Ian Hutchinson 1948-2002

Featured Replies

Hutch was one of my all-time favourite Chelsea players, a great striker and brave as f*ck. I'm sure he'll be enjoying a pint with Ossie while he watches the match today - RIP Hutch, Chelsea legend!

I said a similar thing in the Blackpool match thread.

As did this lad on 606

From PloKoon13 on 606: "Can we get a mention for the late, great Ian Hutchinson, who died eight years ago today? He was a legend of a striker, who played for Chelsea, winning the FA Cup and Cup Winners' Cup before having his career and life tragically ended prematurely. RIP Hutch - what a legend."

never mind your Rory Delaps, Ian Hutchinson was the original and the greatest long throw expert. here's his most famous throw-in, the one that led to Dave Webb's winner in the 1970 FA Cup Final replay:

and here he is again, this time as a goalscorer, scoring two of the goals (Ossie getting the other one) in the 3-0 win over Birmingham in the 1969-70 FA Cup run:

I consider myself really fortunate to have seen Ian play. A true Chelsea legend and, as Bluebeard says, a very courageous player.

RIP Hutch and thanks.

RIP Hutch.

One of my favourite Chelsea players ever. Fantastic team player, brilliant throw and the bravest player I've ever seen.

Love you and remember you with great affection Hutch

Rest in peace Hutch, one of my favourite Chelsea players who had ability bravery and also suffered a broken leg for the cause..nice win today would be great to think he could have been watching it on his 65 inch plasma in the sky.

Always sad news to see a legend go, although I never had to chance to see him play! But the videos are reminder that Chelseas greatness don't only come from the money Roman poured in and the newer generation.

On the side note, Hutch, who was taking that throw in the video you posted, the one against Leeds?

that would be the man himself, Ian Hutchinson - the original and greatest long throw specialist.
