loz Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Clearly a must win game and very much a game where nothing more that a 65-0 win will be seen as a good result by the media. A win and a win by a good margin has to be the objective as don't count out the chances of the title going down to goal difference. I would drop Lampard and recall Joe Cole, Cole's form has been pretty awful but so has Frank's and therefore maybe Joe is due another chance.
Phillip Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 I would drop them both, and go with one of our young midfielders who never get a chance to play. This season is over, at least with respect to winning the league.
loz Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 Nonsense. We are still in a position where wining the league is in our hands. If any manager or player was to give up now then they should be sacked on the spot.
dkw Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 i think we should drop all of them and play the under 16s, managed by hiddink over the phone from wherever the hell he is, relayed to the players by roman. everybodys happy then.

Cech or Turnbull, Jeffrey Bruma, Alex, Terry, Zhirkov, Mikel, Matic, Deco, Malouda, Drogba and Kakuta. That is my team. Changes are needed, maybe frank needs a rest. joe cole showed against Inter what is his current form. so no disrespect to the lad but he doesnt deserve to be in the line up.
L Essien Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 ------------------ Cech/ Turnbull------------------------------------------Bruma----------Alex----------- Terry-----------------Zhirkov Deco--------Mikel-------------------Matic Kakuta----------Drogba------------- Malouda. Bench: Ballack, Ferreira, Sturridge, Kalou, Joe Cole, Ricky,Borini. Anelka and Lampard leave them here in London, maybe that is what they need, to stay away from football for a couple of days. Lets see if that inspire them. At least with this team up front, we will have pace and wingers able to beat on defenders and put some decent crosses. The only one doing this at the moment is Malouda. About Midfield well at least fresh legs to move the ball quicker that the lamps and ballack at the moment. Worst that the run we are in at the moment is impossible. If we create 39 chances without a goal, at least we had improved on something, creating chances.
supernuk Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 "joe cole showed against Inter what is his current form. so no disrespect to the lad but he doesnt deserve to be in the line up". Joe cole was not in his natural posistion! He played well agianst Man City. Him kakuta or kalou have to play against P'Mouth Anekla and drogba isnt working! Id go for J.cole/Kakuta/......Drogba/anelka/..........Malouda why Anelka is being pushed out to the right handside i dont know! Carlos have the balls to drop Anelka or maybe even Drogba!

I understand and agree with you about Anelka, but why you rant DRogba, he scored 28 goals this season. Up front have to play Malouda and Drogba now on the right who knows.... kalou didnt work yesterday,Joe Cole I dont know...I wouldnt put him so that leaves Kakuta behind two strikers or on the right wing.
Gilvorak Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 We'll still see the same lineup even though it's obviously not working. Don't kid yourselves guys....

Ruh Buh Juh Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 There's absolutely no chance that we'll be playing our youngsters anytime soon, so there's no point putting players like Kakuta or Matic in there. I've already seen the script to this one, by the way. Ballack and Lampard are going to be dire, Anelka is going to be dire, Kalou will try his best but never actually do anything very constructive, Ferreira and Zhirkov will struggle at full back, Drogba will turn out to have an okay game, Malouda will be on form, the centre backs will be alright and whoever's in goal may be alright too. Woohoo.

Woohoo. If you dont take direction and comand respect, if you dont say with your actions if you dont perform you will be dropped, if you dont make changes when they are needed, then why on earth will you be managing Chelsea? then sacked him. Carlo is in a position when he has to take authority, to put some fear on some stablish players. Come on he has nothing to lose. Yesterdays performance in the second half................................, he says he rates highly some of the youngsters, for god shake give them a chance now,is not man united it will be pompey. Jose used to have that fear factor on players, they knew that if they didnt perform they would be dropped. Lets be fair here.
loz Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 Jose used to have that fear factor on players, they knew that if they didnt perform they would be dropped.Lets be fair here. Not actually true for all though. Jose had his untouchables - so much so that he named them!
L Essien Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Not actually true for all though. Jose had his untouchables - so much so that he named them! Loz, there is always a spine on the team, but right now, I cant remember anything like this before. Jose untouchables: Cech, he was brilliant, Terry same, Ricky that was the superb ricky, Lampard what a season, makelele, Drogba. Then when robben was available he used to play, then sometimes Duff sometimes Cole, the weakness was our right back. Honestly If you compare between then and now........., Here we are, with lampard badly, terry getting better now, Cech injured, ricky for two season I dont know how many games he missed, Ballack awful, slowing down the tempo all time, Joe Cole not the same player, Malouda has to be first choice..., anelka for almost three moths without a goal,Paulo ferreira badly on the right yesterday, didnt make anything going forward and guilty on the goal, he gave the ball away many times. What is the standard of our performances this season? six out of ten.
Andreas Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 We are still in the race, one slip up by utd and we are back. I wont stop believing until its impossible that we cant win it. However, I would like to see some changes in the starting XI. Here is mine, btw why do I even bother doing this since Ancelotti would never play like this. -------------Cech/Turnbull------------- --Ivan/Paulo--Alex--JT--Zhirkov------ ---------------Mikel--------------------- --Joey/Ballack---------Kakuta---------- -------------Lampard------------------- -------Drogba--------Malouda--------- Prolly go with Ballack insted of joey out on the flank to add some strenght in the midfield. And yeah, I did put Malouda upfront with drogba, seen him play in a striker position before, can't recall when, but atm he would do better then anelka and kalou.
PloKoon13 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 We don't need to play more than one defensive-minded midfielder. However it may be better if it was Ballack as Mikel may be somewhat outmuscled by the lump that is Papa Bouba Diop. That said, we are disadvantaged as Pompey have been forced to drop their donkey of a striker Dindane, and that may mean that they start with a front two of Piquionne and Kanu, i.e. a strike partnership with about as much pace as Mark Pembridge. If we don't win this game, there are no more excuses.
General Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Pompey away since they been in the prem has never been a cake walk even under TSO, I recall one nil scoreline at Fratton Park and a tough game, Avram has got them playing well, after all there is nothing much for them left to play for except a move to a top club next season, they are pacey and have players who can score goals e.g. Soton away in the FA cup, they also came back and took the pts against Hull, other times they are complete pants. Unfortunatley our away form this season is to take the lead and throw it away to bottom half clubs, either a draw or loss the result. Lets face it, its our once bullet proof away form that has all but disappeared, and has now cost us 1st place and maybe the title once again. I'd say this could be a very tricky fixture, hoping that the team spirit that saw us win at the Emirates will show up, this really is do or die for our title chances. Making wholesale changes now although it seems a very emotional thing to do wont get us far, I agree Anelka doesnt work in the current formation so to the bench with him, although dont forget his assist on Sunday. Maybe 1 or 2 changes but even then the options are severly limited - and if after 65 mins no joy then bring on 2 or 3 subs all we have available are the likes of Sturridge, Kakuta, Matic etc. no more striker on in the 90th please, that was just a waste. Come on Chelsea, keep the faith, if we win on Weds and then next month do the mancs at OT we are stil in with a shout.
aliboy66 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Does it matter who he picks if we really can't beat Portsmouth with whoever plays then all i can say is its the end of the world as we know it? :)
clubhappy Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) A win and were a point behind UTD, what motivation do the players need and i am absolutely NOT giving up on the title but the team is suffering from a huge loss in confidence and lacking leadership. We are also struggling to recover from a defeat , we are not creating any chances and we just look less than ordinary. United & Arsenal have hit peak form, we've gone the other way . Now Ivanovic is out for a month and we've no first choice starting back four. Maybe we can force Gary Locke out of retirement for this one game. I want to see Sturridge start with Drogs, i understand Anelka has been out of position but his passing is appauling and his body language recently suggests he couldn't be arsed. Im hoping Carlo proves a lot of non believers wrong[ me included] , and pulls a memorable performance out of the bag . Edited March 23, 2010 by clubhappy
mad_mac Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 It's Pompey, I just hope that this isn't another manager coming back to haunt us!
Zola Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 We need to start this match at 500mph and vent furious revenge on the whole league and crtics, via Pompey.
Chelsea FC Champions Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Cech/Turnbull Paulo Terry Alex Zhirkov Joe Cole Mikel Ballack Malouda Drogba Sturridge Subs: Turnbull/Cech Bruma Deco Lamps Kalou Anelka Borini
Jack Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Ok so much for all the doom and gloom - the fightback starts here! We (the fans, the players, the management) must be positive. Statistically there is everything to play for, so while that's the case the guys who got us into this situation have to be given the chance to get us out of it. Pompey are not the worst team in the league and you have to admire them just for turning up every week! The fans (including the w**ker with the bell!) will be behind them 100% as per usual and we'll have to give it our best to win the 3 points. We're now in the position of underdogs and will almost certainly go to Old T playing catch-up, but it is all ifs and buts. The beauty of it all is we now aren't expected to do anything and the mentality is to take one game at a time, rest, and go again. I expect the personnel to be roughly the same mainly due to the fact there are no options - Ballack is injured so we have Mikel, Lampard and deco as out and out midfielders, kalou, drogba, anelka and malouda up front, cole falls into both camps and the back 4 are the last 4 available plus carvalho - but it's the attitude I want to see change. Be ruthless, be clinical, be hungry and lay down a marker. I predict 3-0 - Lampard, Drogba and Anelka in that order!
