ws6blue Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 you can forget the cup final and the last home game..........................villa away is different prospect, although good news that GH in charge this time no milner and no agbonlahor (don't think he's fit) but they always pose a threat down the wings & albrighton altho new is decent quick and tricky - so worry for me is right back if ivan in the middle cos paulo not quite the player he was - hopefully carlo will give him some cover also hope lamps, kalou & boss come back into the squad and maybe they'll still have a hangover from last season a win would be very decent result COYB
Bobbywoodhogan Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 A few things about this fixture 1. we have a terrible record at Villa 2. They are good in the air and Alex n now maybe JT are out which either means Bruma or (please no) Paulo at CB alongside Iva So I think a draw would be a great result just hope Drogba and co are up for this cause this was one of the fixtures last season (even thought scored) Didier disappeared in.
The Moos Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Yeah, this is one of the games when I don't feel comfortable even when we have a full squad. Villa is a good team and at home they will be hard to beat. And without Alex and JT my hopes are not very high. Hopefully we'll have Lamps back so we'll have something to be cheerful about.
Bobbywoodhogan Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 We last won at Villa two seasons ago and I think we only won that game because we had to. I personally think we'll get beat especially without JT and Alex at CB.
Chippy Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I think Paulo will start at RB and Ivan and Bruma/JT with Ash I can't see Villa beating us and think Mikel will have to have a big input defensively to make sure of that, we have a better team, a better manager more impetus and more reason to win. I hope Bosingwa will get twenty minutes at the end, Frank maybe the last half hour and would like to see Kalou come on late as well, I think we'll take the points.
mad_mac Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Certainly true that this game is falling at a very oppotune time for Villa. If we are missing Kalou, Lampard, Alex, and Terry for this match then we are really stretching the first team, and then subsequently relying on very inexperienced players to fill in the rest of our substitutions. Add all this to our poor record at Villa park, and you've got a very tough test
Scooby Blue Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) I expect JT to be fit. It's a tough place to go and I'd be more than happy with a point. Still early days so no need to be too alarmed if we come away with nothing. The crunch fixtures during December scare me to death though. It's vitally important we have a healthy lead by that point. Maverick Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 The new kid in Villa - Albrighton will be a handful for our RB which currently looks to be Ferreira/ Bruma or maybe even Bosingwa. Given our track record at Villa park I'd be glad if we walked away with a draw. A win would be an absolute bonus.
clubhappy Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 First of all i just want to say , thank christ the Premiership is back, bored af f**k all weekend. Not our favourite place recently for results , but UTD play West brom at home so we have to NOT lose.

Poor past record against this team is no reason not to get a result this time. One worry is Malouda who will have done quite a bit of international duty. I guess Ivan, Ashley and one or two others will also have played midweek although I didn't check. This is one of those times when we might benefit from having the Africans in the team.

I think some might say that we benefit from having African's in the team EVERY WEEK - certainly Drogs and Essien anyway!! (But I do know what you were getting at).
sizzler85 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 We have another round of Euro qualifiers tomo and let us seriously hope chelsea players don't get injured . Most crucial of them is Ivanovic . With Alex injured , Terry doubtful , We cannot afford to lose Ivan now . He certainly needs to be completely fit . Less worries about other players because Drog , Anelka , Essien are not playing and Lamps , Kalou etc., are going to be fit again . It is funny to think that how our most important player Lampard has featured less in the discussions . How well we would like him to have him back in the starting line up ! Mr.Fitness Frank is going to be back , yay !!!
Mikstaw Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 any news on Lampard? I read he's fit, but I think he will start on the bench.

I guess some of the credit should go to Essien and Mikel who have stepped up big time in the absence of Lampard. Ramires seems to be finding his feet and looks to be a good addition to the midfield.
MightyMinto Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Essien has been superb this season and has clearly benefited from not playing for Ghana. I hope Carlo gives McEachran some more PL pitch time as we've got an absolute gem there.
Guest Sindre Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Terry is probably out. Alex and Bruma(injured in training today. Few weeks off) also out. Which leaves us with one centreback left. We might actually see Ferreira up against Young and Heskey through the middle..Lord help us all.
Chippy Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 ------------Cech--------------- Essien..Ivan--Ferreira--Ash -----------Mikel----------------- Ramires-------Yuri/Frank Anelka..Drogba--Malouda I wonder if this could be a possibility?
Eggy McMuffin Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Chalobah? Baptism of fire. Van Aanholt maybe?
Guest Sindre Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Chalobah? Baptism of fire. Van Aanholt maybe? I would actually prefer Chalobah to Ferreira if that was the choice. We could tuck Essien in there(never been to impressed with him in defence though) but then we have a problem in midfield(if Lampard misses out that is). Bosingwa is a possibility at right-back but he can`t be ready yet can he?
ozboy Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 At least the Serbia match with Italy was abandoned so Ivanovic should still be fit. Defence is a worry. Just look at what happened to manu when ferdinand was out. Alex seems a little injury prone. I'd probably rather have bossy in the centre than paulo. Paulo is pretty good at full back but looks really lost in the centre. Another possibility is essien in the centre with Ivanovic despite the lack of height. The trouble with midfielders there though is the tendency to give away a penalty through a rash tackle. Is Terry definitely out?

HazardsLeftPeg Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Bruma's out too? Omg, its like all our pre-season fears about lack of defensive depth have been confirmed. ------------Cech--------------- Essien..Ivan--Ferreira--Ash -----------Mikel----------------- Ramires-------Yuri/Frank Anelka..Drogba--Malouda I wonder if this could be a possibility? That formation does look a possibility(worryingly) although with Essien in the centre.
The Moos Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Ferreira as CB?! If we manage to win this one, it's going to be huge.
Barry Bridges Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Ferreira as CB?! If we manage to win this one, it's going to be huge. I'd rather switch Cole into CB and Zhirkov swap into LB with Ivan at CB and Ferreira at RB. We might lose the dynamics of Cole in the attack, but he will make us all feel much more secure at CB than Paulo.....Plus when is the last time we had a CB as quick as Cole?
