like nowadays its only entourage and true blood that I watch because the other series season hasnt aired yet! Usually split them up and watch 1 episode before I go to bed!

Was thinking about supernatural as I've seen it a few times on tv actually! but I went with prison break, will give it 1 season at least and thats supposed to be the best one then its downhill from there apparently :p
September 9, 201114 yr Currently watching: True Blood - I love that show The Walking Dead - waiting for the 2nd season Queer As Folk - seen it once, had to see it again! Supernatural - not great, but I can't stop watching it The Vampire Diaries - I hate that I like it. My guilty pleasure Sons Of Anarchy - great show! Futurama - love that it is back Downton Abbey - waiting for next season Lark Rise to Candleford - waiting for the next season to air on swedish television Shows I've started to watch, but have put on hold: 24 - can't remember how far into the final season I got Dexter - great show that I intend to continue watching soon How I Met Your Mother - have just seen a couple of seasons I think Family Guy - forgot which episode I was on and never got back to seeing it The Simpsons - same as Family Guy Can't remember if there's more.
September 9, 201114 yr Being as some people have include kids programs in this, Fireball XL5 (even liked the theme tune) later done in Kareoke by sean pertwee in Love Honour and Obey Captain Scarlett. Indestructable. what was the thing with TRoy Tempest on the Submaine? remember the theme tune (Maria Aqua Maria) What about Thunderbirds, Supercar, Twizzle, Woodentops, Torchy the battery boy, Magic Roundabout, Andy Pandy, Sooty, Steptoe and Son,
September 9, 201114 yr I've recently managed to get hold of copies of the first three series of 77 Sunset Strip I was too young to remember this but I've got vague memories of it being on TV. Oh and the theme tune of course. Unfortunately I can't find the closing theme on youtube, but here's a taste of the intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6wIBVSyQ_k&feature=related And here's a clip from the second episode:
September 9, 201114 yr Kookie combing his hair - I remember that. Then there was Connie Stevens in Hawaiian Eye. A bit later, I used to like Alias Smith and Jones with the late lamented Pete Duel.
September 9, 201114 yr Lately I've developed a bit of a taste for old black & white detective/crime series'. "77 Sunset Strip" I've already mentioned, but also Peter Gunn, Checkmate, Dante (bet you don't remember that one) and in a not quite similar vein, The Untouchables. "Peter Gunn" in particular is incredibly stylish, with a cool jazz soundtrack (including the theme tune, of course) and Lola Albright, who plays Peter Gunn's girlfriend, has never looked better. Here's she is as Edie Hart singing "How High The Moon": Edited September 9, 201114 yr by Hutch
September 9, 201114 yr You're right, I don't remember Dante. But I do remember Peter Gunn - and Quatermass...
September 10, 201114 yr How about Man With A Camera, starring a young Charles Bronson? Dirt cheap from Amazon. Incidentally, "Callan: The Monochrome Years" has been on my WANTED list for some time.
September 10, 201114 yr No, I haven't seen that one, but as you are clearly a man of impeccable taste, I may well order it from Amazon (through the link at the top of the Shed End welcome page naturally)
September 10, 201114 yr Started watching Community, it's superb. One of the funniest comedies to come out of America in a long time. Oh, and this seems much more close to the title of the thread, I downloaded Firefly last night, should start watching tonight, heard wonderful things. Edited September 10, 201114 yr by Ruh Buh Juh
September 10, 201114 yr I really enjoyed Mike Bassett Football Manager. Wish he'd make another series
September 10, 201114 yr One show that I loved (well, I still love it) is "Third Rock From The Sun". Not sure if it became as successful as it deserved to be. It was really funny and had a great cast.
September 11, 201114 yr An old show which I'm watching right now is 'Whose line is it anyway?'. Brilliantly hilarious!

September 11, 201114 yr UK version or US? US. Haven't seen the UK version, how does it compare? Also, I do get the suspicion that the whole show is not improv like they claim. Edited September 11, 201114 yr by footballoholic
