Afternoon matches

England v. Slovenia

USA v. Algeria

Evening matches

Germany v. Ghana

Australia v. Serbia

Let's hope there is no significance that today is the 13th.

If results go against them, both Germany and England could find themselves joining France on the plane home.

Luckily, I have been assured by Mr Mike Parry that this won't happen to England and I can now watch the match without worrying!

(Don't forget there is a separate thread for discussion on the England v. Slovenia match)

I'll have an easier time today. I know for sure which games I'll be focusing on.

First off it's England against Slovenia. Since Sweden didn't make it to this World Cup I've been hoping to see England have a good one. Now I hope they can get together and pull this off. I want England in the next round!

Tonight I'll be watching Germany against Ghana. That should be a very interesting one. I'm hoping Germany will do well, but Ghana has played really well so far, even without Essien. It'll be a tought game tonight. In a way I would like to see both teams advancing, but at the same time I want Serbia to do the same. And since I doubt Serbia will fail to beat Australia it'll be down to Germany or Ghana to join them in the next round. And between those two I have to pick Germany.

I would be happy with a 8-0 victory to Australia :JC_doubleup:

The bloody country is in disarray, the PM is facing a leadership challenge and we have to win to go through to the second round all on the same night. Thank God for Red Bull.

I hope to see Joey in the first squad...

He isn't. But lets hope he gets a run. Capello likely to leave him on the bench now just to show he's the boss. England 3-1 for me, with JT getting a goal and going absolutely nuts.

TOP OF THE GROUP!!!!!!!!

USA showed that you should always fight until the end. I would've liked to see Slovenia in the last 16, although I've got nothing against England or USA either.

Should bloody well think so too, inconsiderate sods.

Well. Hardly convincing for the England boys, but, qualification is qualification.

Now for a draw in the Germany-Ghana game to get us an easier game on sunday. Come on you Ghana!

Oh, and bloody well played JT. Didn't see anyone else throwing their head at point blank shots?

Maybe some journo will say he was trying to get himself injured to get back on Capello... :penqUIn:

Wow, USA takes the group for the first time since 1930 Uruguay! Dempsey, Donovan, Altidore, DeMerit and Howard were all immense. Best game I've ever seen from Bradley, congrats on your timing son. Tough luck to Slovenia, going from 1st to 3rd. :flush: Screw Algeria, bunch of second tier pseudo-Frenchmen. And now it's time for Germany, Ghana and Serbia to figure our next matchups.

To you mad dogs and Englishmen, sorry we had to nick your crumpet. B)

Pretty sure my boss knows I was watching my boys this morning after screaming at the top of my lungs when Donovan slotted that goal home.

Given USA's come back against Slovenia, the fact that they had a perfectly good winner chopped off in that game and also had a goal disallowed today which was borderline on/offside I definitely think they deserve to win the group. Watching Germany vs Ghana just now and I would say that whoever England and the USA get they will need to raise their game again. Not saying either of them look great, just they look a lot better than the standard of Slovenia and Algeria.

Serbia are down 2-0 against the mighty Australians. Very surprising result this - I expected the Serbs to go a long way in the tournament with the players they have. And their coach isn't bad either! Shows you how much I know.

I agree. Both Ghana and Germany look good. Ghana actually looks better in attack but just can't make that last pass and finish. Germany is very organized and strong. They don't give up much. Both teams will be tough.

Serbia was one goal away from advancing, bit of an ovrebo moment when cahill handballed it inside of the box in extra time and nothing was given!

Was going absolutely nuts about halfway through the second half. Good result for us. Harsh on Serbia though. Just read on the BBC that one of Uruguay, United States, South Korea and Ghana, will be through to the semi finals. One of those teams could be England, if Rooney had have scored. It is his miss that could stop England from making it through to the semi-finals.
