Rafael Van Der Vaart

CHELSEA are closing in on Rafael van der Vaart.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti has been tracking Real Madrid's £10m Dutch playmaker for several months.

Talks with the representatives of the player have already begun about a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Ancelotti is keen to play Van der Vaart, 27, in his diamond midfield behind the two strikers.

The Dutch ace is widely regarded as one of the most creative players in Europe but has been frozen out at Real.

Chelsea are keen to finalise a deal before the World Cup finals as they fear Van der Vaart's price will rocket if he does well.

With Deco destined to go home to Brazil next season, Ancelotti wants a reliable ball player to supply his strikers.

For 10 mill pounds, great bussines, and a different kind of midfield player that the ones we have.

Technically he is excellent, he also scores goals. For that prize, great signing, if we get him.

27 years of age, not bad,in the last year and a half at madrid, he didnt play a lot, so I believe he will want to prove

a point at the next club.

Bear in mind...the story is from the Sun....so chances are it has no factual base at all.....

There are better options, the likes of Silva etc...but not a bad player for a decent price...certainly adds something to the team.

Silva, well I am becoming to accept the reality, just go to marca.com and have a look at the headlines, the madridistas ( madrid fans) want Silva at madrid, so we are gonna face a real competition from madrid.

In an survey by sigma.com, which player would you like to see at madrid? 66% answer David Silva, so is gonna be very difficult.

At 10 million it would be a good bit of business. He cant be happy at Madrid not playing so i wouldnt be suprised if something did happy. The only concern for me is if we got him would we go back to the dreaded diamond?

Like others, I agree that it would be great, especially at 10 million. But I very much doubt that its true.

Off subject but what was wrong with quaresma..he was on loan that i know but why didnt he get in first team that much...

His career has completely gone off the rails since he came to Inter. He used to be the main offensive threat on Porto and now I think he barely gets a sniff of playing time.

Van der Vaart?? No... He isn't world class midlefield at all... He is weak... We don't need him...

How many times is this guy gonna prove people wrong in his career? Everyone said he wasnt ready for a big club, and then he moves to Spanish Circus FC and scores a hat full of goals before the politics of that club, and his wife's illness sideline him.

He was supposed to be an afterthought this year becuase they spent 65m euros on Kaka. Instead he is starting most games, playing almost every week, and is part of their most successful midfield quartet with Alonso, Guti and Granero. I will say that again. This year he has 3 fewer appearances that frigging Kaka the player that cost 7 times more, and was their first new starlet.

The argument that "he isnt world class" has also been made many times about a compatriot of his, Wesley Sneijder. Look at what that no talent scrub did against us a few weeks ago. Do you not think we could use that kind of creativity and potency behind our forwards? Considering we have had almost none of that originating from midfield this year? Thats the kind of ability van der Vaart possesses, maybe with a bit more goal scoring ability from open play, and a bit less passing and fk ability. But this lad and his versatility in attack would be EXACTLY whats called for right now.

That said, we will probably never get him, but its annoying hearing the same retorts over and over.

i hate him :@

have better opitons than him

This is more reason to buy him, imo. Maybe you can wish injury on him too

I've said this in the past, i agree with you Westway. There are a couple of people on this forum just post high profile names and say yup he's amazing and when someone posts someone like VDV and then they he's rubbish! Im sure everyone wants a big name at the club but we're not that circus in madrid and thank god we will never be.

Just because he is not in the showbiz catergory of Ribery, Ronaldo, Kaka and Messi and co doesn't mean he's a bad player. I'd take Van der vaart in a heartbeat, he's is vastly underated and would refresh our midfielder greatly. Now that Hamsik is out of the question i believe he is our best option when regarding the amount we will pay and the quality of the player.

Didn't Real get him for dirt cheap when they bought him?
